"Don't Tell Me" isn't exactly doing wonders right now on the pop chart. Do you think this is a case of coming back too soon to radio? Or, maybe radio isn't really ready to embrace her yet again?
Your thoughts?

This is a case of coming back with something that won't catch anyone's attention.

Hype alone will give her a good debut week. I don't think people want to see a more mature and Rock version of Avril, they want something more like her radio friendly Pop-Rock debut.

No, she came back with one of the most lyrically AWFUL songs i've heard in years, and gave her worst vocal performance EVER on it... and this is from someone who LOVED her first album.....
I adored all 4 'let go'singles, and the album. I can't even bear to listen to this song all the way though. It's HIDEOUS...

Actually no, on the contrary I think that the longer she waited, the more it would've flopped. The pop/punk fad is dying and therefore so is Avril's popularity. Good riddance.
I haven't even heard "Don't Tell Me," but if somebody who LIKED the first album said that the lyrics and vocals on this were awful, then I think I'll DEFINETELY pass on it.

You just can't make out what she's saying in the chorus. If the chorus has been more articulately sung, then it would do better. Everyone could sing along to "Complicated".

I agree. Horrible song...comeback singles have to be catchy. However, I cant stand most of Avril's stuff ["Im With You" is the only single i like]...let alone i cant stand her as a person.

I don't think she came back too soon... the break was long enough.
I don't see why everyone doesn't like the song - I like it a lot, and better than the last 3 singles from her debut album.

I'm with Sean on this one. I don't quite understand why people really dislike the song so much. I can see why they might think it's not a good first single (because people expect something like 'Complicated' again) but not that it's a horrible song.
I think Avril is coming back at the right time. The burner has cooled off a bit but hasn't gone out so there's still interest for her. I also think that this song was diliberately chosen because it sounds so much like her 'Let Go' stuff so it serves as a transition. Good stuff.
Also, something I noticed. When I first heard 'Don't Tell Me', it reminded me a bit of 'Naked', prolly because both songs' first verse ends with the word "trust" but also, I noticed the other night that at the end of verse 2 in 'Naked', the last track on 'Let Go', she says "In My Skin", or "Under My Skin" or something. I kinda thought that was interesting...

The pop/punk fad is dying and therefore so is Avril's popularity. It's not really dying, Avril just didn't have a strong enough single, it's actually pretty good considering the transition she's trying to make on this album.

I think she came back at the right time, but I think she shouldv'e released "Daydream" as her first single, it's would've made the perfect first single, "Don't Tell Me" would be performing a lot better if it was the 2nd single, but I really don't know why "Don't Tell Me" isn't doing well, I think it's a great song.

I like Don't Tell Me better than the first 3 singles on her last album, although I don't like Don't Tell Me as much as Daydream and I agree that the catchier song would have been a better choice. Now that Daydream isn't even on the album, who's to say how good this album single-wise is going to be?

Its not a horrible song. Its one of the worst choices for a first single that I have seen however. It seems like they tried to go very, very safe-as safe as possible. And thats not what people want or expect from Avril. All of her first album singles and most of her album tracks have more oomph, zing, whatever. However, she does have better tracks on the album so hopefully everyone will not judge by the horribly chosen first single.

She didn't come back to soon, she just didn't release "Daydream." Or a good comeback single for that matter. She should have released "Take Me Away" first from the songs that are on the album.
