It seems that lately there is a trend that once the song goes to #1, the second single goes for adds at the same time. I much prefer this because I'm not getting incredibly sick of a song while it stays at #1 for 3 months.
Jessica Simpson and Usher have both done this.

And Outkast, or did "The Way You Move" even go for adds? It likes like "Roses" is going for adds even though there are still 2 songs in the top 10!

I think it hurts the songs chances of having a lot of recurrent airplay and in Jessica's case spending more time @ #1.

I think it hurts the songs chances of having a lot of recurrent airplay and in Jessica's case spending more time @ #1. If everybody did it, however, it wouldn't matter much. Recurrent airplay is pretty much just a way for a song to annoy you more than it did while it was a current.

And Outkast, or did "The Way You Move" even go for adds? "Hey Ya" and "The Way You Move" were released to different formats at the same time. It's different than what Jessica Simpson and Usher did.

Crazy In Love/Baby Boy is another perfect example of this method. It didn't hurt either of the songs performances. I like the idea of singles being rushed in general. I don't like it when artists take 4 or 5 months to release the next single. I think every 12 to 14 weeks a new single should be released all the way through the 4th single.
The only recent artist who even comes close to doing this is Avril Lavigne with her first 3 singles.
Complicated-Entered the charts on 5/31/02 Sk8er Boi-13 weeks later on 8/30/02 I'm With You-13 weeks later on 11/29/02
And then there is Losing Grip-18 weeks later. Perhaps waiting too long between singles results in worse chart performances.

I love this method. Sure beats the #1 for 10 weeks method.
