They definitely should have taken notes from EMI and the Quintanillas. I know Selena had a different label, genres and circumstance (they've definitely gone overboard with the output of Selena greatest hits too), but the family took a hands on approach with her legacy. They produced the final album, were heavily involved with the biopic (they did it so soon so no other films could be made), and released live DVDs.
The Quintanillas have been in the spotlight and I don't expect Aaliyah's family to do the same. The Haughton's strike me as a much more private unit. But they deserve better than what they've gotten with Blackground and the Lifetime movie. I feel like they got it right with I Care 4 U, but it's been mystery and frustration ever since then.

It's kind of hard when the person holding you back from releasing such things is family himself and a major crook.

That's an unfortunate situation. It's like everything Aaliyah related after 2002 has been controversial and doesn't honor her memory.

None of his music, including albums with Magoo, are available except for his 2 albums done under his own Mosley Music Group label. Same goes for the albums from Toni Braxton, JoJo, and Tank that were released under Blackground Records. Barry and Jomo are just total sh!t shows.

I wanted to avoid this thread today until I saw she's been trending all day on Twitter. The out pouring love has been incredible.

If they could get her songs on itunes and spotfiy for the 15th anniversary, I'll consider that a win.

Had a family picnic over the weekend and ended up bringing some CDs to play. The only one we ended up playing all the way through was her Ultimate Aaliyah collection!

Aaliyah™ by Xyrena is the first and only official fragrance tribute to the Princess of R&B. Developed in close collaboration with Diane & Rashad Haughton (the late singer and actress’s mother and brother), Xyrena crafted a true aromatic tribute inspired by actual fragrances Aaliyah wore. Aaliyah by Xyrena is unisex but leans masculine, as Aaliyah favored traditional men’s scents in line with her signature, sexy tomboy image. The formula is also a hue of black which was Aaliyah’s favorite color. Aaliyah by Xyrena has base notes of vanilla, sandalwood, amber, and jasmine; middle notes of black pepper, violet and leather; with top notes of mint, lavender and mandarin. xyrena.com/product/aaliyahedp/

Love baby girl but...I don't like the idea of a fragance. It is unisex so I will be trying it but...I don't know, is this really necessary? Feels weird..
And they could've chosen a better promo picture.

They need to stop playing and put all of her music back in print. I would love a box set with all of her singles in it.

So her family is not okay with her albums being on iTunes but they ARE okay with a perfume being sold in her name? Okay...

That perfume idea is cute, but I'd rather have her music on iTunes and in CD stores.

I'm surprised the material that Drake and 40 worked on still never "accidentally" leaked.
