If you were born 10 years earlier, what artists do you think would have been your favorites in that time? and if you were 10 years older today, would you like the artists you like today or would you hate them? If i was born in 1973, i would've been around 17 when Mariah Carey came out, and i think she would've been the one i would've been obsessed with. I totally would've been a Mariah lamb if i was born 10 years earlier. But because of my age, i really can't recall anything from her career before "Hero" (even though of course now i know all of her songs before that) so that sort of prevented me from becomming a big MC fan since she was already established. I also would've liked Whitney, Madonna, and Janet a lot more, and i probably would've had a love/hate thing with Madonna (like how i have one now with Britney). And if i was 10 years older today, i would've totally hated Christina, just because i would've been a Mariah Lamb. I probably would've enjoyed Christina's music but i probably would criticize her a lot more and say stuff like "Back in the day, Mariah was much better" But whatever, i am glad i grew up with Christina and Co, because i do prefer that. But it was just a fun thought, how about you guys?

If I was born 10 years earlier, I would have been a teenager in the 80's. Hence, I don't think I'd even be a music fan because I hate music from that decade for the most part... with some excpetions (mostly artists like Janet/Bon Jovi/Madonna who went on to have post-80s success).

I would have grown up to Styx, Kansas, Boston, The Eagles and Peter Frampton instead of Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, and Bryan Adams.
I don't think my taste would be too different from what it is now.

I might have been a big fan of Michael Jackson. Today, I simply can't identify with his music - even the 80s stuff - at all. The only things that come to mind when you say "MJ" to me are (1) A dangling baby and (2) The joke "America is the only country in the world where a poor black boy can grow up to become a rich white woman."

I probably would have been a big fan of Michael Jackson. Maybe I would have liked Paula Abdul and Madonna a lot too.
Then I would have followed Mariah from the beginning, but I probably would have hated all her slower songs. ;) "Those songs are boring!"

I would have loved disco even more than I do now, AND I would have been into even more 80's music than I am now.
And I love both, so that's kinda scary.
I also would have been a really bad dresser...wait, nevermind, I did that...

If I were born ten years later I would've caught the end of Disco and the beginning of the 80's. I would've loved to have grown up in that period if not just for the fact that it would make my chart look more real with all the history I would have.

If I was born in '73, I would have grow up in the '80s (scary thought!) Had I grown up then, I probably would have been really into acts like Guns'N'Roses, Beastie Boys, Bon Jovi, Prince, U2, and Metallica during their peak years. I would have liked Whitney Houston's music also. Interestingly, I enjoy music from all those artists even though I was born in '83.

I would've been into The Who, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Blackfoot, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper on and on and on, I'll bore you all to death.
I really like all those artists now though, so it is kind of a moot point. I think it is more about what I maybe WOULDN'T like now if I had been born 10 years earlier.

I would have been into :
The Motown era
The Beatles
Jimi Hendrix
Janis Joplin
Vanilla Fudge
Some Disco
Now I'd probably listening to a classic rock station instead of the 80s station.
MTV would now be a huge joke for me
Mourning over the death of great legends in rock that recently passed

I got into music when I was 10 in 1994 so if I were 10 years older, 1984 would have been my first musical year, thus I'd probably be a Van Halen fan and stuff. I probably wouldn't have been a fan of pop groups like Ace Of Base or Milli Vanilli or anything like that since my tastes have matured as the years went by so by 1990 or 1991, I'd probably be just on the level with singers like Paula Abdul, who I'd like enough to listen and sing along with her but not love her. Assuming I'd follow the same general lines with a 10 year difference, I probably wouldn't be able to listen to pop radio at all in 2003 (my prediction for 2013), not because of dispization but because of disinterest.

Good topic. I would have been born in 1977, which would've given me slightly different music tastes. That was the peak of punk, which I think would have been cool.
As for listening to alternative at the time, it would have been possible because in the late 80s my family was in Tulsa, where there was an alternative station on the dial, though it went away as urban and now is active rock. I would also find new music through MTV's 120 Minutes show, which debuted in 1989. I think that I'd be a huge Depeche Mode fan, based on my musical tastes. In fact, I bet they'd be my favorite, and I'd probably also like the grunge bands when they broke through. But I'd *really* like the goth rock that was dominant at the time. I think that by 1994, by being bored by Collective Soul and Candlebox, I would've started listening to less mainstream music, considering I'd start realizing what there was in the underground. I wonder what I'd still like today.

I'd probably enjoy Paula Abdul, Belinda Carlisle, and Tiffany as a pre-teen. But as I evolved into more of a teen, I'd probably get into Sheryl Crow, Lisa Loeb, and Alanis. Which I did get into when I was a pre-teen.

Assuming the only difference in me is my birthdate, I would've been born in 1976. I would have been heavy into grunge and probably would've, at the least, try to kill myself in April '94 after Kurt Cobain's suicide like all those other kids because I'm messed up as it is, and ten years earlier I would've been a train wreck.

If I were born in 1956, I would be into Jackie Wilson, early Isley Brothers, of course Elvis, the start of the Motown and Stax/Volt eras (yeah, southern soul) and blue-eyed soul. I guess I would've been a great "boss jock" at 15 digesting all this in. If I were born in '76, I would have been heavy into 80s music of any genre, and I'd chill out listening to smooth jazz at home and nothing else. Wishful thinking but as Eddie Money puts it; "I wanna go back and do it all over/but I can't go back, no-no."

I would have been more into the 80's new wave and freestyle. A good number of the songs I like are older than I am, but I love em just the same.
It would have been better so I could have bought a lot of the songs I liked as singles! I have spent so much time and money tracking down some of my fave classics.

I would have been 19 in 1994. I'd be into Nirvana, Sound Garden, Hootie with a splash of Mariah and Pearl Jam

Interesting topic!
I would have been born in late 1974, so I probably would have been more into disco, and definitely into the 80's music.
I would have been 16 when Mariah came out and I'm pretty sure I'd love her.
My earliest memory of Mariah is "One Sweet Day" and "Always Be My Baby"...vaguely "Fantasy"...so if I was older I'd have known her from the beginning.
I'd be into Michael Jackson's music for sure too.

Born in 1971, I think I would have been a huge fan of the New Wave 80's. I can't really get into older songs by the likes of Duran Duran and Erasure, but I do like the 90's and newer stuff they've come out with. If I had been born earlier and actually watched those older songs climb up the charts, I think I would have really enjoyed them.
