This week it was 1994. I thought this would be the week that reflected R&R's shift to PPW tabulation, but I guess Dees shifted to two weeks behind the chart shortly before this episode, so that wouldn't happen until the episode following this one.
4/30/1994 SS: Katy Segal - Can't Hurry the Harvest Extra: Whitney Houston - I Have Nothing 40 Masta Ace - Born to Roll (40) [skipped] Extra: Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit 39 Warren G - Regulate (38) [skipped] 38 Gabrielle - I Wish (35) 37 I to I - The Right Time (34) 36 Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm (31) 35 All-4-One - I Swear (1) 34 Snoop Doggy Dogg - Gin and Juice (28) [skipped] 33 Joshua Kadison - Beautiful in My Eyes (27) 32 Lighter Shade of Brown - Hey DJ (29) 31 Alice in Chains - No Excuses (31) Extra: Sheryl Crow - Leaving Las Vegas 30 Celine Dion - The Power of Love (3) [skipped] 29 Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Mary Jane's Last Dance (10) 28 The Cranberries - Dreams (19) 27 US3 - Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia) (6) 26 Janet Jackson - Because of Love (2) 25 Michael Bolton - Completely (25) 24 Zhane - Groove Thang (14) 23 Rosco Martinez - Neon Moonlight (21) 22 General Public - I'll Take You There (10) 21 Brand New Heavies - Dream on Dreamer (21) 20 Richard Marx - Now and Forever (7) 19 Juliet Roberts - I Want You (16) 18 Bonnie Raitt - Love Sneakin' Up on You (18) 17 Melissa Etheridge - Come to My Window (15) 16 Beck - Loser (16) 15 Babyface - And Our Feelings (15) 14 Toni Braxton - You Mean the World to Me (4) 13 Bruce Springsteen - Streets of Philadelphia (10) 12 R. 40 Masta Ace - Born to Roll (40) [skipped] 39 Warren G - Regulate (38) [skipped] 34 Snoop Doggy Dogg - Gin and Juice (28) [skipped] 27 US3 - Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia) (6) 11 Salt N' Pepa and En Vogue - Whatta Man (4) As we can see, the problem at the time wasn't so much rap music per se, but the type of rap music which made the charts. Little did Top 40 radio's big bosses knew that, by the early 00's, their downfall would be not playing this type of rap.

Thanks for posting that chart! I missed the whole PPW transition since my station in college was no longer airing Casey or Rick. I too am surprised that Rick was 2 weeks behind R&R so early. I didn't think that that would happen until July of '94.

This week it was 1996. A bit of a butcher job this week. For some reason, #31 was not played or mentioned at all. And Sirius somehow repeated the segment for songs 33 and 32 over songs 22 and 21, though the display on my receiver still showed the correct songs.
5/11/1996 SS Adam Clayton & Larry Mullen - Theme from Mission: Impossible 40 2Pac & Dr. Dre - California Love [skipped] Extra:Kenny Wayne Sheppard - Deja Voodoo 39 Gloria Estefan - Reach 38 Joe - All the Things Your Man Won't Do 37 Spacehog - In the Meantime 36 R. Blige - Not Gon' Cry 23 Goo Goo Dolls - Name 22 Coolio - 1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin' New) 21 Jann Arden - Insensitive 20 Foo Fighters - Big Me 19 Color Me Badd - The Earth, the Sun, the Rain 18 Natalie Merchant - Wonder [skipped] 17 La Bouche - Sweet Dreams 16 Tina Arena - Chains Extra: Janet Jackson & Luther Vandross - The Best Things in Life Are Free 15 Smashing Pumpkins - 1979 14 Collective Soul - The World I Know 13 Dog's Eye View - Everything Falls Apart 12 La Bouche - Be My Lover 11 Tracy Chapman - Give Me One Reason 10 Hootie & the Blowfish - Old Man and Me (When I Get to Heaven) 09 Everything but the Girl - Missing 08 The BoDeans - Closer to Free 07 Fugees - Killing Me Softly 06 Brandy - Sittin' Up in My Room 05 Gin Blossoms - Follow You Down 04 Tony Rich Project - Nobody Knows 03 Alanis Morissette - Ironic 02 Mariah Carey - Always Be My Baby 01 Celine Dion - Because You Loved Me

I'm gonna guess the missing song @#31 is one of these: Red Hot chilli peppers, "Aeroplane" Voice of the beehive, "Scary kissies" Deep blue somethin, "Halo"
leaning toward the 1st one, as it would of been its 3rd week on the chart. The 3rd song only spent 5 wks in the top50.

