I'm in need of a new band to love. Can only listen to my MB20 and Maroon 5 CD's so many times. Any suggestions? Now, don't get too crazy on me. Like good voices and lyrics.

Johnny Marr and the Healers are pretty good. Johnny Marr was the guitarist for the Smiths, but his band puts out totally different music than that. Very smooth mellow music that works.
And, as I would recommend this to all people, forget what you've heard about them and check out Def Leppard's Slang album.
Two other favorites of mine are Collective Soul pretty much any album, and then Seven Mary Three's Economy of Sound album.

Hanson
laugh as loudly as you want, but some of their stuff reminds me of Matchbox 20 and if you want good voices, not many artists beat their harmonies.

Do they have to be a band? Right now, the CDs I'm into along with Maroon 5 is Gavin DeGraw, Sondre Lerche and Sarah Harmer.

I do like Collective Soul. I started listening to them after a thread on this board was discussing them. I just picked up 7 Year Itch at a resale shop for $5.00. I just heard a radio station promotion where one of the guys from CS said the typical "I listen to this station" promo. I haven't heard anyone from CS do this before so it got me excited to think maybe something is coming out from them soon??

Over The Rhine is my favorite band. They are a mix of rock-pop-country-alternative-gospel....It's so hard to describe them, really. But their newest album Ohio is my favorite album of 2003. You should at least go to their website www.overtherhine.com and listen to clips. Tell me what you think! Also, a band I recently got into this year named Eisley is really similar to Coldplay, but with female vocals. Their stuff is very melodic with an alt-rock twist. HIGHLY recommended.

They should have their new album about recorded by now, but they are still shopping for a label, so maybe late this year or early next year. However, the fact that they are starting to book tour dates suggest this year something will be out.

I just read about them in the May issue of Blender Magazine last night. I'll check them out. Irish band, right? It was a very positive article.

Thanks for the ideas. Never heard of Over the Rhine and they're from my home state. I'm going to Cincinnati this weekend for business. I'll check them out in the record stores down there. Went to their website. Couldn't see where to listen to clips, so I went to Amazon. Hard to tell from 30 second clips, though.

Northcoast,
I will definitely second recommendations for Idlewild, Damien Rice & Postal Service, all three of those CDs are incredible. My contributions:
Howie Day - Probably the most emotional, intense singer-songwriter out there. His music is as full of passion as any up and coming artist around. Check out his CDs "Australia" and "Stop All The World Now"
Something Corporate - It's tempting to lump these guys in with the pop-punk acts out there, but they are more like a Generation Y Counting Crows meets Ben Folds, in that it is piano-driven, angst-ridden rock music. Look for their two full length CDs, "Leaving Through The Window" & "North", as well as the incredible piano ballad "Konstantine"
