As previously reported by members of this board - here now is the official CHUM-FM press release:
"North American Top 40" With New Host Ryan Seacrest
Debuts On CHUM FM January 9th
TORONTO, January 7, 2004 - CHUM Radio is pleased to announce the debut of
"North American Top 40" on 104.5 CHUM FM. The weekly pop countdown show
will broadcast Friday nights from 10:00pm - 2:00am starting Friday, January
9th.
"We're excited about partnering with Premiere Radio Networks and Ryan
Seacrest to bring 'North American Top 40,' one of the longest running radio
shows, to Toronto," said Rob Farina, Program Director, CHUM FM. "The show
is a perfect fit for us and with another edition of 'American Idol' on the
horizon, it's great to have Ryan Seacrest on CHUM FM's lineup."
As part of CHUM's partnership with "North American Top 40," CHUM FM DJ Cory
Kimm will become a Toronto correspondent. Kimm will cover Toronto's local
music and entertainment scene bringing a new Canadian component to the show.
Radio veteran Casey Kasem has been counting down the hits and fulfilling
long-distance dedications since 1970 with "American Top 40." Ryan Seacrest,
the 28-year-old L.A. DJ and host of "American Idol," was recently named
Kasem's replacement for what will be a newly revamped "North American Top
40" featuring interactive contests and live performances.
Ryan Seacrest recently hosted the 2003 Billboard Music Awards and is also
set to launch a daily television show, "On-Air with Ryan Seacrest" on Fox
later this month.
I guess this will be a cut and paste show with CanCon inserted here and there. Who knows. I wonder if CHUM will pull a Star94 and remove the hip-hop. Then again, the show starts at 10pm - maybe they won't. HOT 89.9 Ottawa has chosen to air the "American" version.
