Wes Scantlin apparently announced at a concert that this would be the second single from Famous, and that the video would be filmed at the Bates Motel.
If I recall correctly, this song has been played live before several times as "Schizophrenic Psycho" and it kind of has a "She Hates Me" kind of vibe to it. Could be wrong.

I seem to remember Wes playing this acoustically on an episode of Loveline I caught last year. And yeah, I believe it did have a "She Hates Me" vibe to it. Hopefully, especially since "Famous" didn't do/isn't doing too well, this will bomb worse and I won't have to hear much more new stuff from them on my radios after that.

Isn't doing well? It peaked at #20 on Alternative and it's at #2 on Active. I'd say considering it's a band that only went gold with their sophomore album and is coming back after a four-year hiatus, that's an amazing success.

I have high expectations for this. Not because Puddle of Mudd are a band I hold in a high regard, but because it's hard to do a song worse than "Famous".

Yeah I would agree with Penance and say "Famous" is doing pretty well. With the exception of maybe 4 or 5 bands, alternative has dumped all bands affiliated with the post-grunge and alt/nu-metal era and has become uninterested in new bands that fall under the aforementioned classifications. At least where I'm from, bands like Chevelle, Disturbed, Sevendust, Godsmack, and Nickelback are all about as popular as they were in their primes on the Alternative Chart. It's just that alternative is now a home for a different audience than before (indie and some residual emo) and the people who like heavier music listen to active rock, where these bands are doing better than ever. Sure these bands aren't selling as well as they used to, but the top alternative bands aren't selling as well as the biggest alternative acts of five years ago either. So when more rock-oriented bands don't do as well on alternative as they used to, I don't think it's due to stark decline in their popularity.

Considering I have no Active Rock station, I'm recalling that "Away From Me" made the Top 5 on Alternative, that's all. I have high expectations for this. Not because Puddle of Mudd are a band I hold in a high regard, but because it's hard to do a song worse than "Famous". Ohhhh, I wouldn't call something like that just yet. It's been so long since I heard Wes perform it, but from what I remember, it was pretty awful. I always give Puddle of Mudd the benefit of the doubt with every single they put out, but aside from "Blurry," all their singles have either been boring or shit.

My favourite's probably "Drift and Die", followed by "She Hates Me" (that's right, the song that parodies their career is my second favourite). I will admit, though, that "Famous" has been growing on me lately.

As far as the albums have gone, I haven't been impressed much with either one, but I'm still going to keep this new album no matter what it sounds like. I do like "Come Clean" much better than "Life On Display", which I get bored with just around the halfway point of the album.
I've liked every single they've put out, except I'm not exactly too fond of "Drift And Die" and "Spin You Around", but "Control," "She Hates Me," "Away From Me," "Heel Over Head," and "Famous" are all great rockin' songs that I can never get sick of. "Without a doubt "Blurry" is my all-time favorite Puddle Of Mudd song, and maybe one of my favorite songs ever. It sucks that I rarely hear it on the radio anymore.

I hear "Blurry" just a tad too often. It's like, "If you gave it a longer rest, I might not change the station on it every time."

I totally forgot that I actually use "Control" as the personal ringtone for whenever a specific person calls me. Penance, I'm sure you know who that is :) There's my totally pointless post of the night.

There's a joke in there somewhere, but I don't feel like trying to work it out.

Goes for adds September 24th. Clip of it can be heard at Puddle Of Mudd's website. It really does have a whole "She Hates Me" flavor to it and since that song did so well, maybe this will follow.

While some harder acts can still do well on the Alt charts (Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace) those are more "red state" alt. acts. The big guns on the coasts (besides K-Rock here in NYC) don't usually give those acts of lot of airplay because there's not any sense of coolness to them. That being said, the other single is garbage (Famous) and I don't see these guys making much of a lasting mark. THey were deriviative, straight up AOR-rock to begin with and I don't see why the alternative charts gave them so much time. Now, if we only we could get more stations playing Motion City Soundtrack...

sounds like a good song. hope the extra time they put into the album isn't a disappointment.

Now, if we only we could get more stations playing Motion City Soundtrack... These guys have already made their lasting mark. A multi-platinum album. Followed by an album that bombed and barely went gold and then this. That's pretty successful. I know penance will agree with me on this point, but people want to keep dissing this alt-metal stuff, but the commanding majority of these bands continue to rise to "successful" sales/chart levels every. single. time. For every two Smile Empty Souls and Crossfades, there are seven Godsmacks, Sevendusts, Chevelles, Three Days Graces, etc. etc.

It's funny because I have almost the opposite issue at Tunelab. They're so far into this alt-metal, post-grunge type of stuff that they diss practically every other band that gets news. It's frustrating. I wish, that even if people don't enjoy things, they could at least recognize that other people do and live in harmony with the idea instead of saying stupid things like "God I wish this band would break up already."

people have beat the comparison to Nirvana to death. well not so much a comparsion as a 'puddle of mudd' ripped them off. listening to this song, I can really hear it. if I played this song back to back with a nirvana song to someone who doesn't usually listen to it, I doubt they could tell the difference.

I just downloaded the new album and I'm quite impressed. I like this a lot better than "Come Clean" or "Life On Display." "Psycho" I think is a good single choice, and there are many others that I could see doing quite well on the airwaves in the future. I'll have to give it a few more listens to say which ones though.

Meh, Life On Display was better in my opinion. I loved almost all of that whole album. I think this album is alright, but I think they went a little crazy on the slower songs, and I think with "Psycho" they were trying too hard to write another "She Hates Me". I'm not disappointed but right now I'm really liking Alter Bridge's Blackbird and Skindred's Roots Rock Riot a lot more.

What's this? It's in the top 5? With a +189 bullet?
At this rate, it'll stay there for 54 more weeks.
