As for singles, if I had my druthers, "Twisted" for #5 and YWFT for #6. I could live with GOOTT for #5 and IKYW for #6 as well. I had a dream it was going to be TMBIM for #5 last night though. I guess I shouldn't complain, AAG, LN, and JAD were all my choices for single at the time of release and the label agreed. I'd just be in pure euphoric bliss if "Twisted" and "YWFT" were released next.

I think the next single should be GOTT. (I prefer FOTF but GOTT would be a great fall song.) I don't think Twisted or The More Boys I Meet should be singles.
If Last Name has even close the level of success that BHC had, then I would release IKYW to pop.

hey guys-- whoever is planning to see the Dark Knight this weekend- it ROCKED!! It was almost 3 hours long- and it was every bit worth the hype. Heath LEdger was fantastic-- not as funny as Jack Nicholson was for the Joker-- but just as good in his own way. He was more dark and evil then Jack Nickolson was- so they played the role differently, but both were outstanding.
Best of all-- Carrie's Vitamin Water Commercial with 50 Cent is played right before it starts-- and it is supposed to set records for box office numbers this weekend.
So millions of people all over the world will see Carrie on this commercial--- since the movie is a huge box office success all over the world- not just the US.
You can't ask for better promo for Carrie.
I heard several people say-- "hey- that's Carrie Underwood!"...very cool.
Has anyone else had that happen when the commercial came on?

^ it was great. I heard everyone laughing when Carrie went "He's fine" and made that classic funny face she makes. lol
It was so packed in my theater too-- perfect exposure for the commercial and Carrie-- and just in time for the Olympics too. It kind of reminds me of an Olympic type commercial.

Well I dont know in the rest of the world but here I dont think they are going to show that commercial...I have never seen one of them here, they prefer to show commercials about beer (people here die for a cold bear) and other stuff that no one cares about. (At least me lol) Besides that...I want to see that movie , the preview looks great.

I really hope Just A Dream helps her sales for this album. Once the video comes out this song will fly up the charts! Hopefully the sales will follow!

^ Really? I hear everyone talk about LN being the BHC of this album. I hope you are right about JAD though.. It looks like Carrie has a lot of competition in the Pop market with Taylor, so I don't see LN doing AS WELL as it could...
edit: I just don't see JAD being a big cross-over success. I think it will get to #1 on Country, but what song of Carrie's doesn't get to #1 on country these days :) Pop on the other hand, usually doesn't really embrace military/patriotic type songs and with most people at this point being so opposed to the war in Iraq I just don't see this song taking off the way a song like BHC did. I think Last Name was Carrie's one shot this album for a BHC type of song and without that her sales are going to remain low in comparison to her first album. I fear at this point she's going to have a hard time even reaching 2.5 million with this album. It seems that none of her singles have generated much interest in the fans who bought Some Hearts.

^ i don't see JAD "crossing over" per say, but I can see it getting a lot of attention just because of the subject matter....much like JTTW didn't get played on pop, but ask pretty much anyone in America about Carrie Underwood and they would recognize that she had that "jesus take the wheel" song
JAD could be like that, maybe not heard on pop radio, but known by people because of the Carrie notoriety

Good post. I disagree only on one point, I think FOTF could be the crossover hit that some people thought LN might be. While the final chapter on LN has not yet been written, I don't expect it will make much of an impact on pop (I hope I'm wrong). FOTF, however, could do the trick I think. Baring a crossover hit, I agree that 2.5 million will be the likely sales number for CR by the end of this year. (Of course, trying to predict what song will succeed on pop radio is a fools game, so I'll be the first to admit that I don't know what is going to happen.)

With FOTF, it seemed to me like that was the next single when she did it at SNL, but with lukewarm response, so they switched it up to LN. IMO FOTF is the better song with more appeal... I never understood why they switched to LN... If only she could have Taylor's success of Pop then we would be in great shape!
I agree TimeFlies and see what you mean about JAD. If the war wasn't going on I would say that with 100% certainty... Only time will tell how the public reacts to this

^ But Carrie will never remix her songs for pop radio like TS does- so I don't think she will have the success she had with BHC ever again on pop-- unless another song comes out that is so GREAT it crosses boundaries with no need for a remix, like BHC did. I personally think GOOTT could do well on pop and AC...with no need for remixes.. but we may never see another BHC in terms of pop success.
Also-- Taylor is not really doing that great on pop either--- it just seems that way. Teardrops made top 10 like BHC did, but her other songs are sort of stalled despite the remixing. Our Song did not do that well despite the remix, and PTB seems to be going at the same pace as LN right now... LN is doing as well as PTB I think, without a remix.
But LN is not quite BHC so I just hope it can make top 40 on both AC and pop-- get some airplay and exposure, keep her name out there. Even if it doesn't help sales much- the exposure on mainstream radio is key to creating buzz for carrie and showing she was not a one hit wonder with BHC.
I think she should go 3x platinum by the end of the year-- that is what Cary at CF predicted and he is usually right. You have to factor in Christmas sales, JAD, awards shows-- and much more exposure for Carrie in the fall-- with her tour.
Right now Carrie is not doing anything on tv and no promo at all-- so the sales are understandably falling. I think once the JAD video comes out-- if cArrie does some promo for it on talk shows, etc- things might pick up again.
Even if JAD is not a"BHC" crossover success --- it could still be the JTTW of Carnival Ride- and spend numerous weeks at number 1 on country, sell tons of downloads on itunes, and cross over to AC.

