This is the second single (and by default the last one) from their new greatest hits album, U218 Singles. I haven't heard this one yet, but I always welcome new U2.
What I do not welcome is a ridiculous product that is obviously only being released as a tideover until the next official album. I'd understand if this was a last-ditch effort by Island to profit from the band, but it's not. U2 is releasing this through their new home at Mercury, so it's all their ballgame.
The tracklisting is as follows: 01. "Beautiful Day" 02. "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" 03. "Pride (In the Name of Love)" 04. "With or Without You" 05. "Vertigo" 06. "New Year's Day" 07. "Mysterious Ways" 08. "Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of" 09. "Where the Streets Have No Name" 10. "Sweetest Thing" 11. "Sunday Bloody Sunday" 12. "One" 13. "Desire" 14. "Walk On" 15. "Elevation" 16. "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" 17. "The Saints Are Coming" (ft. Green Day) 18. "Window in the Skies"
As you can see, there is reason to be disappointed.
Forget for a moment that aside from the inclusion of the two new tracks, "Elevation" (which was inexplicably left off of the previous hits compilations), and the two Atomic Bomb offerings, this is merely a reduced version of the previous two compilations.
Not only are there lots of singles left off of this set, but four albums are completely and utterly ignored: Boy, October, Zooropa, and Pop. All four singles from All That You Can't Leave Behind are on here, and yet only two from Atomic Bomb, even though that is the only album not to be featured on a hits album.
Finally, how much you want to bet that "Window In The Skies" ends up on their next album in some way? Betcha money. Then again, "The Hands That Built America" and "Electrical Storm" didn't, so maybe I'm wrong. But I think this is a waste of a release.

Maybe I'll get it since I failed to get the previous 2 CDs and I like U2 songs but probably not enough to even warrent getting the other two...

I'm not gonna get the GH for the two new tracks, but I'm very much looking forward to hearing "Window in the Skies".

The Saints Are Coming is really bad. I hope this is at least Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own-worthy.

The Saints Are Coming is really bad. I hope this is at least Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own-worthy. Interesting. I think that's my least favorite single from Atomic Bomb. "Original Of The Species" being my favorite, of course. In my opinion, the first two singles from that album ("Vertigo", "All Because of You") are among their most mediocre releases to date, while the latter three singles are all among their strongest releases to date ("Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own", "City of Blinding Lights", "Original of the Species") I really liked "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" for its climatic, emotional appeal, "City of Blinding Lights" for its arena-charged, imagination-reeling beauty that also resounded with that sort of "Where The Streets Have No Name" sound, and "Original of the Species" for its beautiful, soaring production and romantic themes. "Vertigo" was just generic to me; it sounded basically like the band went back through their whole catalogue and cut-and-pasted a little bit of everything into a tailor-made radio single, and amplifying it so Alternative would embrace it. And "All Because of You", although I like that they made an effort to get their more edgier-rock sound on the radio, was just lame and uninspiring, in my opinion. One of my two favorite tracks from the album (the other the single "City of Blinding Lights") was "Crumbs From Your Table". Though I certainly understand that it was never released as a single, I think it's the song on "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" that sounds most amazing live. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I LOVED "City of Blinding Lights", it's up there with the singles from The Joshua Tree in my opinion. Fantastic song...I liked Vertigo too and don't think it was a bad release at all or sounded uninspired. It was a fun, anthemic song which was a perfect first single to me.

I also love "City of Blinding Lights". I'd probably say it's the best of their post-Achtung Baby singles. I agree that the first two Atomic Bomb singles sounded really generic, and I personally don't care for "Sometimes You Can't Make It..." either. I can't say that I remember what "Original of the Species" sounds like.

Song for song, I believe Atomic Bomb is their best album, actually. I've not heard Boy, October, or Unforgettable Fire, but I own all their other studio albums.
It was a surprising revelation to me when I realized that was my favorite album of theirs, as I had never really thought about it much, before.

I'm not a U2 fan at all, but I do like "City of Blinding Lights".

I agree about "City of Blinding Lights". That and "Yahweh" are my two favorites from Atomic Bomb. I don't really think it's that bad an album. I still prefer Achtung by a mile, though.

I just heard "Window in the Skies", and I'm not impressed by it.
It's another spiritual love song from the band, but seems to rely more on a standard mid-tempo hook, and in result lacks the emotive charm and inspiration that made "City of Blinding Lights" and "Original of the Species" great, as well as the conviction of "One".
This single isn't going to get any further than "The Saints Are Coming".
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Wasn't "The Sweetest Thing" on Pop? I only own their last albums so I'm not sure. But that song with Green Day is attrocious. The first time I saw that they had collaborated I thought immediately that it would be like the most successful song in recent history for rock since it's essentially the two biggest bands in music teaming up. Then I heard it and was like... ugh

I can't believe U2 agreed to yet another compilation. Disappointing.

It appears the actual title is U218 and being such Spin magazine made a witty comment about it in their current issue where they make that random pop culture Top 20 that resembles the Billboard chart. In that feature, they always have the reference and then the punchline. This one was something like:
U218: Either a collection of 18 U2 songs, or 218 songs by some band called U.

Considering what I heard, which was half the song (the rest of the song wouldn't load ), I'm not too impressed. I highly doubt this will perform better than "The Saints Are Coming."

Eh, it sounds like a song from a greatest hits album. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing for me.

Oh, and one of my stations finally updated their playlist after 3 looong, frustrating months, and so I've already heard "The Saints Are Coming" twice, bringing my total experiences with it up to 3, now. Yeah, that song kicks ass.

I'm a big fan of "The Saints Are Coming," but this has to be the worst U2 single I have ever heard, and considering songs like "Elevation", that's saying something.
It certainly seems like every band lately is trying to cash in with a greatest hits album.

This really didn't do much for me either. I think The Saints Are Coming is much better. Just the chorus alone beats the hell out of this.

"Windows" has grown on me...I really like it now...resonates better than anything off their last 2 albums...

It has grown on me too. Probably more than 'The Saints Are Coming' has.. I was slightly disappointed with that song. However, I can't get over the feeling that Bono is trying too hard to write a nice ballady song with this one.

Eh, it sounds like a song from a greatest hits album. Agreed... but still, a snoozer.
