Hi guys! I'm collecting suggestions for considering for the final nomination list for the 2006 Pulse Music Awards. Basically, all that needs to be done now is for anyone and everyone to submit songs, artists and albums to the respective categories. There is no limit to the number you can suggest because, as I said, this is the suggestions period and basically, the more songs/artists/albums to choose from, the better because it will represent a wide range of artists for each category.
So I'm going to post the categories that are significant to this forum and you can either PM me or reply to this topic your suggestions. I don't have a set deadline yet but I'm thinking maybe around the end of November.
Here are the categories:
Best Latin Artist Any artist that fits the Latin formats and that had major/minor success on the Latin charts from October 2005-September 2006
Best Latin Song Any song that peaked within the range of October 2005-September 2006 on the Latin charts.
Best Latin Album Any album that was released between the first week of October 2005 to the last week of September 2006 that fits the Latin genres.
I'm also looking for people who's expertise and main musical interest lies within the realm of the Latin formats and genres who would like to help with choosing the nominees for these three awards. Basically, what you will have to do is go through the entire list of suggestions made and choose your favourite 10, put them in rank order for 1 to 10 and the Top 5 (give or take 2) will make it on the official nomination list. If you're interested, reply here or PM me.
Here is a link to the main topic that lists all of the other categories if you are interesting in submitting suggestions to those as well: pulsemusic.proboards48.com/index.cgi?board=opinion&action=display&thread=1163296432
Thanks! :)

The following nominees the artists and music that I listened to all year long. I hope some of these make it to the final list.
Best Latin Artist:
* Calle 13 The Puerto Rican duo finally gave some credibility to the reggeaton genere in my book. Unlike the majority of that genre's biggest names, these guys actually have something important to say. Their deep and interesting lyrics, combined with irresitably catchy beats made them quite popular with my cd player.
* Coti Sorokin It's taken the US Latin audience years to realize what Spain and Argentina have known for years: Coti is one of the best singer/songwriters in the spanish market. His water-down duet with alt-pop queen Julieta Venegas and the bland Paulina Rubio was a hit that spanned the Spanish speaking globe. While I was not the biggest fan of that track, if it helped more people discover Coti's great music, then I'm completely fine with that.
* Julieta Venegas It took her 3 years for Venegas to follow up the breakout album SI, which turned her into a household name. LIMON Y SAL is a success on so many levels. It's complex and interesting without being pretentious. It's fun without being silly, and most importantly it's a very well produced record by the great Cachorro Lopez.
Best Latin Song: * Thalia featuring Romeo - "no, no, no" When it comes to truly great pop music, nobody does it better than Thalia. Uniting forces with one of Latin music's hottest rising stars could only result in one of the year's hottest and most addictive tracks. "No, no, no" is a ballad for the ages that undoubtedly will stand the test of time.
* Calle 13 - "atrevete-te-te" This was the definitive reggeaton song of the year. Anyone who wants to contradict this is simply kidding themselves. From it's tremendously catchy beats to the quirky lyrics (shoutouts to Quentin Tarantino, Mana, and Coldplay were a hoot!), this song turns out to be an instant modern classic.
* Alejandro Sanz - "a la primera persona" Ladies and gentlemen, he's back. He may have gained more fans by skewing to the popular flavor of the month (reggeaton) but longtime Alejandro Sanz fans know that he is best at dark, moody ballads. "A la primera persona" is not only one of the best songs of the year, but one of San'z greatest records to date.
Best Latin Album: * MEMO REX Y EL CORAZON ATOMICO DE LA VIA LACTEA by Zoe The best rock en espanol album of the year by far. Mexican band ZOE created a complex album that you can listen to from start to finish. While they may not be as popular as some of their Mexican counterparts, this album shows that these talented guys are in it for the long haul.
* OYE by Aterciopelados After a 5 year hiatus (yikes!), the Colombian duo returned to the alt-rock en espanol scene with OYE. This album is a fine return to the band's punk/folk roots of their early productions. With a mix of political critique, and fun catchy material like the first single, "complemento" OYE is a satisfying accomplishment from one of Colombia's greatest bands.
* ESTA MANANA Y OTROS CUENTOS by Coti When it comes to great pop/rock, few do it better than Coti Sorokin. This live recording is one of the best albums of the year that spans Coti's previous two albums. It also include 3 new tracks and collaborations from Julieta Venegas, Josemi Carmona, and Ismael Serrano.
I too, wish to be part of the panel that will choose the nominees. Just Holla!
