There were a lot of problems with "Love @ 1st Sight" as the first single. I always thought that if the song didn't leak beforehand, it would have been a bigger hit. It's very easy to say that now since we know what happened, but don't forget AT THE TIME "Ooh!" seemed like THE choice for second single. It had the must buzz out of all the songs on the album, it was acclaimed, the NYC DJ's reacted very positively, and it just seemed like the logical thing to release. Josh, don't mean to blow up your spot, but I distintcly remember when this single was announced, you were praising it to the high hills and said you thought it'd be one of Mary's biggest hits at Urban (I remember this because you saying that on R&R is what made me go and DL the song in the first place lol). LOL...true.

Mary never, ever sucks. Her weakest material is lightyears ahead of her peers. True enough, but it definitely does suck by Mary standards.

Of course I praised "Love @ 1st Sight" to the high hills. I praise all Mary's solo material to the high hills, probably moreso than any urban artist I can name.
...and the single exploded! It had a +1000 bullet at Urban. It wasn't one of her biggest urban hits, but it blew up and went Top 10. That was nothing to cry about. Had she released one of several other tracks, she would have done even better.

it seemed like "ooh" just came and went. where did it peak at rhythmic? Geffen sent out cease and desist letters to BET for the video and stopped pushing it to radio. It was very weird to say the least. "Ooh!" just scraped the Top 20 at Rhythmic.

anyway like i said before duuuuuh @ it being a good thing to profit off the 50 fame. the song was great and had hit written on it with or without 50 being the current hot rapper.

I agree. They seemed to want her to go back to the "You're All I Need" vibe with the first single and "Let Me Be The 1" did a better job at that than "Love @ 1st Sight".

Yea the "Ooh!" situation was REALLY weird...
I liked the remix with G-Unit...Lloyd and Young Buck were on it, I forget if 50 was...
Let Me The 1 was hot...I remember radio playing it months before the album even dropped...
Love @ 1st Sight was pretty good...it was catchy, I remember liking it
"Not Today" was a standout for me, though...I really liked that song

I love Mary, but I was not feeling her last album!
Love @ 1st Sight is OK, but the production and music sound kinda weird. I like the beginning of the song more than anything, when the music is slow and she's singing. I was liking "Ooh!" though, that should've been the lead off single for her album.

The video for "Ooh!" was absolutely horrible. Mary got a lot of flack for it IMMEDIATELY after it premiered on Access Granted, and when she saw the final cut and how bad it was on top of all the negative feedback, she decided that she would first give Sanjii (who did the video for "No More Drama") another chance at editing it, and if the video was still bad, they'd move on to "Not Today." The video was still crap so the moved on.
The first stupid thing was cancelling the single all together when the song was doing so well. The second was Mary doing what she has a naughty habit of doing, and that's riding someone's shit after they produce something hot for her. This time it was a huge mess and the video was horrid. She should have just shot a 2 cent remix video with G Unit to keep it alive, because the grace period between the 2 singles was ridiculous.

The Game must be a big fan of Mary. On his song with Faith Evans, "Don't Need Your Love," there is a sped up sample of Mary's adlibs from the intro of "Not Gon Cry."

Add Raphael Saadiq to the list of producers. lol not a suprise at all. in almost every single interview he did while he was "promoting" the "ray ray" album, he was basically BEGGING mary to work with him. looks like mary is trying to make another "mary" album!

looks like mary is trying to make another "mary" album! This is the only way she's going to gain back full respect and really solidify herself as a soul legend. The last album showed that putting things in reverse and going back to the music that had people calling her nothing more than a wannabe was not the thing to do.

eww no thanks. That is my least favorite Mary album. I'll take another "whats the 411." Classic Mary! the "mary" album is wonderful. when you compare it to all the other albums, it sticks out because unlike the other ones, it isnt filled with heavy sampling and hip hop tracks. it was like the mary "don't forget i am a diva so check out my creative shit" album. she worked with some of the industry's elite to craft some wonderful tracks. While the whole album may not have been a perfect soulful/jazzy j. blige album, it's definitely not a mary album that you can just brush off!

I love every single song on the Mary album except for "Deep Inside" which is one of the worst songs Mary ever recorded.

I wasn't feelin' that one too much, and I also got a little tired of "Give Me You". Other than that, I loved that album. I'm excited about her working with Raphael Saadiq though.
