Is anyone else getting the feeling that there is simply way too much new songs being released by popular artists this fall? There is huge competition out there from the biggest artists, all wanting a share of radio. I remember this happened in the fall of 2002, when a long roaster of new songs by popular artists were released (Avril Lavigne, Nelly, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Eminem, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez) and in the end it resulted in some of them flopping (Mariah and Christina).
This fall, we have Britney, two Christina songs, Nelly, Eminem, Lindsay Lohan, Destiny's Child, Ashlee Simpson, Usher/Alicia Keys, Gwen Stifani, and possibly even more. Who do you think is going to get lost in this crowd?

"Carwash" wil probably do average for Christina. But "tilt your head back" will be big form nelly and christina. Britneys song is just not good enough. Lindsy will do well, Gwen will do well off hype alone even if her song is garbage. Destinys Child will be the big winners !

I can see Gwen Stifani recieving Beyonce type success with this album/single. Eminem of course will be big, even if it's his worst material. I think DC's song might be a bit front loaded though, after a while it will get old fast and have a quick fall.

Britney - Will be big because it's Britney, and it's lead single and her lead single usually go top 20. Prediction: #8. (But if the publicity gets huge and people like it, #3.
Christina - I can't see 'Car Wash,' doing that well. I'm already burnt out on it. I doubt it goes top 10. Prediction: #14. 'Tilt Ya Head Back,' will be really big and burn out quick. Prediction: #6
Eminem - Top 5. Huge rise will stay for a while then fast fall.
Lindsay - This one will be a song of the moment type of thing. Big rise, bigger fall. Prediction: #9
Destiny's Child - This will be huuuge. But will be held off at #1 for some reason. Or if it hits #1 it will only be for a little while. Prediction: #2.
Ashlee - I see this doing big things. This will last longer and hit the top 5 after a few months. Prediction: #4.
Usher/Alicia - Will probably go to #1 because it's Usher. But could shock and only hit #2.
Gwen - This song, even if it's bad is guarrenteed top 10. Most likely top 5 too. I think this will go to #1 though.

"Car Wash" looks like it's suddenly dying out! It's bullet is down to +283 and it's been losing audience impression. Could this be Christina's biggest flop to date?

Car Wash has already passed my expectations :) Bad Kiddie remake from a kiddie movie and its still a minor hit That's one thing about Christina fans (and other artist fans/fanatics) - they'll always find some excuse for the sub-par performance of one of her singles that they previously hyped up. Car Wash is one victim of this "log jam" we are talking about.Β I wouldn't be suprised if it was bulletless next week. I guess you could also call Hilary Duff's new one a victim of the "log jam".Β It's about to go south. My gut tells me that Lindsay Lohan will do nothing on pop radio, but I haven't heard the song yet.

What? lol. If you go back and look I had this peaking at 30-40...if that. I honestly thought radio would not play it at all. Nice surprise to see it go top 25. FOR ME it has gone past my original expectations. Previously hyped up? Where-I said it was catchy but ??? Honestly I was stunned when people predicted top 10 or even #1 or #2 for this song. Its like..what? And some of these people were not even fans... Im sure Christina haters will scream about how this is her end and its the BIGGEST FLOP OF THE YEAR!!! but I think it did well for a kiddie remake for a kiddie movie-a soundtrack release. :)

There is no reason that all of those songs couldn't hit top ten *if* they were all top-ten worthy. I don't think in 2002 the Xtina and Mariah examples cited had anything to do with a log jam. The only exception IMO would be Xtina's Car Wash because she is competing with herself with a not unsimilar-sounding uptempo song. When deciding between fresh material, duet with Nelly versus cheesy fast-burn-out disco-era cover it's a no brainer for programmers which of the two to drop...
The new DC sounded VERY repetitive upon the first few listens and I still can't decide if I like it or not. Oh well, I think no. 1 for DC is inevitable, because Survivor was also huge and possibly more annoying and repetitive than LMB.

But 'Survivor' was coming off of two previous big #1s plus 'Say My Name', which wasn't a #1 hit but was pretty big anyways. This song is coming off of pretty much only BeyoncΓ©'s material so that's not really much indication of where it will ultimately end up, I wouldn't say.

"Say My Name" was a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100. And reaching all the way to #3 during the teen pop era for an R & B song is a huge acomplishment on Top 40.

That's exactly what I said. DC had three fairly huge singles in a row before 'Survivor', which was probably what helped hype up 'Survivor' the single and album.

He's referring to the CHR/Pop chart which is the forum which you are posting in. Oh i'm sorry. I just thought when someone says "The song never hit #1" they were referring to the Hot 100 since that's the national chart. It's kind of weird to say "The song wasn't a #1 hit" just because it didn't reach #1 on a specific format, but it's okay. To each his own.

I know! That's exactly what I said. DC had three fairly huge singles in a row before 'Survivor', which was probably what helped hype up 'Survivor' the single and album. That is true. But if you look closely you'll realize "Survivor" even though it became an anthem and one of their signature songs, didn't have the same longevity that "Independent Woman" and "Say My Name" had. It was a quickie. I think "Lose My Breath" will head down in that same direction. Their biggest hit was "Independent Woman" and i don't think they'll ever top that.

I agree. However, 'Survivor' was a #2 hit (#1 on AT40) and that was coming off of three big hits. My theory is that that was pretty much mostly hype that got it to #2. 'Lose My Breath' doesn't have as much hype so I'm thinking it won't get as high (not like 'Survivor') nor will it have much longevity (like 'Survivor').

To each his own. i know EXACTLY what u mean. i dont think it matters at all if it hit #1 on a specific format as long as it hit #1 on the Hot 100. Thatw hat really counts but some people like to be specific.

But you're in the CHR/Pop forum. When someone says "it peaked at #4," you can't question the chart. This is the CHR/POP forum. If you want to discuss the Hot 100, go to the music news forum.

I think My Perogative is going to be the biggest flop. I do think that its possible for the GH to do well.

Well, the song is getting tons of early adds and look to make a top 50 debut this week on the pop chart. I guess radio gave it a slight hug... ;)

I am slightly confused as to why everyone is proclaiming this single is now a success after two days-it does not seem to be taking off as fast as MATM and I believe all her singles climbed VERY quickly except for Outrageous. Is this really so amazing?!
