Well, this is not really a poll, so I don't know if this is the right place for this discussion. What I wanted to know is what bands/solo acts you girls and boys feel deserved love from the mainstream, but are still only popular in an underground/indie/cultish kind of way. You know, the one you feel deserved CHR/Hot AC radio play, heavy rotation MTV/VH-1 airplay, cover of Rolling Stone or Spin... the whole thing. These are my choices: *Mos Def *Talib Kweli *DJ Shadow *Sonic Youth *Tom Waits *PJ Harvey *!!! (yeah, this is their band name!) *Spektrum *Air *Angie Stone *Amp Fiddler *Anthony Hamilton *Björk *Cee-Lo *Common *Dead Prez *Dilated Peoples *Har Mar Superstar *Junior Boys *Madlib *Mylo *Pete Rock *Sigur Rós *The Polyphonic Spree *The Faint *The Bees *Tiefschwarz *TV On The Radio *Soulwax *Tiga *Miss Kittin *New Sector Movements *Atmosphere *Little Brother (their beatmaker, 9th Wonder, did a beat on Jay-Z's "The Black Album" - which may be a good sign) *Hot Chip *Felix Da Housecat *Cocorosie *Grand National *McLusky *Division Of Laura Lee Come on, start showing your love for all your favorite neglected bands!

How do you pronounce that? They pronounce it "Chk Chk Chk"... Anyway, I definitely agree with Sonic Youth and McLusky in that list. I'd also like to add the following: Yo La Tengo Curve Metric And You Will Know Us By the Trail Of Dead Snapcase Pretty Girls Make Graves Idlewild Something For Kate Waikiki Cursive And although they broke up unfortunately, The Dismemberment Plan is the band of all bands that should have scored some measure of success.

Tori Amos...but at this point I'm glad that she doesn't. I like the direction her music has taken/is going.
I agree with PJ Harvey. She is unique and could have had a similar following as some punk bands I think
Bjork should be kept as far away from the mainstream as possible. She is too good for it.
Emm Gryner would be perfect for mainstream radio. *sigh*

Travis Starsailor The Roots
And if you're strictly talking about radio, here are some recent "mainstream" acts that deserve more airplay at CHR/Pop or Hot AC.
lostprophets N.E.R.D. Norah Jones ("Sunrise" should've been her biggest radio hit) Guster

Because The Corrs are not an undergroun/cult act anywhere. Even in the US. Both their last previous two albums went platinum and had quite some radio and music TV support. That's why.

Good point but a lot of American (and non-American) Corrs fans would disagree with that. And it's not like their new album has been selling like hotcakes. Each to their own, I guess.

I never really thought about it till now, but one of my favorite bands period, The Catherine Wheel deserve any kind of love they can get. Mainstream included.
Also, those in the U.K. may disagree with this, but on this side of the ocean, the Manic Street Preachers deserve some kind of recognition. I know If You Tolerate This, Your Children Will Be Next went to #20 on alternative, but that was a long long time ago, and I doubt anyone remembers it all that well.

Emm Gryner would be perfect for mainstream radio. *sigh* I saw her a few weeks ago and I was practically sitting in front of her. We left early because we were tired though. I felt bad because Emm is cool.
