A co-worker mentioned to me that Rusted Root is coming to town for a concert. After I commented that I don't think I've ever heard of them she brought in their "When I Woke" CD. As it sat in my office, three people noticed it and commented on how much they love that album. I said I didn't think I knew any of the songs and they all said something like "oh yeah, you'll recognize it". Well, I just gave it a listen and nada! Were they really big or something? Any hits on the radio? What genre of music would you put them in. Thanks!

They had 'Send Me On My Way' to briefly hit the Top 40 in 1995, I think. Otherwise, I don't know anything from them. I'd imagine they're probably of a similar nature to Dave Matthews Band?

I would definitely classify them as a jam band, more similar to Dave Matthews than Phish. I couldn't tell you any of their songs besides "Send Me On My Way", but I, like your friends, would know them if I heard them. A few people I know loved these guys.
Personally, I thought they sucked.

Yeah, they're definitely a jam band. Probably a bit above average but not spectacular, so if you like that kind of music you'll like them. Their album I like the most is "Welcome to My Party" (& the title track was my #8 song of '02 ) although fans of their previous albums say that one sucks.
