I downloaded the Origin version of 'My Immortal' and I like it! There are some lyrical differences and stuff too. It's great! I also got: Away From Me Fields Of Innocence Even In Death Demise Eternal Anywhere October Where Will You Go I Believe In You Imaginary The Last Day

And now it's time for the resident Evanescence expertΒ ;)
Actually the lyrical differences in My Immortal are the original version of My Immortal. The original version is not on Origin.
The only difference between the Origin and the Fallen versions is the string arrangement in the Fallen version.
There are actually 7 versions of My Immortal from what I've listened to.
Piano-Vocal (original) Origin Mystary (promo that came out before Fallen) Fallen Acoustic Band version with strings Band version without strings
I've recently started listening to the Origin version. It's amazing. I prefer the Origin version to Fallen because it showcases David Hodges' piano skills, Amy's voice and Ben's little guitar solo, too. The strings on Fallen get in the way.
Origin is a great little album. Matter of fact, most of the fans say that it's better than Fallen.
Fields of Innocence is my favorite pre-Fallen song.
The Last Day=So Close I Believe in You is just an earlier version of Taking Over Me.

Is 'Eternal' an instrumental? And is 'Demise' supposed to be a 1:36 instrumental too? What's the 'Origin' tracklisting?

Evanescence's previous label Big Wig Enterprises released Origin in 2000. Here's the track listing from one of the best fansites around dedicated to the short history of Evanescence: www.exodusevanescence.comTrack Listing: 1. Origin 2. Whisper 3. Imaginary 4. My Immortal 5. Where Will You Go 6. Field of Innocence 7. Even In Death 8. Anywhere 9. Lies 10. Away From Me 11. Eternal The CD went out of print in February of last year. Don't spend your money on a $300 fake. Eternal is a 7 minute instrumental (I call it the cell phone grooveΒ :) ). I think Demise might just be the end of Eternal. October dates back to 1997-98. It was before they released their first demo the Evanescence EP.

So where do 'October', 'The Last Day' and 'I Believe In You' come in?

The Last Day is actually called So Close. That was a part of the demos that they recorded for Wind-up in 2001-02 a little after they got signed. Will Boyd, Ben Moody and a guy named Matt Outlaw wrote it.
I Believe in You is a 2001-02 demo like So Close. That is an earlier version of Taking Over Me. John LeCompt wrote a bulk of that song.
October as I mentioned earlier is one of their earliest songs on record dating back to 97-98. There are no exact years, just what they recorded during a certain span.

I loved the Origin material-better than their debut to me.

Hmmm, I downloaded 'Origin' but it's the same thing as 'Whisper', which I downloaded.

I loved the Origin material-better than their debut to me. A lot of people say that. I think that's actually a good thing though. A lot of people were turned off to the way that Fallen sounded all processed and too polished. They were also turned off to how tracks sounded same-ish. That's not a problem with Origin. Origin and previous works have much different sounds. They mixed electronica, rock, and pop in most of their earlier songs, which is not something that you hear as easily in their music now. Origin is actually a 35 second sound clip featuring old horror movie clips. It's a nice segue into Whisper.

There's a cool early version of Bring Me to Life that doesn't have Paul McCoy but features a nice electronica feel to the song and a guitar solo by
<--------that guy.

I have all of the old Evanescnece material downloaded. That includes all of the EP's, Origin, and some Demos and remixes. I love all of it more than Fallen. It just has a more raw sound and it really gives you a feel of what Evanescence is all about. Origin seems more like a complete album. Fallen is more a collection of songs than a well-rounded album.
Have you heard Missing yet, Mike?? It's one of my favorite unreleased songs.

Missing actually was released, but as a part of an import single. It was in the Bring Me to Life Austrailian single along with Farther Away. That should have been on Fallen.
There's also a really good song to check out called Listen to the Rain. Amy Lee the self-proclaimed choir geek wrote the song for her high school chorus. It's a good song, just not radio material of course. It was an Origin outtake.

The best songs are: "Lies" (everything I'd expect out of a band with their appearance. It's loud, it's dark, and the chants are awesome.) "Field Of Innocence" (If there's anything wrong with this one, it's that it sounds a little bit like an 80's song, but it's a beautiful song either way you look at it, and Amy's voice really shines through. This song set the standards way too high for themselves when it comes to slow songs, and it kicks "My Immortal"'s ass in all areas.) "Away From Me" (Another song with excellent melodies, uptempo but still piano driven, and has some electronic aspects to it. I wish there would have been a song like this on Fallen
There's also "Even In Death", which sounds really weird out of the studio, but played live, it was impressive. They played that one at both of the concerts I attended last summer, so maybe it'll be included on their next album.

I agree with you on Even in Death. I think that'd be first or second single material for their next album if there were a studio version of the way they do it live...
There's another song that I'd expect to see on their next album called Breathe No More. It was written by Amy. It's a good song, although I'm not sure if it's single material.
I've been looking in the mirror for so long that I've come to believe my soul's on the other side
All the little pieces falling shatter shards of me too sharp to put back together.
Those are the first few lyrics of the song.
And yes, Fields definitely set a standard for their music.
I forgot to mention that the earlier demos before Origin such as Give Unto Me and Exodus are two good tracks featuring Amy on the piano. David Hodges came in just before Origin and left before Fallen.

Have you heard Missing yet, Mike?? It's one of my favorite unreleased songs. That wasn't there, no. I'll prolly burn all of the early material to a CD once I get more.

I'd like to add a couple of recommendations.
#1 Before the Dawn-another one of my favorite early Evanescence songs. It has a completely different vibe from most Evanescence songs. It sounds more like an Enya song.
#2 Anything for You-the guitar riff sounds like something you'd hear out of a Fefe Dobson song. Catchy and effective.

Waaa!Β I feel like the only Ev fan to not have listened to the Origin album.Β I feel so shut out.Β :'(
The only "Origin" songs I've been able to download are: Field Of Innocence Away from Me Where Will You Go (one of my favs) Even in Death Lies
They're good, but I think my fav. from Ev's work has got to be Missing.Β Why wasn't that one put on Fallen, damn it! Stupid label decisions.Β >:(
BTW, Imaginary, I'd really like to download Anywhere, I know it's a type of love ballad from Origin. Is it good?

It's very good. Another very different sound from Evanescence than Fallen.
In an Evanescence message board interview with Ben Moody who wrote most of it, hates Anywhere. His favorite work from Origin is Fields of Innocence.

Track Listing: 1. Origin 2. Whisper 3. Imaginary 4. My Immortal 5. Where Will You Go 6. Field of Innocence 7. Even In Death 8. Anywhere 9. Lies 10. Away From Me 11. Eternal That's the tracklisting, but there's pretty much no way you can get an original copy. You could go on EBay, but that's very risky...and expensive. You're much better off downloading it. However, I don't know where to since it's been a while since I downloaded their songs.
