So how did everyone find the latest Decemberists album? I thought it sucked, but it's hard to repeat the genius that is Picaresque.

juhn, stop trying to resurrect this section! but the DEC. album was okay; they aren't necessarily my cup of tea, but I thought it was a solid effort.

I thought the Crane Wife was a great album and it was one of my favorite albums from 2006.

I got it last week and I think it's super awesome! I LOVE 'O Valencia' but there are others that I'm growing into as well including 'Yankee Bayonet', 'The Craine Wife' and 'The Island/Come And See/The Landlord's Daughter' (hmmm, I love the first four tracks, LOL!). Those are the ones I can remember offhand but I know there's another track later in the CD.
I named them my Artist of the Month on my website: www.themaxonline.net/chart

They haven't disappointed me yet. So far, The Crane Wife is #2 on my list of favorites from last year. My favorite songs are "The Crane Wife 3," "Yankee Bayonet" and "Sons and Daughters," but I pretty much love them all, minus "The Perfect Crime #2."

OK but how does it compare with Picaresque and Castaways and Cutouts?

Personally The Crane Wife doesn't match Picaresque, but it's still a fantastic album. I saw them live earlier this year and the new songs they played were absolutely awesome. None of them matched a mass sinaglong to 16 Military Wives or The Engine Driver though

I dunno. I never heard those ones nor did I hear of the Decemberists until this album.

I would've come here sooner, but I haven't stopped by this forum in awhile.
Anyway, Amused to Death is on the mark with the above post:
"The Crane Wife" might not be their very best work, but as excellent as "Picaresque" was, that's okay. I still really liked TCW regardless, so I couldn't say it's a letdown.

I know they're not a singles based band but I want a new song by them to chart on my personal chart and since it is as singles-restricted as I can make it, does anyone know if there will be a second release from 'The Crane Wife' or what it is? They've already had one #1 hit for me!
