No Surprise!!! I knew this was coming. However, I thought Clay Aiken would have the first #1. There's still a slim chance.
This is Premeire's answer to MTV's Weekend Top 20 Countdown with Damien. Instead of John Norris doing the entertainment news either celebrity guests of Mr. Seacrest will give it a shot or another KIIS LA DJ.
The "On The Air" TV show is a rip-off of TRL--right down to the glass windows. East Coast vs West Coast here we go!!!
What a shame AT40 is swepted into the mess. At least, the young female listeners will be very happy.

This sounds like the show is going to the faithful AT40 followers, looking them in the eye and reciting lines from the Eamon song.

Don't we get enough pointless all-request shows from Rick Dees? Nonetheless, I'm still planning on listening to Ryan's first show just to sate my curiousity. But if he's going to do this sort of thing all the time, then I'm afraid my AT40 days are numbered. Guess I'll start scouring the stations in my area to see if anyone carries AT20.

I saw Ryan Seacrest on Larry King last night. He said that American Top 40 with him as host will debut this coming weekend.

So it's not about the charts anymore. Just gossip. :( Don't we get enough of that from crappy Entertainment Tonight?

I never expected it to go this far. I certainely won't be listening to it if it is as bad as it sounds.

Who said the show was turning into gossip? From www.at40.com : Join me the weekend of January 10th for the all-new American Top 40. I'll be counting down the hits for you every weekend and mixing it up with news, gossip and interviews from the whole world of entertainment.

In other words, AT40 will become like Rick Dees' show, except for the fact that Dees will still use an official chart source. I'll definitely be tuning in to Rick more than AT40 form now on.

That's the one Casey would have used on the weekend of Jan. 17, 18th. What would Casey have played this coming weekend Jan 10, 11?? All requests?

Not sure where KIIS got their info about this weekend being "all request", but according to a member on Rob Durkee's message board:
I've traded shows with this guy before, so I tend to believe him. Guess I'll be waking up at the buttcrack of dawn this Saturday to hear it for myself... hopefully they'll be using the Mediabase chart that finalized this past Sunday (R&R chart date 1/9).

That's probably the only flaw with Casey's AT40. You never hear more than 3 songs before a commercial break.

Ah, sanity has prevailed.
Remember, KIIS can market the countdown any way they choose. If they think calling it an "all-request" countdown is going to get more listeners, that's what they'll do. The vast majority of listeners wouldn't know the difference between a Mediabase chart and a request chart.

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but methinks they're going to use the Mediabase chart for the first show, only. Why do I think this? Well, if the official AT40 site isn't going up until January 9, how is anyone going to be able to request songs before the show is produced? The all-request deal is probably going to start with the January 17 show, or maybe even the January 24 show, if not enough requests show up on the site by then. Either way, I'm going to go to the later church service for the next few weeks to see how things turn out (AT40 runs from 6 to 10 am Sunday mornings on Kiss FM in Chicago).

Well, crap. I just saw a copy of the cue sheets myself, and the fact that there are several recurrents on the chart (including "Bring Me To Life", "Unwell", and "In Da Club"... all of which went recurrent some time ago) makes it clear that this ain't the official Mediabase chart anymore. At first I thought maybe it was the official chart with the recurrents in their proper places, but "Into You" is at #28, way higher than it would be on the "sans recurrent rule" chart. Poopie. >:(
Edit: Just noticed something strange... "Stand Up" by Ludacris is listed as an EXTRA in the second hour (after #26), but it's also at #5 in the countdown. So confused... ???

I'm hoping they use the requests just as an extra feature during the countdown. For example: That was #25, "My Immortal" by Evanescence. It's also this week's most requested song, as voted by you, the listeners, on our website, www.at40.com. Here's how the rest of the Top 5 stacks up (he reads #2-#5). Now, on with the countdown...

Today's Carson's Most Requested Top 41 has three recurrents, "Harder To Breathe" (28), "So Yesterday" (36), and "My Love Is Like... Wo" (39). I used the Top 41 because "Get Low" is in the Top 40 twice and I bumped up the last two of those three songs because they were behind "Get Low" twice. I certainly hope American Top 40 doesn't put the same song in two different numbers. Here are the Most Requested positions for the four recurrents mst3k1 named that will be on American Top 40: 52. "Into You." 62. "Bring Me To Life" "In Da Club" and "Unwell" had 0 points on Most Requested. I increased the song's positions taking out the second appearance of "Get Low." When American Top 40 is posted I'll compare it to Most Requested. Then I'll make a poll comparing the R and R chart, American Top 40, and Most Requested. Outkast (Numbers 4 and 5), Britney Spears (Numbers 21, 22, and 32), and Hilary Duff (Numbers 34 and 36) have multiple appearances in the Most Requested Top 40, again combining the multiple appearances of "Get Low."

I don't mind them using a different countdown. When Casey did it for that brief time, it made listening alittle more fun because you never knew what would happen. Just as long as the countdown is actually based on a credible source!

A couple more interesting tidbits off of Rob Durkee's message board: So it seems AT40 will be using Mediabase but not R&R. That is, AT40 will have it's own reporting panel (kind of like what Carson Daly or Radio Disney have). Thus, there's probably an AT40 page on Mediabase somewhere. Any of you "Mediabase gurus" out there interested in figuring out the URL? Also, for anyone who can't wait 'til tomorrow, I found out that you can tune in to the show tonight at 10:00 P.M. EST on CHUM. www.chumfm.com/music/ListenLive.asp

Well, here are the top 10 Australian singles of the year as reported by ARIA: 1 ANGELS BROUGHT ME HERE Guy Sebastian 2 LOSE YOURSELF Eminem 3 WHERE IS THE LOVE Black Eyed Peas 4 BORN TO TRY Delta Goodrem 5 IN DA CLUB 50 Cent 6 BRING ME TO LIFE Evanescence 7 LOST WITHOUT YOU Delta Goodrem 8 THE KETCHUP SONG (ASEREJE) Las Ketchup 9 NU FLOW Big Brovaz 10 IGNITION - REMIX R. Kelly The only one that makes sense to bring back is "Where Is the Love" (and maybe "In Da Club" since it's still around #32 on the sans-recurrent rule list). And obviously, the two droppers that were referred to are "The First Cut Is the Deepest" and "Addicted". Right now the AT40 site still isn't up yet.

Assuming the cue sheets are valid, there's actually seven recurrent songs returning to the countdown, along with two more songs that just went recurrent this week on R&R (but appeared on AT40 last week). Only one new song actually debuts.
