Not sure if a topic like this would go in here, but then again, I don't really know where it would go.
How about some sample hours from Jack (or whatever he's called) stations?
Mine's from a Joe-FM in Saginaw, 9-10 PM today.
Duran Duran - Wild Boys Rob Thomas - Lonely No More Bananarama - Cruel Summer Sheryl Crow - All I Wanna Do (9:15) A-Ha - Take on Me (9:19) Dobie Gray - Drift Away (9:23) Billy Joel - It's Still Rock & Roll to Me (9:26) Foo Fighters - Times Like These (9:29) ---Commercials--- Mr. Mister - Broken Wings (9:36) Warren Zevon - Werewolves of London (9:41) Pat Benatar - Hit Me With Your Best Shot (9:45) ---Commercials--- Tonic - If You Could Only See (Acoustic) (9:51) Rick Astley - Together Forever (9:55) Night Ranger - Sister Christian (9:59)
NOTE: I wasn't paying attention to the time until Sheryl.[/font]

KRQI 96.5 Seattle (an Inifinity station that went Jack yesterday) last twelve songs played from yes.net (times are Pacific Time): Oh man, this became a Jack station? :( That kinda sucks. It used to be "classic alternative" before that. I guess it was just getting killed in the ratings by KNDD. But it was really just an alternative station that leaned heavily on golds, since they did play a fair amount of currents and recurrents. I thought they were a great work station. That also explains why KPLZ/Star 101.5 added "and whatever we want" to their slogan ("Playing the best of the 80's, 90's and today...") a couple weeks ago. I've also heard "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC and some really weird disco relic that I'm not even sure was a song on the station.

I wish I had a Jack FM here in Nashville. But I've got plenty of "jack" playlists on my Audiogalaxy. I started doing them about 2 years ago. Wish I knew if one of the stations here was going to change their format sometime soon (to the "adult hits" format), but I doubt it. If we get one here, I'll be sure to post a sample hour.

Jack has landed in Baltimore after WQSR gave up the oldies format. The new Jack-FM in Baltimore is nothing like the rest of them musically. It's mostly 70's with some 80's thrown in. It's just an updated Oldies station. There's almost no 90's, and nothing from the past 6 years. No trainwreck segues here; just another Classic Hits station.

OK, Baltimore's Jack has basically flipped formats from yesterday to today. Yesterday, they were almost all 70's. Today, they're a "typical" Jack. From yes.net:

I didn't realize these stations also played currents? This new format is awesome! Some do. The stations that are actually named Jack don't. Nine FM in suburban Chicago plays currents. In fact, they play rap. Kinda weird to hear Snoop Dogg next to Carly Simon. BTW, Jack can now be found in Buffalo after Infinity flipped WBUF from hot talk to Jack on Monday after the conclusion of Howard Stern's show. Stern will remain until his contract is up at the end of the year.

I didn't realize these stations also played currents? This new format is awesome! The one here in Calgary only plays established songs (say around 6 months old or so). I rarely listen to the station but the latest song that I've heard is "Boulevard of Broken Dreams".

Jack in Calgary
"Hot Child In The City" by Nick Gilder "Bad Medicine" by Bon Jovi "Superman's Song" by Crash Test Dummies "The Boys Are Back In Town" by Thin Lizzy "(She's) Sexy + 17" by Stray Cats "Little Lies" by Fleetwood Mac "Jumpin' Jack Flash" by Rolling Stones "The Best Was Yet To Come" by Bryan Adams "Runner" by Manfred Mann "Feelin' Way Too Damn Good" by Nickelback "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Wings "You're A Strange Animal" by Gowan "Wrapped Around Your Finger" by Police "The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You" by Bryan Adams "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Pat Benatar
Only 2 Bryan Adams song in 1 hour! Overall, pretty boring.
A couple of months ago the people my Mom works for won $14,000 from Jack just for answering the phone "I listen to Jack"!

Add to this thread... WJMK 104.3 in Chicago and WCBS 101.1 in New York switched their format from oldies to Jack at 5e/4c today. However, the oldies format can be heard online and jockless. Problem is, is the oldies audience computer-literate enough to know there's an online stream?
