Who do you think is the most underrated female singer in music? What artist do you think uses their voice to the best of their capabilities and is able to pull it off live but is never given the credit for being able to do it?

Mandy Moore.
She has a good voice and she uses it REALLY well (better than ANY of her contemporaries). She has a lot of emotion and feeling in her voice. She never gets any credit for it. She always sings live too.
Give me beauty and depth over power any day.

Mandy's just not strong/versatile enough
Kelis has given some off-kilter performances, but she's close
YES I can agree with Tamia, always PERFECT performances, defn. defn.

Before 2003/2004, Liz Phair.
Jem is also horribly underrated.

I agree! She has a surprisingly strong voice. She's not the most unerrated though.

Mandy has plenty of support on these boards....... but in the real world she gets next to zero respect for her talent. Maybe she doesnt deserve any? I dont think her voice is any better then the Britneys, Hillarys, and Lindsys of the world.

I believe Jem owns the Brittneys, Christinas, Lindseys, Hilarys, Mandys, whoever the hell else you want to throw into that catagory.
You can also replace Jem with Joss Stone in that sentence.

Mandy Moore????? Puhlease! Kimberly Locke could sing Mandy into the ground and I don't even like Kimberly. Mandys a "C-" to Hillarys "D-" and Ashlees "F".

Aimee Mann is incredibly underrated as both a writer and a performer.

I'm agreeing with Tamia. I have yet to hear her give a horrible performance live or on wax. Deborah Cox and Faith Evans are underrated too.

Vocally Tamia's very underrated, but her material is so mediocre, what do you expect?

I agree with Tamia, and I really dig Jem. I just discovered her album a few months ago. But I have to add Faith Evans to the list. She doesn't get enough credit IMO.

yeah, actually Faith is notoriously underrated. She's started to get more critical acclaim, and we'll see how things go once her new album drops (supposed to be in December, so hopefully a single no later than October). In 2001-2002 when she was making the rounds on shows and stuff, her live performances were incredible.
