New topic time!
Can "Leave (Get Out)" become the second song to reach 9000 spins on a final update this year?
Spin peaks for other #1s: 9386 "Hey Ya!" 8480 "The Way You Move" 8455 "With You" 8719 "Toxic" 8953 "Yeah!" 8901 "This Love" (while at #2 behind "Yeah"'s 8953 total; peak spins while #1: 8794) 8962 "The Reason" 8910+ "Leave (Get Out)"

Yeah, Leave could definitely surpass 9000 spins.
What other songs reached 8000 spins without reaching #1 this year?
The only one I can recall is My Immortal. . .

"Burn" was over 8000 for 3 weeks, peaking at 8161 on June 18th.
"My Immortal" hit 8084 on March 19th.

When you say second highest spin peak, do you take into account the number of stations on the pannel? Wouldn't a song that peaked at 8850 spins and had 120 stations be a bigger accomplishment than a song that peaked at 8900 spins but had 122 stations?

If you meant a song with 8850 spins and 120 stations playing it is a bigger hit than one that's out at the same time with 8900 spins and 122 stations playing it, no. But if you meant a song with 8850 spins at a time when there were only 120 stations on the entire panel is a bigger hit than one with 8900 spins when there were 122 stations on the entire panel, yes, the 8850-spin is a slightly bigger hit. But I don't have records on changes in panel size, and they only change by 1 or 2 stations a month maybe, so it's negligible.

I meant the second one...but now you bring up an interesting point about your first option. Has that ever happened before? A song peaked at #2 because not enough stations were playing it even though it had great spins?

Yes, before the rhythmic explosion of the early 2000s, some rap/R&B songs probably could have hit #1 had the more Hot-AC leaning stations added them.

"My Immortal" was denied because of "Toxic". And when the time comes for me to do my version of this year's charts, "Toxic" will be denied because of "My Immortal"

So far Jojo has not crossed the 9000 spin mark. In fact, she is just under the 8950 spin mark and her gains are decreasing. I know Usher did eclipse the 9000 spin mark mid-week but then slipped back below it before the update and then went downhill. Could this be the same for Jojo? Onto other CHR/POP news: Los Lonely Boys are playing the small bullet game as they are trying to hang onto a bullet this week. Good news is that they might be able to squeak out a small bullet this week. The bad news is that it won't help them for top 10 status since they are almost 900 spins behind Britney and Maroon 5 looks to take over the top 10 spot vacated by Ms. Spears. After that, Alicia Keys, Avril, & Juvenile will all push Los Lonely Boys back down, with a bullet or not. Nelly continues to rack in +1000 spin gains so far this week. This shouldn't be too surprising since (a) it's a comeback hit for the artist and (b) the song is R&B/hip-hop. For the first time in a long time, there is decent competition brewing in the 25-40 spots with Ryan Cabrera, Houston, Lil' Flip, & Linkin Park raking in over 400 new spins and other songs by Finger Eleven and Kimberely Locke making decent strides. And hurray for Counting Crows who are continuing the +100 gains and holding their own on a chart not too friendly to their "age" any longer. And lastly, hurray for Kelly Clarkson who is raking in adds and new spins for a fantastic new song. I listened to it for the first time last night and I love it. Way to go the TRUE AMERICAN IDOL!

I sure hope it doesn't spend that long up there!
At least it came too late in the year to earn enough points to become top song of the year. As much as I dislike "Yeah!", I am sooo getting sick of this song.

Jojo's spin total is down 2 spins from yesterday morning's update. Looks like the 9000 spin mark is slipping further away from her with each passing day.

A lot of #1's do this all the time. They lose their bullet and then regain them. I remember this happened to "The Reason". At one point when it was #1 it lost it's bullet and then the following week it regained it to a whopping +250 or so. Glad "My Happy Ending" is doing well because it is a catchy song. I don't think it's #1 material though and i am against it going to #1 and i still don't think it will. I think it's a #2. "Confessions Part Two", "Move Ya Body", and "If I Aint Got You" all need to lose their bullets now. They are so old! Ashlee Simpson is trying really hard to be the simpson of the year isn't she? Her sister got a 6 month head start but Ashlee is off with a bang!

At one point when it was #1 it lost it's bullet and then the following week it regained it to a whopping +250 or so. The week that happened was the week after July 4th where undoubtedly July 3rd, 4th and 5th programming reduced the spins of MANY songs on the pop chart (and other charts for that matter). And no, a lot of CHR #1s don't lose a bullet and then regain them the next week. That is more the exception rather than the rule.

I think several people predicted that Avril's success at radio was over. I hope she goes at least top 5 and while she obviously will not get the huge play that Complicated got...shes not doing bad. I am happy that "My Happy Ending" should at least go top 10.

Sorry is his question has already been asked, but why do none of the songs detect leaders or starters?
