Recently, after I listened to Eamon's F**k It on the radio, I was checking out this rather stupid reply song that literally took the cake. The reply song is just as worse as the the original. It's called F.U.R.B. (or F**k U Right Back) by a young lady named Frankee. I have had some very serious doubts about ladies dogging men from the tired and true lowfulness of reply songs and a 10-1 longshot of EVER in their so-called fledging careers to reach the charts. Another example, Oran "Juice" Jones' The Rain. Very hot song, until another female named Pamela counter-played him unsuccessfully with Walking In The Rain (Yeah, You Saw Me). I have a problem of the opposite sex dogging a man doing a really good song and turn it into her sinking quicksand of disasters. What I'm saying is, the reply songs are tired, true and never gets much airplay except it can be played about 5 or 10 times and that's it. Frankee's take on Eamon's song proved to be a disappointment from the start. And God forbid, that she doesn't try to do that crap again. Her career would be down the drain really quick. That's just my rant on these damn reply songs. What's yours?

I'm not very big on them.
The only reply song I do like is No Pigeons by Sporty Thievz
I also like the original No Scrubs by TLC.
I think that F.U.R.B is a contender for one of the worst songs ever. I Don't Want You Back is not far behind it either.

I love the song "No Pigeons",its awesome. I don't like Eamon, he can't sing and sounds whiny, and what's more pathetic is that the whole F.U.R.B. song was planned to promote him. Other than "No Pigeons", I usually can't stand reply songs.

There was also "21 Answers" by Lil' Mo, a reply to "21 Questions" by 50 Cent.
I think they suck. I haven't heard a reply song that was good. And it's a cheap shot at measly airplay and they're quickly forgotten.

There has only been one good one in music history:
Lynyrd Skynrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" has a line that is a direct shot at Neil Young, "I heard Neil Young sing about her. I heard 'ol Neil put her down. I hope Neil Young still remembers, a southern man don't need him around anyhow."
This line was a reply to Neil's blantantly stereotypical "Southern Man"

I also like "No Pigeons" and hate "F.U.R.B." I don't really have an opinion on reply songs in general. If it's done well, then I like it.

The Lynyrd Skynyrd song was the most famous reply, at least part of it, to a previous song, and they had the self-respect to do their own original tune.
I think there have been more such instances in the past, but I can't think of any at this time.Β I think the biggest reply song is from over 40 years ago: #4 "He'll Have To Stay" by Jeanne Black to Jim Reeves' #2 "He'll Have To Go".Β It's not even a very memorable tune, either.
I think the most famous of a related type of song, the follow-up, was by Leslie Gore, "Judy's Turn to Cry", follow-up to "It's My Party".Β In the first song she loses her boyfriend Johnny to Judy during her birthday party, while in her follow-up, she gets him back. They were written by different composers.

As a general rule, I hate them. So unoriginal. Agreed, except I actually liked "21 Answers" by Lil' Mo. But I didn't chart it.

Of that type, the one I remembered the most was the Moody Blues follow up to "In Your wildest Dreams" with "I know You're Out There Somewhere" although that wasn't really a diss back, but just a part II type of thing.

Depends on how they're used. Unless it's a dance song used for clubs or something, or if it's a bonus track or an extra track on the album of the artist who originally done it, but not released as a single, assuming the first one was, then it's alright. Otherwise, no.

I even hate it when someone mentions another song in their song, not to mention makes an entire song about another song.
