Many years ago I used to think Cyndi Lauper was singing it.
I can't see Madonna doing a Christmas album in this stage of her life.

It's not doing that great in digital sales thus far compared to other years. Last I saw, its total was at 85,000 or so.

I like it.
I don't like the idea of Madge doing a Christmas album though.

While Madonna does a cute Eartha Kitt impersonation on this track it obviously does not come close to the success or renown of the perennial holiday hit All I Want for Christmas is You

While Madonna does a cute Eartha Kitt impersonation on this track it obviously does not come close to the success or renown of the perennial holiday hit All I Want for Christmas is You Unlike AIWFCIY, Santa Baby was not recorded with the intent of commercial success or airplay longevity. It was a one-off for a charity record (Special Olympics). Madonna's is one of dozens of covers of this song (some much better, some much worse), and the only reason her version still receives airplay is because she's Madonna.

^Exactly. Not sure why someone compare it to AIWFCIY, anyhow.

Yeah- and it was more Betty Boop than Earth Kitt, anyhow. A lot of the other covers stay true to Kitt's version, but Madge approached it a little differently.
Not sure if all saw it, but "Santa Baby" was at No. 52 for last year's top-performing holiday tracks in the October 5-January 3 period. It was the fourth-highest-ranked from A Very Special Christmas (eight tracks from the album featured).
99. Merry Christmas Baby, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band (1987) 88. Christmas In Hollis, Run-D.M.C. (1987) 66. The Little Drummer Boy, Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band (1987) 55. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, John Mellencamp (1987) 52. Santa Baby, Madonna (1987) 46. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), U2 (1987) 40. Do You Hear What I Hear, Whitney Houston (1987) 33. Winter Wonderland, Eurythmics (1987)

Madonna's version is the best. It is uptempo and fun and it was recorded for charity 24 years ago. I love the video this person made for the song.

Yeah, that's a cute video.
What wasn't noted prior is that Madge based her version on Kitt's more uptempo version (recorded 120 years after the original). Madge puts her stamp on it, though and, all in all, it's a playful interpretation.

The 1987 album is certified for 4 million units; for week ending 11/13, the album scanned 668 units (up 96% from the prior week). Its SoundScan total stands at 2.46 million. There's also a release that contains the first two, that has scanned around 12K.

Oh very cool. They have a few volumes out now of "A Very Special Christmas," but Volume 1 (Madonna's Santa Baby), was the only volume that was stocked last week at my Best Buy. I was excited to see that. Glad it's still selling, money for the kiddies!

LOL Well, it is a charity record. The first edition overall is the best by far.

I heard this baby a couple of times while out and about during the holiday weekend. It's definitely getting some air play.

It gets most of its play at AC, but it's not comparable to the amount of play other tracks get there. The week of Christmas, we should see it in the top 10 on Pop Golds, if past years are anything to go by.

^ Thanks, Holidayguy!! Not bad for a non-single that belongs to a charity album that was released 24 years ago. Yay!
