Ok I was wondering how receptive you think radio will be to alanis's new album. The first single Everything is supposed to be released on February 16th, so its not long to go. The song is extremely beautiful, but is very very adult contemporary going by the short clip available. Probably the most AC song she has ever released. I think this move is deliberate on Mavericks part, because of the past success she has had on that format, but I don't think most of her fans are part of that format. So why they would chose such a single, I find odd. Maybe Pop radio will accept it, maybe it will be huge, but who knows. I don't think so.
Hands Clean was the perfect pop song in many ways, yet it barely cracked the top 20 at pop, but went straight to number 1 at Hot AC.
Another odd thing is, that the album is actually very very different to the first single. There are many songs on their that seem very Pop friendly. Eight Easy Steps for example, most people really like this song. Thise could have been a big hit at Pop. But then again maybe Maverick are playing it safe. Maybe they're waiting for the second single to go for Pop radio.
What do you guys think?

"Hands Clean" is actually probably my favorite Alanis single now.
I'm going to say, "Everything" will probably peak in the 40's at CHR/Pop based on hype alone. It may break the Hot AC Top 20 around #18.

I haven't heard the whole thing of "Everything." Is there anywhere I am able too? It looks like her singles will be based off how her first single does.

Oh and if your from different countries, let us know how you think she'll perform over there.
Im from Oz, and I think Everything should break the top 20 here. Hopefully radio doesnt ignore this like they did Precious Illusions. Hands Clean actually reached #1 in airplay here for a few weeks.

Several fans out there have the whole song, hell they have the whole album, yet they wont even share this one with us.

I doubt it. Alanis isn't the in thing right now and I doubt she's changed much compared to the last CDs (like Jewel or No Doubt, for example) so unless it's a REAL fluke, radio won't accept this CD much.
Canada however might!

If Dido and Sheryl Crow can make it to top 30 on the CHR/Pop chart, I don't see why Alanis will not be able to... but of course, you have Sarah McLachlan who has been hovering around the 40/50 borderline...

Actually "Hands Clean" peaked at #3 on Hot AC, but anyway, I do believe Alanis still has the capability to chart. "Under Rug Swept" was obviously a mega-flop that it couldn't even move a million copies despite debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200, but she remains a mega-recurrent staple on Hot AC and that will benefit her. As for CHR/Pop, I think Top 30 is as far as she can go. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Not with Everything she will not be. That seems to be asking for a flop at least on pop. Hot Ac will probably pick up on it.

I don't think URS was a flop. It's sold between 3-4 million copies worlwide. Thats great considering Hands Clean was released, then Maverick wiaited somthing like six months before releasing the second single Precious Illusions. Any momentum the album had was almost dead by then, and their effort was really half arsed. After that they just gave up on the record.
Yet with Madonna they keep on wasting their time and releasing singles that obviously are going to do absoulutely nothing, and even Michelle Branch is getting a third single release.
Alanis is still played hugely on radio in countries like Italy and those in Latin America.
However, I am starting to worry at the choice of Everything as a single, because their are several other strong alternatives on the album.

No. You are seeing why it can really suck to have such enormous success on your first album. Still, it's great to have that success anyway, but it can kill the lengthy career.
She was the "hot" thing back then, the Avril Lavigne of her time if you will. That means she barely gets the time of day now.

I rarely hear any of Alanis' old songs on my HotAC station and it leans alternative rather than pop.
I like Alanis; however, I felt Hands Clean was he weakest single to date.
What countries is she big in except for Canada and US? Selling 4 million copies of her last album worldwide seems high. She only sold about 800,000-900,000 in the US which I think is pretty good for a veteran artist.

Hands Clean was a pop song masterpiece and did very very well worldwide considering thats shes not as big as she used to be. I think it's her best single to date, and i can listen to it over and over, and its still sounds great.
3-4 Million copies is realistic considering shes huge in many latin American countries, african countries and some european countries.

I doubt that Alanis will get very much attention from the radio with "Everything", I think there were better options on the album. Doesn't Madonna own Maverick, or co-own it at least? That's what I read. Because if she does, she can pick who gets the funding and attention. Maybe she thinks Michelle Branch is more marketable and likely for higher success than Alanis is, after all, Under Rug Swept wasn't a huge hit as everyone hoped it would be. Maybe Maverick just gave up on her when they knew that URS wouldn't be another JLP.

Really though, Maverick couldn't have been stupid enough to think that Alanis would have another JLP, especially with an album like URS. URS and JLP are totally different albums. That's why I like Alanis, her sound changes with each album and each new album has a different vibe and feel. JLP was a one time thing. It was written when Alanis was at a point her life where she isn't anymore, and won't be ever again. It's just a fact that people are going to have to accept. If pop radio is acceptive of her new album, that's great. But it's not going to stop Alanis from making music, which is all her fans care about.
