"it used to be a few of us at a time, but now even the veterans wait in line"Β - Brandy From: "should I go"
What do you think of this quote? I think it is so true and it is addressing how veterans in the business are not getting the respect they deserve because ofΒ the "flavors of the month" who come in and take the spot light for 15 minutes and people forget about the people who accomlpished mroe then they ever will.
That was a shot out to all the fallen divas being replaced by less talented Flavors!!

While it's true, at the same time it can be said that the veterans had their time at the top and should move over for someone else to have a bit of glory. Maybe in 50 years there will be no music veterans so everyone can have a turn at success. LOL

The thing that bothers me is that the people coming in now will never last as long as people like Mariah, Janet, Mary J, Toni Braxton, Madonna,Β Whitney and so on.Β I mean most of these people wont last 2 or 3 albums....let alone 10 and 15 years!!!!!
I dont expect to see Ashanti 10 years from now doing anything lol. Her sales and popularity have already took a dive and she just started. She was finished before she even got started good lol.

]It used to bother me too and it still does. It's kinda sad to think that there might never be an artist to have a career as long as someone like Fleetwood Mac, for example. But then when you think about it, it's not that a big problem. A lot of artists' first albums are their best anyway but it is kinda sad because you get attached to someone and they aren't able to go past two or three albums due to lack of success.

I mean most of these people wont last 2 or 3 albums....let alone 10 and 15 years!!!!! So what's your point? If an artist has been around for 15 years, she should be expected to continue on for another 5? What about an artist that's been around 50 years? Another 5? Perhaps they're time is simply over? You're naming a lot of people who are either re-hashing their old songs over and over again and calling them "new" albums and people with problems (psychological, drugs...) Obviously, they're not the "it" people right now. I dont expect to see Ashanti 10 years from now doing anything lol. Her sales and popularity have already took a dive and she just started. She was finished before she even got started good lol. She was finished even before she had her 2 platinum albums? This makes no sense.

i wasnt makingΒ a point to u She was finished even before she had her 2 platinum albums? This makes no sense. she went from sellin over 3 million with her debut to seling half of that with her 2nd album and most people didnt even care she was around because she was replaced by Beyonce as the new it person.Β If you cant see Ashantis profile has been downsized a notch then thats sad. I guess her next album will go gold. once you are up...there is nowhere but down. And these new chicks dont have the re-invention skills of Madonna to make big comebacks.

i wasnt makingΒ a point to u ROTFL If you cant see Ashantis profile has been downsized a notch then thats sad. Just because you sold less of your second album doesn't make you a flop. It still sold over a million with only 2 hit singles didn't it? And these new chicks dont have the re-invention skills of Madonna to make big comebacks. People said that about Britney for 5 years. Maybe not Ashanti but not every new artist these past few years will have short-lived careers.

I think it's sad when you have an artist that clearly has the interest and fan base, but corporate radio simply won't play them to expose them to a new audience. With all the low sales in concerts when you have Prince and Van Halen selling out every venue, you know who the top dogs are, so why not play their music?
I like variety, but we aren't getting variety with this flavor of the month crap, we are still getting 20 massively overplayed songs to listen to rather than a true variety. I'll take the same 10 artists getting automatic hits with some more variety in the playlists over the crap we have now anyday.

To a certain extent I agree w/ Brandy's lyric(s), it is sad that flavors of the month can overshadow the veterans of the industry, yet it's a tough industry, don't trip or you can be trampled. BlueNote, I agree w/ you that veterans most of all deserve respent and are venerable, yet all of your examples's last albums were for the mostpart bland and dull. Mariah's work was too predictable, Janet's work was too faux-sexy to actually be appealing to the masses, Mary J.'s work was a mistake in general by allowing P. Diddy to help produce it, and Whitney's work seemed effortless, strained, & lackluster. Toni's last album I didn't hear enough of to be able to judge, and from hearing the Madonna album (thanks to a friend), her work was the only decent and bearable one. Few age well musically in the industry.
It'll at least be certified Platinum and sell past that mark.

I'm sorry but when I see Gay people flocking to leave the dance floor as a madonna song comes on....you know her song couldn't be anything other than TERRIBLE. I heard American Life and that shit is terrible....

Compared to the last albums by the other artists that BlueNote mentioned, Madonna's in my opinion was the best of them.

Compared to the last albums by the other artists that BlueNote mentioned, Madonna's in my opinion was the best of them. :o :o :o I thought American Life had some high lights like...."hollywood" "easy ride" "die another day" and "nothing fails" I think they were all exceptionally good. But as a whole the rest was trash.

IMO it was the worst of all the artists BlueNote mentioned and yes that includes Glitter. Mariah's last album was CharmBraclet, that was the album by her that I was talking about. And Adonis, who's last album out of those artists do you believe was the best work?
