*(I'm not sure if this is the right forum to be posting this, so you can move it you'd like)
I like all kinds of "alternative" and "rock" bands but I can't find any station in the country that plays ALL the bands that I like. For example, I'd love to hear bands like Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Marilyn Manson, Nirvana, and Godsmack (to name a few) on the same station as like The Fray, Lifehouse, Third Eye Blind, Live and Matchbox 20; plus everything in between.
A lot of people probably hate all of those bands and think they suck, and I'm aware of that, but the diversity is pretty intriguing. Does anyone think that a station that would mix all those bands together would be somewhat successful? Cause I know a lot of people that like those polar different styles and it seems that all these stations these days are claiming to have "the best variety" or are "musically diverse" when they don't even touch some of those bands. It's just annoying having switch between Hot AC stations to Modern Rock to Alternative stations to hear all the bands I like.
So would any of you listen to a station that played like poppy 90's rock to modern hard rock and everything in between?

I remember at one point, the old WLIR was a Modern AC which wasn't too far from that, playing stuff from Blink 182 and something like Puddle of Mudd to the Cure and Sarah McLachlan.
The new one is pretty diverse too, but it's more indie-leaning...

Yeah, that's pretty much what Star 98.7 in LA is doing. Except they don't play the harder music like 91X or KROQ plays. I like the concept of Modern AC. More stations should jump on that bandwagon.

Actually, I like all those bands except The Fray and Live and even those two bands I don't mind. If there were a station that played bands like like The Goo Goo Dolls and Lifehouse along with Disturbed, Godsmack, Mudvayne, etc. I would be in heaven. The rock I truly dislike is pre-90's, indie, emo, and most punk- your station doesn't look like it would include those styles so I would be one happy dude.

Now in days, all the lighter bands you mention like The Fray, Third Eye Blind, Lifehouse, and Matchbox 20 aren't really played anywhere as much on an Alternative station as they would have 5-10 years ago and now they're all bigger on a Hot AC station. Some stations like for example plays all the band above, but obviously either the harder or lighter bands come on only once in a blue moon.

mix101fm.com/Actually, now that I think about it, they haven't played Third Eye Blind in forever. Which is too bad. As far as Matchbox 20 goes, with the exception of "Bent" they play the singles from the first album.

Honestly, I don't listen to a lot of radio and when I do, it's usually a Hot AC station but I found that over the last few years, I've gotten into more rock music and I've been less interested in the lighter side of Hot AC (or the inclusion of potential AC-crossover songs as well as the pop-based stuff) so a station like this would probably be right up my alley because it's (a) currents based, unlike the current rock station in Halifax which does play a lot of currents but also a lot of classic rock, which I guess is what a rock station is supposed to be. (b) isn't too heavy. I'm no prude but I find a lot of heavier type rock music eventually just starts to sound the same for me. A station like this has a good amount of heavier songs but also lots of light rock, indie rock and some hot ac songs without going pop or AC. I think this would be pretty much representative of my chart (except my chart tends to have some pop and hip-hop as well).
Oh, another thing is that I think stations like this shouldn't be so male-dominated. They need to include more female vocalists on their playlist. THEN it would be right up my alley!

With the exception of Marilyn Manson and a lot of Nirvana, KNSX in St. Louis plays all of that. Obviously they play less of the latter bands since they're less current, but I'll bet if you listened all day, you'd hear at least one song each by the former group and at least a couple of the bands in the latter.

I like the sound of that station too! It would be cool if they played No Doubt and Sheryl Crow (then sprinkle in some Alanis and Avril even though I don't really like them but it would mix things up a bit). And Nicholas2.0, I looked at the top 100 songs played from yes.com for that station and I'm jealous. That's probably the closest station to what I like. Add in the stuff they play on KYSR then I'd be one happy boy haha

Lifehouse next to Marilyn Manson.
How about Jars of Clay next to some Cannibal Corpse!
commercial radio as comedy. that would be great actually.

I would find myself changing the station often. I'm not really a big fan of the lighter AC material, but there's a time and a place for it. We had a couple stations here in K.C. that played basically whatever they wanted (actually, it was whatever rock-leaning music they wanted), Jack-FM 105.1 and 97.3 the Planet. (They would typically stay away from harder metal/nu-metal).
I'm not sure you could classify it as a *rock station*, per se. It would be an interesting idea...

What do you consider "lighter AC material"?

What do you consider "lighter AC material"? I guess my main point was that, technically, Phil Collins is still a rock artist per se, but I wouldn't even associate him with Hot AC. I was sorta referring to AC as a general category, encompassing Hot AC and AC. Honestly, I'll listen to any good song on the radio no matter what the station is. And then I'll usually switch stations afterwards. I just wish rock radio would play more of what's newer though. I'm sick of them catering to the average listener and forcing me to relive 1996. I wanna relive 2006, dammit.

Ohhh okay. I like the music from that era though so I don't mind that much. But it would get annoying if they played more older music than new stuff. The Hot AC station here at one time played 65-70% 80's music and the rest was "new" music that was getting close to going to reccurent. Luckily they replaced that PD and now they're playing music that's somewhat newer but it still gets on my nerves.
