Albums that aside from the hit singles are complete filler. Would you rather have just the hit singles and no filler or would you rather have alot of filler songs on an album in addition to the hit singles.

I'd rather have a good album. Ditto. If an artist can't come up with more than a few good songs, they should release commercial singles only.

I've always said give me 10 excellent songs instead of 2 excellent songs, 6 okay songs and 6 filler songs.
If you don't have better material, release on EP, or just a single.
Luckily, I think a lot of the more recent stuff, at least from the Alternative and Rock artists has been pretty good.

Everyone's view of a filler song is different. I would rather have the three singles without all the songs I don't like it if it was cheaper obviously.

If an artist can't come up with more than a few good songs, they should release commercial singles only. Or they can release an EP. It's cheaper than buying a bunch of commerical singles. Sam Roberts did this (though three of the songs appeared on his subsequent LP), and I think David Lee Roth did too.

The record companies stopped making singles because they wanted album sales. Therefore, I wouldn't expect records companies to want artists who only wanted to make singles and EPs.

If the CD price is gonna be the same no matter how many songs there are, then I say give me the filler along with the good stuff.
It's more for your money, even if it's not all of the same quality. You may even end up liking the other stuff, even if not as much. I know I rarely end up skipping songs on any album I buy.

i feel like this question is kinda odd, like "do you want an album with 3 good songs and nothing else, or an album with 3 good songs and some crap?" i mean if it costs the same may as well get the filler. altho one man's filler is another man's hit, as they say but like josh said, "rather have a good album" which doesn't always have hits.

I think it all depends on what a person sees as filler and how many songs on an album a person sees as filler. I usually like most songs, some I have to listen to a couple of times to like, but they catch on. If the price was right, like $3.99 or $4.99 for three hit tracks, then I'd buy it. When I liked Pop, a lot of the albums were packed with filler, it was ridiculous, two albums that especially come to mind when I think of filler are Britney's first two albums. So yeah, I'd take the few good tracks over the few good tracks and filler any day.

I don't know if this is really a good question. I mean, for the most part, most people will usually like the singles and consider album tracks as filler so if you buy a CD, you should buy it with the intention and expectation that you'll like the entire album. Plus, I'm sure every CD out there has at least one person (besides the artists involve) that will like every track on the disc so what may be filler to some, are gems to others. I for one don't consider Monica's 'The Boy Is Mine' CD, for example, to be anything special and pretty much am only a fan of the songs that were released.
