The digital era is making some records seem like not so much of a big deal. But, that's the evolution of the biz. Maybe so, but that so called "Glee record" is ridiculous and pointless.

It just says that chart records compared across eras is not appropriate
The 206 chart "hits" are accompanied by another 75 (or so) Bubbling Under
The #2 act of all time if we recognize digital era chart records as equivalent to all other eras

What is the biggest drop off of a # 1 song . I notice that Mariah's "Don't Forget About Us" fell from No.1 to No.7 (6 positions) . Is there a bigger drop 1 to 8? 1 to 9?

There were a few songs back in the 70's that dropped from #1 all the way down to about #15.

Dropping from #1 out of the top 10 doesn't happen much but it happened with regularity in the mid 70s
Biggest drop from number one • 1-15 -Billy Preston— "Nothing from Nothing" (October 26, 1974) • 1-15 -Dionne Warwickeand The Spinners— " Then Came You"(November 2, 1974) • 1-12 -Simon and Garfunkel— " The Sound of Silence" (January 29,1966) • 1-12 -Barry White— "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe"(September 28, 1974) • 1-12 -Andy Kim— "Rock Me Gently" (October 5, 1974) • 1-12 -Stevie Wonder— " You Haven't Done Nothin'" (November 9,1974) • 1-12 -Bachman-Turner Overdrive— " You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet"(November 16, 1974) • 1-12 - John Lennon— "Whatever Gets You thru the Night"(November 23, 1974) • 1-11 -Diana Ross— " Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To)" (January 31, 1976)

The top 10 albums list actually would cover as early as 1956, yes? Billboard quotes 1956 when talking about Elvis' chart stats,
The albums-chart history isn't as cut-and-dry as the Hot 100 (though, we do have the 1955-1958 period that is separate from Hot 100 statistics, that does warrant mention, especially in regards to Presley).

Best Sellers in Stores is the official chart for 1955-1958 on the Hot 100
Best Selling POp albums were 15 deep from 1955-1959
Then came the stereo/mono charts from 1959-193 (mono being the main one)

^But, Billboard doesn't regard the 1955-58 Best Sellers stats when talking about the Hot 100 or Hot 100 stats. :)

:) I'm talking about Billboard itself. I.e. It counts Elvis' No. 1 total as seven when talking about Hot 100 leaders- all of the lists for the Hot 100's anniversaries are tied to, just that, the Hot 100.
Various media outlets may look at Best Sellers and lump it with Hot 100 history, but Billboard itself doesn't regard it as "the official chart for 1955-1958 on the Hot 100."

Oh, I know there are articles out there that reported on it (some erroneusly saying Presley had 17 No. 1s on the Hot 100). And Billboard has posted on it in the past, too- but referred to it as "rock era," rather than "Hot 100." You do see what I'm saying about the Hot 100, right? For instance: www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/5557800/hot-100-55th-anniversary-by-the-numbers-top-100-artists-most-noAll of these stats only incorporate the Hot 100, which began in August 1958. If 1955-1958 activity was incorporated, Presley very well may rank at No. 1 on the artists list. That's why mention has to be made of his pre-Aug. 1958 chart action (which Billboard often does). By the way- how many weeks did Bing Cosby have at No.1? (That was pre-rock era, though.) Anyhow, getting back to the albums- he does have the most charted titles on the albums charts since 1956- he very well may rank No. 1 on an albums acts list, too. Though the Beatles' 20 No. 1 albums could keep him at bay.

Some questions: 1.This week's top 10 was the same as last week's top 10. Is is the first time? 2. Is there a week that all of the BB Hot 100's top 10 have already peaked at #1 or even at least 6 of them

The following albums have produced a #1 single on the Hot 100, but have yet to sell 300,000 copies:
2013- Robin Thicke Blurred Lines "Blurred Lines" (10 weeks) 242,000 2011- Far East Movement Free Wired "Like a G6" (3 weeks) 188,000 2010- Taio Cruz Rokstarr "Break Your Heart" (1 week) 210,000+ 2009- Jay Sean All or Nothing "Down" (2 weeks) 160,000+
Extreme cases of "singles artists" like Jay Sean, Taio Cruz, and Far East Movement are a relatively new phenomenon, but I'm sure there will be more cases in the future.
Robin Thicke will obviously have absolutely no problem passing 300k, but in the meantime he's a part of this club.

How much as Flo Rida's "Wild Ones" album sold? Wikipedia says 300k but the source link for that stat only shows 61,000.
Frankly I'd say he's a forerunner for the ultimate singles-only artist, at least in recent times.

wow at Korn. I remember getting their debut CD as a promo from the music store I managed, and loved it. Then thankfully I got older and wasn't as pissed off as I was in my 20's. ha. can't listen to them at all anymore.

The digital age and featurings really are making it easy for these newer acts to rack up those hits.
Per Billboard:
Most Top 10s on Hot 100 (of course, Presley scored hits prior to the Hot 100's inception)
38, Madonna 34, the Beatles 28, Michael Jackson 28, Stevie Wonder 27, Mariah Carey 27, Janet Jackson 27, Elton John 25, Elvis Presley 25, Rihanna 23, Whitney Houston 23, the Rolling Stones
Most Hot 100 Entries, Female 73, Aretha Franklin 59, Taylor Swift 56, Madonna 56, Dionne Warwick 53, Connie Francis 48, Brenda Lee 48, Nicki Minaj 45, Mariah Carey 45, Rihanna 42, Miley Cyrus 41, Barbra Streisand 40, Mary J. Blige 40, Diana Ross

^Absolutely BB is counting the Hannah Montana entries. A lot of them are like the Glee entries, though- notice that she wasn't ranked in the top 100 acts list.
I count 21 entries credited to Miley Cyrus, and 20 to Hannah Montana. So something's missing.

What kind of hot mess was the fall of 1974? Five weeks in a row where the #1 song dropped out of the top ten? Insane. I wonder what the steepest drop is in the Soundscan era? I remember Lose Yourself dropped to #9, so I think it's a contender. Gettin Jiggy Wit It dropped to #8.

The mid 70s was notorious for being the most inaccurate period in Billboard chart history what with the holding patterns, payola scandals and the chart manipulation of the head chart director.
