Not sure what happened with the other topic. I was interested in seeing the posts and stuff, if there were more than one reply. What do you (j) mean by never doing covers? Recorded covers? Never having a cover appear on a CD/Soundtrack in studio or Live version? Never having performed a cover song live in public?

I think he means on any studio recording, or something like that. If so, then VAST qualifies. None of the demos/B-sides known have even been covers.

Who has never recorded an actual cover? I think a lot of artists would qualify for that...

No...
I was hoping people would chime in with examples.
I was looking at discographies of many 60s and 70s acts and there appears to be a large number of songs with the same titles, and I wasn't sure whether those were covers.
I think we have to exclude performing covers live, since I'm sure every artist that has gone on tour after just one album has performed at least one cover live.
So to be more specific, artists who have never had a cover song appear on an album or soundtrack (both studio and live).
Lastly, I'm not trying to pass judgement on covering songs. However, I do think that maybe only about 3% of covers are actually an improvement over the original or at least, provide a refreshing take on the song. The other 97% are just carbon copies or worse.

I don't think Shania Twain has any covers on her albums, although I don't know about b-sides. Then again, she has "Mutt" Lange at her disposal.
Do Christmas songs count? Because it's pretty much guaranteed that any artist/group that does a holiday album will have at least one cover.

Have Tool ever preformed a cover?
I don't recall ever hearing a cover from Tool.

"God Bless The Child" was a cover, but that was sort of an oddball for her (I don't think it appeared on one of her own albums).

That's a toughy there. Almost all of the artists I can think of have done covers. Even Joe, R.Kelly, and some other proclamined songwriters have done remakes either because they liked them or simply for a tribute to the artist.

Believe me, it's nearly impossible you'll find an artist that has never done a cover.
However, there are artists that perform covers yet have no intention to put them on albums or on the radio.
matchbox twenty is one group that has said that.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I was gonna say J.LO but I but no because she did a terrible cover or Selena's "I will Fall In Love". She also covered Diana Ross's "Do You Know Where You're Going To" and Carly Simon's "You Belong To Me".

They covered 'Never Going Back Again' for the Tribute to Fleetwood Mac's 'Rumours' CD. Oh, let me clarify. I meant studio albums of their own. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Alanis Morissette? The only cover she's done is 'King Of Pain' on her MTV CD but it's not a studio recording. Hmm...
