I think this will be #1 on a lot of year-end radio station countdowns by the end of the year.

I heard this for the first time (and in full!) on the radio today and I must say that this song is f**king awesome.
I haven't been this excited by a Foo Fighters song in 5 years, maybe 10. In Your Honor was too long and too safe, although I thought One by One was really solid front to back.
This is very easily the hardest the Foos have rocked in a very long time.
"All My Life" peaked on my personal chart at #4, "Best of You" peaked at #33, and all their singles between and since haven't even cracked the Top 40, I thought they were too ordinary. And this is one of my 20 favorite bands, whose debut album is my 11th favorite of all time, and whose second is my #88. This song will most definitely find its way into my Top 10 (maybe 5 or beyond) and I'll be looking forward to buying the album the first week, as opposed to feeling obligated.

I think this lead single will easily dispel most worries and rumors going around that the Foo Fighters are softening up too much after an acoustic tour and Grohl having a new daughter since the "In Your Honor" era.
Only "All My Life" ranks up to this in terms of the loudest lead singles from them thus far, and the outro to "The Pretender" is among one of the loudest portions of any Foo Fighter song.
Even with the "Minutes to Midnight" era remaining new for Linkin Park, thus making them a force to reckon with currently on the Rock charts, this lead single will blitz by even them, as the Foo Fighters have a more remarkable and proven track record on both Alternative and Active Rock that has actually strengthened each era in many respects.
This is destined to, and will be, their fifth career #1 hit to date on Alternative, no doubt about that.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I should know by now that 30-second clips don't do songs justice. :) This is solid.

Told you it would go #1 in first week. How many days has it been running? If its only been running since Monday then its aleady at a much faster pace than LP and it does officially have 5 more days. Its gonna have a harder time since LP debuted when NOTHING was really going on in the top 5 and NiN was already losing steam, I believe the biggest song when LP debuted on #1 had 7.4 million audience and 1800ish spins. So this song has to get 2,400+ spins and probably 11 million audience. Probably not a BIG deal considering it already has the biggest audience jez lol. It does deserve it though, not just cuz Foo Fighters are a big name act and are back but because this the best rock song I've heard all year! I'm gonna turn on the radio and see what my boss thinks of the song...shouldn't take long for this song to come on since its playing every hour already lol. Oops, sorry - this isn't pop radio...every 3 hours ;)

WOW! Great song indeed and one of my 2007's faves.
It will be huge. Album up for pre-order at Itunes and song already at 31, at the overall chart and 5 at the Alternative chart.

Billboard.biz: "The Pretender" brings Foo Fighters back to the Alternative/Modern Rock radio chart for the first time in more than a year, bursting in at No. 16. The song's debut is the third-highest bow of the group's 20 chart entries, trailing only the No. 12 entries for both their 1995 debut track, "This Is a Call," and 2005's "Best of You." The Foo's sixth studio album, "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace," streets Sept. 25.

According to AbsolutePunk: The Foo Fighters "The Pretender" has the biggest combined radio add week of 2007 for any song at active, alternative, and mainstream rock formats.

I was looking at AllAccess on Thursday and the numbers were like this song - sickeningly awesome! Something like +2900ish for all formats. LP was +2500ish I believe as it didn't do as good on Active Rock or Rock Mainstream (in the beginning). But like I said before, Linkin Park had it easier to debut at #1 when there were no 2k, hell even 1.8k songs around. Foo Fighters will have to settle for a #3 debut. Slowing down but no way this aint going #1, could have to wait till week 3 though.

The opening to this song sounds very reminiscent of "Stairway To Heaven" (Zeppelin).
It has that same familiar catchability all the great Foo songs of the recent past have had ("DOA", "All My Life"). Honestly, the only F.F. song that has ever truly disappointed me upon first listen is "Best of You". However, I can understand that song's "dramatics", for lack of a better word, as well.
Nonetheless, I hope this time around they can actually go 4-deep with their album (where the 4th single does something meaningful chartwise). We'll see!

Looks like it'll just miss #1 this week, giving Finger Eleven its 2nd week at the top.

This needs to stay on its throne for the rest of the year. Kid Rock's new one isn't that great and neither is Linkin Parks.
