Mariah Carey released her album Merry Christmas in 1994.. and with it came the Top 10 Mainstream single, "All I Want For Christmas Is You" AIWFCIY still continues to be a hot holiday hit on various radio stations! Yay for Mariah! Hi Josh!

Billboard Hot 100 Singles: #83 Billboard Hot 100 Airplay: #12 Billboard Adult Contemporary Singles: #6 Billboard Rhythmic Top 40 Singles: #14 Billboard Top 40 Mainstream Singles: #9 Billboard Adult Top 40 Singles: #27
It didn't hit the Hot 100 until 1998 because up until then non-commercially released songs couldn't chart but it actually gained enough airplay to make #83 as soon as it was allowed. Had it been able to chart in 1994, it may have even made it as high as the 50's.
The song is great. It's a Christmas classic and is always the Christmas song with the most airplay ever year.
The song was reminiscent of the Phil Spector girl group Christmas song sound and that's why it's so successful. It's a contemporary classic!

I heard about songs debuting after they had still peaked but while they were currents. Has any song ever taken longer to debut? Why didn't they release a single in 1994? You said she has the best selling Christmas album of all-time. Why didn't she try to have the best selling Christmas single of all-time? Does anybody know any famous Christmas songs that had singles? Christina Aguilera and Faith Hill are the only artists who I remember seeing making the Billboard Hot 100 with a Christmas song, and neither was recently. NewSong: "The Christmas Shoes" may have charted also.

Why didn't they release a single in 1994? It would have taken away from album sales. A lot of people buy the album just for this track.

Did it make it to #12 on Hot 100 Airplay in 1994? If it did, then it would have charted much higher than the 50s on the Hot 100. Probably, in the same range 10-15.
Anyway, the song is flawless.

I've always enjoyed this one. Did it make it to #12 on Hot 100 Airplay in 1994? If it did, then it would have charted much higher than the 50s on the Hot 100. Probably, in the same range 10-15. Yes, it was technically early in 1995 though. Also, I don't have it entering the Hot 100 until 2000.

Maybe it wouldn't have made 10-15. I forgot that in '94, virtually every song had a single, so this song would have been at a disadvantage. Probably would have peaked around #30 since all the other songs would have had airplay and sales points.
If it made #12 in airplay today though, it would peak around the same on the Hot 100.

Most Xmas songs annoy me, but this one really puts me in a good mood, the Christmas spirit and all that.

Does anybody know any famous Christmas songs that had singles? Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas'... the second biggest selling single of all time!

One of the few Mariah singles I can stand, probably because it's not syrupy, oversung cliche ridden MOR horror.
I'd even go as far as to say this is a genuine classic.
If you're wondering, 'Fantasy' is the only other Mariah single i'd say I loved, but i can tolerate some of her others

Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas'... the second biggest selling single of all time! Also, "The Chipmunk Song" by the Chipmunks... if I'm not mistaken, the only Christmas single to hit #1 on the pop chart during the rock era! I love Mariah Carey's song... hit #1 on my personal chart during its first year of release.

When I first hear the title, I think of "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth."

This is a great Christmas song. Thinking about it, this is probably my favorite modren Christmas song Im actually liking whoever covered the song for the Love Actually movie's rendition of this song more. That young girl did a good job singing it. I have the soundtrack and her voice is stellar.

Even though I really dislike Mariah, this song is amazing. She sounds wonderful on it and it's very catchy. I bought her album just for this one. I love in the beginning how it starts slower and builds into the song.

The best Christmas song to come out in the last 25 years hands down. Ranks right up there with the all-time classics.

I love it. The first Christmas classic of our time! I also think that along with Hero, this has become her "signature" hit.

I totally agree….a timeless Christmas classic... Financially speaking, this has got to be her most successful record. Mariah will be collecting royalties from this song for the rest of her life
