I'm creating the poll in this forum because I don't want "people who don't matter" ;) to cast a vote.
Obviously this forum isn't working.
I've been urged to stop trying to resurrect it.
But what are the alternatives at our disposal?
Creating individual threads for each artist will only make them get lost in the shuffle. Unless we do it in Your Opinion Please.
Creating one thread in Music News - it'll be pretty hard to discuss so many different bands in one thread.
Creating several threads based on genre e.g. "The Official Emo Thread", "The Official Indie Electronica Thread"... could work.

Leave the forum open in case someone wants to post here; I, however, will go about things in my own way.

I was thinking. Most artists that go in here could also go in the Triple A forum, right?
If this forum wasn't here, I think people would make up for it with the forums we already have. I'm not sure how Music News could even be separated, honestly. We could have a section for Artist Eras only and then a separate section for music news that isn't artist limited? That way, every artist will get one section (whether it's per-era or just one section per artist) in the artists forum, regardless of label status, while all other music news (grammys, itunes charts, billboard, etc) would go in the music news forum? And specific songs would be in the appropriate place (format forums, opinion forum, non-single/album tracks or nostalgia).
Maybe we could put forth this idea to the noble moderators, what's say you?

That differentiation of Music News sections sounds intriguing. I'm all for it. And I agree, a lot of these artists could go Triple A, but not all. Sometimes I wish we had a proper electronica forum (not like the current "dance" section, which has resigned itself to Kelly Clarkson remixes), but that would probably remain largely unused, as well.
I'm aware this is a primarily mainstream forum, but there ARE many of us whose tastes stray from those dictated by the usual media outlets. And who knows? We could promote these lesser-known acts via forum exposure. A lot of people post here and most some have open minds. :)

I think it would be neat if we could somehow "recruit" new members in the event that other forums would be added like electronica or whatever? However, I think the fact that the format forums are format forums and not genre forums is a drawback to that, because they are based around the R&R format charts and the songs that make it there as opposed to the music itself. This is largely a radio and charts-based board first. I'm not saying that's a bad thing but it does have restrictions in that sense. I think it would be cool though if we could become a central place on the internet where fans of other types of music could come here and post information about those types too, where forums like electronica and indie rock and whatever could have busy discussions. An idea if that were to ever happen would be to create subforums in the dance section, for example, to cater to the many varieties of dance music should there be an explosion of interested members. I personally like the idea that the country forum, for example, has so many regular posters in there that it's like they have their own community in that one forum. It would be cool if some of the other format forums had that too. I should add too that while it would be nice to add some organization to the types of topics around here, I think it does more harm then good to have *too many* forums. I've stumbled upon some interesting message boards that looked cool but they had upwards of 30 or 40 forums and that was really intimidating. It's also especially confusing where there is some crossover too.

What are some other well-frequented indie music boards and can we get those members to come here?

the popjustice forums are comprised of fans of independent artists who also happen to harbor an intense liking for well-crafted pop music (so the chart-oriented nature of this forum wouldn't necessarily scare them off).

And who knows? We could promote these lesser-known acts via forum exposure. A lot of people post here and most some have open minds. :) That's exactly why I say we keep this section. I like being able to read about new artists to check out without having to scroll through a bunch of pop artist threads.
