Hi guys! I'm collecting suggestions for considering for the final nomination list for the 2006 Pulse Music Awards. Basically, all that needs to be done now is for anyone and everyone to submit songs, artists and albums to the respective categories. There is no limit to the number you can suggest because, as I said, this is the suggestions period and basically, the more songs/artists/albums to choose from, the better because it will represent a wide range of artists for each category.
So I'm going to post the categories that are significant to this forum and you can either PM me or reply to this topic your suggestions. I don't have a set deadline yet but I'm thinking maybe around the end of November.
Here are the categories:
Best Alternative/Rock Artist Any artist that fits the format of alternative and rock and that had major/minor success on the rock-based charts from October 2005-September 2006
Best Alternative/Rock Song Any song that peaked within the range of October 2005-September 2006 on the rock-based charts.
Best Alternative/Rock Album Any album that was released between the first week of October 2005 to the last week of September 2006 that fits the rock genres.
I'm also looking for people who's expertise and main musical interest lies within the realm of the rock formats and genres who would like to help with choosing the nominees for these three awards. Basically, what you will have to do is go through the entire list of suggestions made and choose your favourite 10, put them in rank order for 1 to 10 and the Top 5 (give or take 2) will make it on the official nomination list. If you're interested, reply here or PM me.
Here is a link to the main topic that lists all of the other categories if you are interesting in submitting suggestions to those as well: pulsemusic.proboards48.com/index.cgi?board=opinion&action=display&thread=1163296432
Thanks! :)

I'm not sure if we're actually supposed to number these from favorite to least favorite, but I'll list seven suggestions from each category. I also posted this (for the most part) in the main Pulse Music Awards forum. Although I don't understand why they have to be between Oct. of 2005 and Sept. of this year. By the way, I think this is an excellent idea Best Alternative/Rock ArtistPearl Jam Muse Yellowcard Angels And Airwaves Red Hot Chili Peppers Hawthorne Heights Foo Fighters Best Alternative/Rock SongPearl Jam - World Wide Suicide Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dani California Three Days Grace - Animal I Have Become Stone Sour - Through Glass Yellowcard - Lights And Sounds Muse - Knights Of Cydonia Blue October - Hate Me Best Alternative/Rock AlbumMuse - Black Holes And Revelations Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium AFI - December Underground Rise Against - The Sufferer And The Witness Yellowcard - Lights And Sounds Story Of The Year - In The Wake Of Determination This is more or less a combination of my personal awards and awards that I think will (and probably deserve) to win in the greater scheme of the alternative world. Everyone's alternative world is slightly different from the combined alternative world, so yeah. I will probably nominate my personal awards at the beginning of next month, so, if anyone's interested, I created that topic in the Personal Charts forum. So yeah, check it out. ;) *EDIT* OK, so 10 Years didn't qualify. I replaced "Wasteland" with "Hate Me".

Although I don't understand why they have to be between Oct. of 2005 and Sept. of this year. Which means albums from Senses Fail, Evanescence, and Brand New aren't eligible. :( But it also means that albums that came out late last year and may have been forgotten could get nominated. Thrice's Vheissu is one example. I'll post my suggestions later and I would also like to help choosing the nominees. But I'm pretty sure everyone who has posted here would want to participate in that as well. ;)

According to the time period, (+44) is not eligible, and neither should be 10 Years' "Wasteland", IMO.
However, I would like to add Red's End Of Silence to my albums list, and I support most of the albums on Idiot's list.

Nope. Not yet. That's the next step for people that are on the panel. This stage is just a suggestion stage to get as many names and songs in as we can think of so that the people on the panel have a lot to choose from. If you want to be on the panel that chooses the nominations, all you gotta do is have an interest in the formats and some decent knowledge of what the format and genre should be and what the best was for the year. I think that way, the list of nominees will be chosen by people that like the music and know the music the best for each genre.
I think it's similiar to the Grammy eligibility period. The idea was to have it represent 2006 but since a lot of albums that were big in 2006 came out in late 2005, I figured it would be best to include those. And a lot of 2006's big hits from early in the year were released in 2005 as well, they should be included. Also, since this is being done now, it should represent a 12-month-range and since anything released in October is still fairly new, I went with a September 2006 cutoff. Next year will (should) be October 2006-September 2007.

..., and neither should be 10 Years' "Wasteland", IMO. Why? It was sitting at only #28 on 10/07/05. I'll add "wasteland" and "perfect situation".

Just because radio left it up there on the charts for way past the expiration date doesn't necessarily mean it should be included. I mean, if that's the case, then why not just start nominating recurrents? I think that the time period rule should apply to radio add dates when choosing the best alternative song, not to what was specifically on the chart during that time period. It's just my opinion, but I'm just thinking it's only fair. I mean, the point is to choose what was big in 2006. Was "Wasteland" still big in 2006? Not really. EDIT: Upon further examination, it seems that "Wasteland" actually didn't hit #1 until February of this year. Whatever. "Through The Iris" and "Waking Up" don't get nearly enough credit and those were actually released in the time period.

Also, THE GOO GOO DOLLS has an amazing album. They should be nominated for sure!! I disagree. It's a good album, but it's far from their best. At the very least, Gutterflower and Dizzy Up The Girl are both superior. I don't think it deserves to be a nominee when compared to better albums like Pearl Jam or 10,000 Days or Stadium Arcadium. That's one man's opinion though.

That's one man's opinion though. Well, the Goo Goo Dolls are obviously no longer an alternative band, but you could probably make a strong argument for Gutterflower being an "alternative" record, because "Here Is Gone" peaked around #24 in '02. Dizzy Up The Girl was really quite bland other than the singles. I own A Boy Named Goo, which I thought was a great sorta pop-punk album with a grunge twist. I miss those days of the Goo Goos.
