There have been more then a few albums that I hated when I first listened to then grew to like a whole lot. Here are some:
Yeah Yeah Yeah's - Fever To Tell Janet - Damita Jo Kelis - Tasty Missy Elliott - This Is Not A Test

The only one that comes to mind right now is Tragic Kingdom from No Doubt.

I'm sorry but how is this even possible? Will those who replied above care to venture an explanation?

Garth Brooks in the Life of Chris Gaines The Philosopher Kings Khaleel - People Watching
Explanation: I bought these when I was younger just for one song and because they were cheap. I didn't like the rest of the album. Then, years later when my tastes changed, I liked the rest songs on the album. And there's a few other albums I bought back then and loved, but now I hate.

I'm sorry but how is this even possible? Will those who replied above care to venture an explanation? Other than HowieDayFan's post, here's other possibilities: The album doesn't sound good to you the first time around, just because it's not completely catchy. Then later you end up being amazed with it. Or, you may have not been in the right mood for whatever it was the first time around. It's not usually imediate, but yes, it happens.

The best example I can think of is Maroon 5. I listened to it a few times but besides 'She Will Be Loved', nothing jumped out at me. Then I listened again a few weeks later and it was surprisingly good! A good B+ album!
The other example I have is Chantal's first CD. I don't think I gave it a chance though being the naive 12 year old I was but after 8 months or so, I finally listened to the CD in full again and it was awesome! #1 ever since!

The album doesn't sound good to you the first time around Then why buy it? Your topic seems more likely - that you buy an album because you like it, and then later your tastes change so you end up hating it. The only two possible scenarios I could think of for first hating an album and then later changing your mind. 1) It was a gift. 2) It was an unknown album on the $1.99 Used Rack that you bought on impulse. If I'm at a store, I'd preview the album first. If I buy online, then I listen to clips first too. Nowadays with WinMX, I always download a few tracks before I decide to buy the album. And even if I do buy an album without previewing, it's because I love the artist or have heard at least one song that I love, so I don't hate it. Anyway just thinking out loud.

Chances are people buy a cd because they've heard a couple of songs and wanted to check out the rest of their material from that cd.
It just so happens they didn't listen to it in the right setting or at the right time and thought it was bollocks.
Then they listened to it another time and love it.
I do that all the time.

I buy a lot of CDs on chance and I find that those ones are the best ones. Usually I'll buy them if they are compared to other singers I like or if I know the music they do is the kind that I like and in most cases, I'll generally like the CD without previewing it or hearing more than one song. My favourite CD of 2004 (I absolutely LOVE it), I completely bought on impulse just by seeing the CD there. I never heard of the singer before, nor have I heard any of the songs on it. I took a chance based on what the CD looked like and bought it.
