Hey, first i gotta say i love the board! This is really weird and i was just wondering if anyone else has this. My home computer is fine. But, when i sign on this board from work it always resets my homepage to www.searchwww.com. I always have to reset it manually. Sure enough, i would visit the board again and it changes again. it only happens with this board. Anyone?

Sounds like a problem with your work computer.

i sorta get some spyware, but i wouldn't say it was from this board... maybe the computer you are using actually has a dialer (connects all the sites you visit, have visited to a main server) which needs to be removed immediately

ouch... Cool Search is going to be a real pain in the a :o :o to get out of your computer. Just keep searching through your files for it and keep deleting them. That's what I did when I got spyware. It took a few weeks but they eventually went away for good. Sometimes they won't delete and your best bet is to look for an uninstaller and if you can't find one online, rename the file to something without an extension and try to delete it.

You had it too?!! HELP ME!! What files do I look for? And it can be rid of by just deleting the files a few times? The problem with spyware is that it basically duplicates. One program will download another. So what I did was I went through my hard drives and deleted anything that I didn't recognize. You may have to do this several times over the next month but it will keep more spyware from downloading.

That's a little risky unless you're extremely familiar with what files are necessary and which ones aren't. I Googled for an uninstaller like you said and found one. www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip Hope it works. I'll find out the next time I reboot.

Even if it uninstalls Cool Search, you may still have spyware. The folder where all the vital files are is the Windows file. As long as that folder isn't infected, you should be fine if you know what to delete.

I got spyware. It changed my homepage to MSN. I changed it back and it hasn't bothered me since.

I've never gotten Spyware from a Proboard before. It's usually from pop-up ads.

I didn't reinstall anything. The computer restarted telling me how to get rid of spyware but it froze.

Does quarantining files that are spyware do any good?

Not sure. I think it disables them but allows you to replace the files should they turn out to be necessary for something else to function. Like a Recycle Bin?
I usually just delete the files.

Well some spyware isn't just files, it messes around with your registry. I had the orbitexplorer spyware on my computer, which caused a popup everytime I got a page that couldn't be displayed, and I had to dig deep into the computer to get that out. So deleting or moving the files may not solve the problem.

Doesn't Ad-Aware scan the registry too? They'll delete that particular file/line in the registry and then you'd get this annoying warning everytime you reboot that tells you so-and-so file is missing from the registry.

It turns out I had spyware as soon as I installed my new hard drive.
I downloaded something called CWShredder v1.56.2. It seems to work well for me. Slowly my computer is getting back to normal.

I'm getting my new harddrive installed and it should be ready tomorrow as soon as I get my new power supply. Luckily, I don't have internet on that computer. Heh...