She doesn't want or need to crossover to pop radio. People have long impressive careers without ever crossing over so I don't see why she needs to.

Basically, because I didn't even know what 'Vitamin Water' was before Carrie starred that commercial. LOL I think it isn't sold over here. :( [off-topic] : I can't wait to watch the new Batman movie. It's been so hyped. Hope it's worth it. [off-topic 2]: Mate, I used to make this mistake also. I usually said 'beer' when I meant 'bear', and people'd laugh at me like asking 'what?'. LOL But that's ok, I guess. :)

I agree with everything you said. JAD can definitely be a positive impact on sales like JTTW or Sugarland's "Stay" without crossover. It's the most powerful song on the album and very catchy as well. Any pop/Hot AC play and sales of LN is just gravy. As for Christmas sales, I think Carrie will easily sell at least 400 K between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Sales for a lot of albums don't really kick into high gear until four singles have been released (see Fergie) because by then people know it's an album loaded with hits. Plus, Carrie has a great image, she always has super sales for gift-giving holidays.

I did not mean to include a comparison to pop crossover! sorry haha. I agree with everyone else....FotF would be the best crossover. However, I dont understand why everyone is ruling out LN. It is a huge XM/Sirius radio hit...and it doesnt even have an adds date. Radio is slowly but surely adding it to its playlists. we just need to do our job and support her by requesting it!

I think CR will achieve the 3X platinum level by the end of the year. JAD will be the catalyst. Remember folks, JAD is not an anti-war or pro-war song, it's a song about losing someone you love. The fact that this person is killed in war just happens to be the theme. He could've very easily died in a car wreck. But, the writers were smart in bringing in this theme. Everyone has an opinion of this war. This gives the song a better chance of getting heard with more passion. If you're for or against this war, this song's subject is one that both sides can agree on. War is hell.

It is the Carrie thread, but given that you and tsharky have butted heads in the past, it would be better to leave it to me to make sure conversation stays on topic. tsharky, please make sure to check your PMs. You're not in big trouble, but also, please remember that you've been told several times NOT to mention any other artist in this thread (and please check your PMs anyway). I think, considering his posting history and the fact that he has been very respectful of others on this board since joining, jeff was trying to tease light-heartedly the way we might good-naturedly make fun of anyone for a funny typo. But maybe it didn't come off well. I'm sure he, like the rest of us, has tremendous respect for the people who come to Pulse and communicate in something other than their 1st language, as he said.

They communicate really well, which led me to thinking how many American's will dare to post on a message board where English isn't the language used. Yeah I meant beer , thanks. as to the 'bear' vs 'beer' thing, it actually took me a minute or 2 to realize that you meant 'beer' so i had a good chuckle to myself, so i pointed out the typo... it wasnt even a grammatical error anyway, just a typo... I am a teacher so it always pleases me to see people who want to learn important skills to improve themselves, so keep up the learning! i was just teasing you :) so i hope you don't feel discouraged in any way from posting your opinions again i actually think some of the non-native speakers of English here have better reading and understanding skills than some native speakers i have come across (ie when James on carriefans mentioned he may have to close the site down, people went crazy, thinking he said that he is definitely closing it down and calling him all kinds of names)

Tsharky, I see what you're saying about Carrie not remixing her songs but IMO Carrie doesn't really need to remix her songs the way TS does because Carrie already leans heavily toward the more POP side of country whereas Taylor is way more "traditional" country both vocally and song structurewise.
Also in my experience as a county music fan I find that Carrie's affinity for "belting" is much less Reba/Dolly and much more Christina/Mariah. Her performance of BHC on the Grammy's is a perfect example of what I mean. If I didn't know Carrie was a "country" artist watching that performance I'd have thought she was the lastest pop diva, especially the ending where she riffed it to death.
I thought Carrie had truly built up some cache with the people who purchased Some Hearts and that they would defintely be on board for buying Carnival Ride, more so in light of the fact that Carrie didn't veer at all off the path that Some Hearts had established.
Carrie has gotten some great promotion for this album and sales certainly aren't everything but I guess what I'm worried about is that if Carnival Ride can produce 3 (possibly 4+) number one songs and generate that much buzz and still only sell in the neighborhood of 2.5 million what will happen with album #3? It's early to be worried about that I know but at the rate she's going through her singles I think album #3 is coming sooner rather than later.

I disagree with everyone here; I believe that IKYW is the big crossover smash on 'Carnival Ride.'
