First single off of their next album due February 12th. I liked the singles off of their last album...I have a feeling this will be a good one.

WPBZ played this on their "Dropping Trout" song of the night where they play a new song and ask listeners if the station should put it into the regular rotation or not. I turned it on about 1/3 into the song and I kept thinking "Who the hell is this? It sounds like Shinedown, maybe Nickelback, Tantric? Who the f**k is this?" The strange thing is that they keep saying "So Happy" throughout the song, but it never occurred to me that it was this song until after it was over and Ross Mahoney (the DJ) said the title.
Anyway, I thought the song was very good and even before people called up, Ross Mahoney said something like "Ok, whoever didn't like that tune just shouldn't deserve to live. That was just plain awesome, so screw anyone who didn't think it was worth hearing." I didn't listen long enough to hear every call, but I know every one of the first 10-15 people said to add it to the regular rotation.

It's not their best, but it's a million times better than "No Surprise". It actually reminds me of "Famous" in a way, only better. Roadrunner also has a 320kbps MP3 of this posted up.

Agreed that this is not their best and that it sounds a lot like a better version of "Famous." Though I didn't Like "Famous" all that much. I guess I'd put this on par with "No Surprise."

sounds a lot like Better Off from the last album. they even said on muchmusic they aren't trying anything odd or different on the album. they're doing what they've always done so anyone that liked them before will like them now. anyone that hated them before will hate them more now. all good, I can't wait to hear the album!!! gasoline was solid.

The album is OK. Not jumping up and down about it, but it's a fun little album.

By far it does. I heard it on the way to work this morning, and obviously having heard it over 100 times now, I knew what it was, but since I was paying attention to being in traffic and not much to the song, for some reason I kept thinking it was some Nirvana song on at the time until they said "That was Puddle Of Mudd..."

Nirvana was definitely more subtle, it just "sounds" like Nirvana.

Well a lot of songs sound like Nirvana. I don't think Nirvana's sound is all that hard to replicate.

If I didn't pay attention to music at all now in days, I could probably name at least ten of the current bands doing decently or better in rock and think it's some rare Nirvana song without a question. Puddle Of Mudd and Seether are the first ones that come to my mind, but there's plenty of others.

Seether is the band that I actually think has come closest out of all post-grunge bands to sounding like Nirvana, but that's just my opinion.

Shaun Morgan's voice just seems to be the most similar to Kurt Cobain's that I can think of. Yeah, I guess I can't think of any other band than Seether that would be the most comparable.

I think for April Fools', a radio station should call all their bands Nirvana.
"That was Nirvana with 'Psycho'. Coming up, Nirvana with 'Rise Above This'".

The only thing is that I think that half of the audience out there wouldn't be fooled ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

I guess it's a little better than "No Surprise," but only because it's a little more mannered and doesn't insult my intelligence quite as much. But still, this is just another one-dimensional, angst-ridden, post-grunge breakup song, putting all the blame on the girlfriend.
Nevertheless, the sound of the song is so painfully done to death that, come December, this song will fit right in there among my worst songs of 2008.

"Make Up Your Mind" and "Nothing Will Come Between Us" were two of the most incompetent rock songs of the decade. "No Surprise" was simply one of the worst rock songs of the decade.
"So Happy" is merely junk, which makes it better than the others. I guess they deserve a little credit for hanging around this long, although that's mostly a matter of good timing on their behalf. Every time Seether scores a big hit...Bam! Here comes Theory of a Deadman playing piggy-back with a new CD.

Personally I think the "problem" with groups like Theory of a Deadman, Nickelback, Hinder, et al, is that none of them are trying to reinvent the wheel here. They are straight up pop-rock bands who make catchy enough music to interest the casual listener of radio. They have all been from the beginning commercial corporate rock bands. They make lots of money and they make their labels lots of money. For every "innovative" band there is always 20 other bands who just make music for sale.
I cant say that I havent liked songs from all the bands mentioned above and the many other clones that have come along. Mostly because I'm not a musician, I dont disect every song for its musical relevance or its lyrical depth. Sometimes , to me, a song is just a song, one that makes me happy when it comes on. So Im not going to rip these bands, but at the same time, none of them ever makes anything that I've ever had lasting love for. I like it for a month or two , get bored and move on. Maybe crash46, calling it junk, is a good way to describe it (if not a little excessive), that its pretty easy to discard after a short period of time. So Happy, only made me slightly happy, for a short period of time.

Hinder, Nickelback, and Seether, while they definitely are not "reinventing the wheel", are at least capable of creating a quality song. And I can respect that. ToaD has just always sounded like third-world music to me. I don't normally hate songs unless they're disgusting and/or they insult my intelligence, and I don't see myself as one who overanalyzes anything (good or bad), but I first heard "Nothing Could Come Between Us" and it stood out as having bad vocals, lame solos, and the music just sounding like filler. I had never heard a song on the radio with such an amateurish feel. Then "Make Up Your Mind" was more of the same.
"No Surprise" was able to shed their aural noviceness, but since the song itself was revolting, it was the worst one yet. Inoffensive songs of theirs are just bland, and sadly, I think that's the peak of their capabilities. They're like two albums behind Seether in terms of ability. Just not ready for the big stage.

I dont really disagree with anything you said. They could definitely be better in many areas, the only song I ever really liked of theirs for more than a few listens was Santa Monica and even that isnt something I can really just pull up and play now.
I think Chad Kroeger "discovered" them just so they would make Nickelback sound even better, lol.

ToaD has just always sounded like third-world music to me. If they sounded like third-world music they'd be the Tea Party and a much better band.
