I've been gone from the boards a while. In that time, I've discovered a LOT of artists that I'm in love with, that aren't very mainstream. Some of you may remember that I use to do this on the old R&R boards hehe. But anyway, I'm gonna list some artists and you just tell me if you've heard of them. I'll even put a song or two next to them so you can possibly download it and fall in love with them too :)
Emm Gryner - "Acid", "Lonestar" Leona Naess - "Calling", "Charm Attack" Lisa Germano - "Stars," "Lullaby for Liquid Pig" Over The Rhine - "Poughkeepsie," "Show Me" Sister Seven - "The Only Thing that's Real" Eisley - "The Winter Song", "Tree Tops" Scout - " Day Before Yesterday" Ednaswap - "Torn" Joan Jones - "Everyday Down" Heather Nova - "London Rain," "Winterblue" Bic Runga - "Sway", "Hey" Tracy Bonham - "Mother Mother" "Shark Can't Sleep" Dana Glover - "Rain" Joss Stone - "Fell In Love With A Boy" Lennon Murphy - "My Beautiful" Plumb - "Real", "God-Shaped Hole"

Out of that list, I'm familiar with Heather Nova, Dana Glover, and Plumb.

I've heard of Leona Naess, Bic Runga, Heather Nova, Tracy Bonham, Dana Glover, Plumb and Joss Stone.
I own Heather Nova's album with "London Rain" on it. I can't remember the name of it right now. "Heart And Shoulder" and "Paper Cup" are both great.
Bic Runga's "Sway" is great, but I haven't heard anything else from her.

Whoops, totally forgot to list "Thinking Over" under Dana Glover. That's a great song. I think "Thinking Over" and "Real" came out when you were here. I'm not sure though. But I remember when I first came to the boards "Thinking Over" was out and you were here!

I've heard of Dana Glover and Lennon. "My Beautiful" is a pretty good song. I also liked her song from 2001 which I think was called "Hood of Your Car" or something like that. I remember MTV profiled her in their "You hear it first" segment in '01.

The Heather Nova album with "London Rain" was Siren. It's the only album of her's I own, except Oyster which I downloaded. She has catchy songs, but she's not easy to get into. Her voice is different, but it can be really pretty. I think it sounds like she's holding her breath and trying to sing.
Yeah, I was here when "Real" and "Thinking Over" came out, I think :)
The Lennon song you're talking about, I think, is "Brake of Your Car." I remember seeing her on the Back To New York season of the Real World.

Artists I've heard a song from: Sister Seven - I remember "Know What You Mean" from '98... it was pretty good. Dana Glover - "Thinking Over" was a top 30 hit on my chart last year Joss Stone - heard "Fell In Love With A Boy" once Plumb - "Free" was a top 20 hit for me last year, and "Real" hit top 40
Artists who I've heard of, but never heard a song from: Emm Gryner Leona Naess Over The Rhine Eisley Ednaswap Heather Nova Bic Runga Tracy Bonham
Artists I've never heard of: Lisa Germano Scout Joan Jones Lennon Murphy

I know Emm Gryner. She had two Top 15 hits on my chart last year and I saw her in concert with Holly McNarland too. I have her 'Asianblue' CD that was released in late 2002.
I downloaded some Leona Naess at the recommendation of someone in the summer of 2002 during the release of her 'Mexico' CD. I downloaded 'Mexico' and the single 'I Tried To Rock You But You Only Roll', which made my chart. Both are great songs. I'm probably dumb for never have gotton the album yet.
Heather Nova is probably the most well known on this list. I would assume. 'London Rain' and 'Heart And Shoulder' were both radio hits in Canada and her followup CD had 'Virus Of The Mind' and that song from Serendipity written by Bryan Adams that both got Canadian airplay.
I LOVE 'Mother Mother'! I got Tracy Bonham's first CD. Was 'Sharks Can't Sleep' a single? I know 'The One' was the followup for 'Mother Mother'.
Dana Glover's 'Thinking Over' made my chart last year and 'Rain' briefly made my Top 100.
That's all I know musically. I heard of some of the others by name.

I've heard of Heather Nova, Dana Glover, Joss Stone, and Plumb. I'm most familiar with Heather Nova, my station had a song from her in moderate rotation in the spring of 2002, I think the song was called "Virus of the Mind" It was a really good song, too bad it didn't do anything, it sounded like a hit!

I've only heard of Bic Runga's "Sway". I thought it was "Stay".
It was played at a very apt moment during the first American Pie movie.

Leona Naess - "Calling", "Charm Attack" Joss Stone - "Fell In Love With A Boy" Plumb - "Real", "God-Shaped Hole" I've seen Leona on VH1. The Joss Stone song is posted on this board. "Real" made the Hot Adult Contemporary chart. So did Dana Glover.

The ones I've heard:
Yeah. "Charm Attack" is pretty good, but overall she's nothing special.
Now she is something special... but that's one scary CD cover.
They had a single "Know What You Mean" a few years back which was not bad but pretty generic pop rock.
You only just discovered her? :o
see above
Lol... this song is so on crack & sounds like something she put together in about 15 minutes. Nonetheless, I don't hate it.
'tis a shame that this is the only song by her anyone seems to know. Check out "Super Duper Love." Extra cheezy but it highlights her voice well.
Haven't heard this one, but I've heard some other stuff by her and she's damn good. One song is coming to mind but I don't quite remember the title, something like "Nothing on Me" or "Nothing for Me," I don't remember. If you like her, you'll probably also like Joydrop.
She's good. Also check out "Damaged."

I have only heard of Plumb. I liked the song of theirs that was used in the movie 'Drive Me Crazy'.
