2007 Is Shaping Up Quite Nicely... Wouldn't you agree? Upcoming release dates for some highly-anticipated releases: 1/23: Mum - The Peel Session 1/23: Animal Collective - People EP 1/23: Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer 1/23: The Shins - Wincing The Night Away 1/30: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Some Loud Thunder 1/30: Lily Allen - Alright Still 2/6: Bloc Party - A Weekend In The City 2/6: Sondre Lerche - Phantom Punch 2/20: Explosions In The Sky - All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone 3/6: !!! - Myth Takes 3/6: Air - Pocket Symphony 3/20: Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha 3/20: I'm From Barcelona - Let Me Introduce My Friends 3/20: LCD Soundsystem - Sound Of Silver 3/20: Low - Drums & Guns 3/20: The Ponys - Turn The Lights Out Jarvis Cocker's & The Long Blondes' should be released early next year, too. I have the entire LB discography (demos & all) on my hard drive, but I'm waiting to see if the US release will have bonus tracks. If it doesn't & it's not released by March, I'm going to have to buy the damn import (as usual ). Jarvis, too. Take it from the Guillemots & Pipettes - some things just never transverse the Pond. :'(

Feh. That list from metacritic remembers Sevendust and Fall Out Boy but not Saliva, Anberlin, Modest Mouse, Finger Eleven, Relient K, or the Exies. I'll stick with my own list.
And now that it's posted, maybe I'll update it from time to time.

I'm not that excited for the Of Montreal, Shins, Apples In Stereo, Calla, or Explosions In The Sky, but my interest is piqued enough to potentially buy those albums if I like what I hear. Everything else is probably a definite purchase. I am uber psyched for the new Air, LCD, Bloc Party, & The Fall. I already have Lily Allen's album, but I'm looking forward to her US promotional cycle.

I've been told its like "chk chk chk" Where would I find it at my record store is a better question. I think somebody may have asked the same question for their last album a few years ago. That is one of the most puzzling questions I've ever seen. Wow, well I'd assume it would be in the C section, but maybe it could be before the A's considering its a symbol. I wonder if the band was thinking about this when they formed the name, and did it on purpose to confuse the fuck out of their fans.

This whole (+44) thing has gone too far. At least drop the parentheses - they are pointless. Which band member's idea was that anyway? Do they really want to be taken that seriously? Should we spell the Red Hot Chili Peppers RhCP* if they wanted it that way. Fuck no.
Any band could just invent some fancy-schmancy, idiotic punctuation to describe their actual band title (like Stellastarr*. These cheesy name changes are why I protest adding the "U.K." to bands like the Charlatans, "STL" to Mesh, and changing Matchbox 20 to Twenty.
I just spell their name: Plus-44. That was what they were originally called, and it's what they should be called, dammit.

The new NIN *IS* coming out in the Spring, believe it or not.
As a semi-hardcore fan, I'm shocked shitless.
I can't wait for the DVD.
That's probably the "biggest" release I'll be buying first quarter. ;)
Hope it rocks...

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the new NIN album bombs commercially. I mean, three #1s from With Teeth after lukewarm radio reception from their last three albums just spells fluke to me, but maybe I'm wrong.
Not to say the album won't sound great. But I am doubting Trent can pull off sheer dominance like he did in '05 and early this year.

On the subject of Mesh: they're now Modern Day Zero, so the point is moot.
On the subject of Matchbox Twenty: It's weird, but I've never liked 20, and I'm glad that ever since Mad Season, they changed it to Twenty. I think it looks a lot nicer and it doesn't exactly lump them in with all the number bands. It's not like there's a great debate about the 20 issue; they've been Twenty for a long time now and everyone refers to them in that way. Get with the times, man.
On the subject of NIN: Trent said this album isn't going to sound like With Teeth. I'm curious as to if that means it's going to go back to the less mainstream sound of previous albums or if it means something else entirely. Either way, I'm as surprised as anyone else that a new album is coming out so soon. Then again, Reznor had been working on new material even before starting the With Teeth tour, so I knew a follow-up was going to come quicker than usual, but I thought he'd want to stop and take his time. He must really be happy with it.

Hey, penance, I own that album and love the singles from More Than You Think You Are as well. And I've loved what I heard from Robbie's solo album. Although I will admit nothing can touch the first album...

I hope the new NIN is straight up dance music. THTF threatened to go there, and I'd love for them to take it all the way there (and cause a lot of NINies to commit suicide, hahaha). I'm done with industrial & metal NIN. It's time to move on. I liked With Teeth because it was essentially a nice, atmospheric rock meets dance album. I'm tired of people s**tting on it. Trent isn't going to ever be Mister Self Destruct again. Move on.
It did well commercially because it had catchy, unique singles that let electrophobic hard rock fans still feel masculine as they shook their asses. Because it said "NIN" and not "DFA", it didn't threaten them enough to worry. HAHAHA.

I might actually call myself a fan if Trent Reznor weren't such an arrogant, pompous dick. I understand the concept of misunderstood genius (and use your own judgement call on whether Trent should be labeled one), I just think he comes across in the media as incredibly self-righteous.
Artists like Dave Grohl and Anthony Kiedis come across as genuine nice guys while staying true to their own music. And Cornell and Vedder, while sometimes in their own worlds, tend to be thoughtful and respectable people themselves. Why can't greats like Reznor or Corgan be this way?

Trent Reznor is a fucking asshole. A no-neck middle-aged midget fucking a girl my age. Billy Corgan is a washed up dinosaur that writes better songs for others than for his own projects these days.
That being said, I love them both.

That was what they were originally called, and it's what they should be called, dammit. Overreact, why don't you. In the case of (+44), (I've never actually seen it used as a dialing code, so I can't say for sure) I think a good reason for parentheses is so it doesn't automatically lose the + and get shifted to the right of a program like Excel when you type it in a cell. And as for preferring + over Plus-, I think that's purely an aesthetical choice. It still gets filed in the P's. That's how you say their name, if nothing else. In the case of the Charlatans (U.K.), (the London) Suede, the (English) Beat, the former Mesh stl, et al., it's all a matter of two bands sharing the name, one of which is seeking global distribution. What, now that a band is popular enough to warrant global attention, having not realized the name already existed somewhere, you want them to change the whole name? That's kind of a lot to ask. Aside from Matchbox Twenty (who wanted a different aesthetic for their name), no name alterations like these are frivolous, believe me.
