I'm surprised 'Happy Baby' is still hanging in for all of Canada. The followup to that song is going to be 'On And On', a remake of Crash Vegas' song if anyone remembers it. I KNEW it sounded familiar.
There's no good singles coming out anymore, from what I remember. Here's what's coming according to CDPlus in the next month or so: Chingy - Holidae In (2 Tracks) 2/10/2004 Erasure - Oh L Amour (3 Mixes) (6 Tracks) 2/10/2004 Goldfrapp - Train (4 Mixes) (6 Tracks) 2/10/2004 Jones, Norah - Sunrise (2 Tracks) 2/10/2004 R.E.M. - Animal (2 Tracks) (W/ 1 Live Track) 2/3/2004 R.E.M. - Animal (3 Tracks) (W/2 Live Tracks) 2/3/2004 Westside Connection - Gangsta Nation (2 Tracks) 2/3/2004 Air - Cherry Blossom Girl (2 Mixes) 1/27/2004 Dido - White Flag (1+ Tracks) 1/27/2004 Air - Cherry Blossom Girl (2 Mixes) 1/20/2004 Atomic Kitten - If You Come To Me (2 Tracks) 1/20/2004 Evanescence - My Immortal (2 Mixes) 1/20/2004

"Happy Baby" has been flirting with the Top10 for several weeks now, entering and re-entering every now and then. Interestingly though, it has never peaked higher than #10.
You make an excellent point. The industry promised to bring the single back 18 months ago and they aren't really living up to their promise. Sure there are a lot more singles than 2 years ago, but there is still substantial room for improvement. And even compared to a year ago, there are less single releases right now. Perhaps the industry is focussing on paid digital downloads. We now have 2 sites in Canada, and 3 more are on the way. Once they are all up and running, I believe SoundScan will start counting them towards the chart.

No. ;) Surprisingly, there's not really much about them out there. I'm quite surprised the song even made it to the top 10 in the first place.
Shaye is comprised of Tara McLean, Damhnait Doyle and Kim Stockwood.

A good chunk of the audience chart's points come from Toronto (obviously because it has the largest population). If a song is being played on both CHFI and EZ Rock, as well as CHUM-FM, it has a good shot of making the Top10.
I like Kim Stockwood's music. "You And Me" was one of my favourites from her. She did a terrible job as host of last year's pre-juno red carpet show though. I felt uncomfortable watching her. Approaching Alanis like a stalker was embarrassing. She's no Jann Arden, that's for sure.

I like "Happy Baby" as well.
I guess the song's success is rooted in its multi-format appeal. I hear it mostly on my local AC station and a nearby Hot AC station. I wish my local CHR/Pop station would play the song.

Kim is great! She's not too deep with her music. She makes it fun and enjoyable to listen to. Shaye's stuff is similar to what Kim is like. I heard their new song on the radio today! :)

Happy Baby is a guilty pleasure of mine. Great AC track. It's cool you remember Crash Vegas, Ax. Did you enjoy Tara MaClean's song/video for "If I Fall" as much as I did? It should have made her a star. Too bad.

When I first 'On And On' from the CD when I bought it, the song TOTALLY sounded familiar but I couldn't place it. Someone mentioned Crash Vegas a few weeks back and then I remembered it! I heard it again today!
One thing about Shaye that I don't much like is how the songs are done. They do stuff in order too much and it sounds like one of those 'We Are The World'/'Do They Know It's Christmas' type dealies. The best song in terms of arrangement is the last track.
'If I Fall' was a GREAT song! I love it! It should have been bigger than it was!