This week it was 1992. I think this is the first time since November they've featured an episode from this year (and of course, I was out of the house and wasn't able to catch it >:().
5/23/1992 SS Janet Jackson & Luther Vandross - The Best Things in Life Are Free 40 Mariah Carey - I'll Be There (1) 39 The Outfield - Closer to Me (21) 38 Sir Mix-a-Lot - Baby Got Back (13) 37 Tom Cochrane - Life Is a Highway (5) 36 Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven (3) 35 Color Me Badd - Slow Motion (6) 34 Vanessa Williams - Save the Best for Last (1) 33 Mariah Carey - Make It Happen (1) 32 Linear - TLC (14) 31 Shanice - Silent Prayer (30) 30 Colorhaus - Innocent Child (26) 29 Michael Bolton - Steel Bars (10) 28 Mitch Malloy - Anything at All (25) 27 Rod Stewart - Your Song (25) 26 Wilson Phillips - You Won't See Me Cry (15) 25 Lionel Richie - Do It for Me (10) 24 Jon Secada - Just Another Day (4) 23 The Cure - High (22) 22 Chris Walker - Take Time (13) 21 Bonnie Raitt - Not the Only One (19) 20 TLC - Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg (19) 19 Jody Watley - I'm the One You Need (8) 18 Howard Jones - Lift Me Up (13) 17 Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody (3) 16 Amy Grant - I Will Remember You (9) 15 Genesis - Hold On to My Heart (4) 14 Mr. Big - Just Take My Heart (8) 13 Ugly Kid Joe - Everything About You (10) 12 Celine Dion - If You Asked Me To (2) 11 Prince & the New Power Generation - Money Don't Matter 2Night (6) 10 Def Leppard - Let's Get Rocked (10) 09 Sophie B. Slow Motion, Take Time, and Money Don't Matter Tonight weren't skipped. I was actually in and out throughout the countdown, but I'm 100% sure I heard all three of those songs. I'm guessing that was some bad data on Dogstar Radio (I assume the chart is compiled from there?).

Thanks. Yeah, they basically log whatever is displayed on the receiver. I was skeptical about the Prince and Color Me Badd songs; for some reason, I guess those songs weren't displayed when they were played. Here's the log during the time the show aired. Whoever's transcribing the displays for the countdown needs to be fired. According to him or her, "High" was by Robert Smith, Queen's song was titled "This Is It," and Shanice's song was called "The Words Are Yours."

Rick Dees not on this week (6/14/09) either. I just wrote Sirius XM an email and chewed them out for not broadcasting the show and not telling us why they didn't,etc. Heard someone on another board say that they had cancelled the Weekly Top 40 on the 90s, just like they did on the 80s and Hitlist earlier this year. Hope AT40 isn't next-if that happens then I'll cancel.
Crossing my fingers for Liberty Media to fire Mel and Jon Zellner and somehow try to get XM back to its better days.

I searched last weekend's logs and couldn't find the show on at any time. I doubt a search of this weekend's logs would do any better. If they have shelved it, I hope they replace it with something quickly, which shouldn't be too hard even if it's an in-house program, but ever since the merger you just never know with them.

I don't think there is going to be any replacement an its not coming back either. Its a cost cutting measure @sxm. The 1 year countract w/ Dee's has expired an so thats it.......no more classic Dees on ANY radio. rick.com an ebay will be our only sources now.
I expect AT40 to be next on the chopping block this august.

While there are rumors about Rick Dees being cancelled on SXM 90s, management is still not ready to admit that. I got a reply to my post--all they said was to contact programming department, thus passing the buck to someone else.
With them acting in this manner, it probably would be best for them to go out of business. I've seen posts all over the other boards (there were probably some here too) that AT40 is extremely popular. Assuming that Mel and Zellner still care what the fans want, they would hesitate about cancelling AT40. As far as the WT40, they are probably telling themselves that the shows are available on Rick.com and only the hard core fans, not the average listener, will miss them.

With them acting in this manner, it probably would be best for them to go out of business. LOL... yes I'm sure they'll be going out of business after canceling a show that only appealed to chart geeks. I enjoyed the archived Dees shows but I know I'm in a small minority of the 90's on 9 audience. No one's going to cancel their subscription just because one show isn't on anymore. If anyone does cancel over this, I'd question why they were subscribing in the first place considering the shows are available online. No one subscribes to XM just for Rick Dees.

Actually the shows were not on Rick.com this time last year. They were put there after 80s on 8 cancelled Rick Dees. While Rick Dees being taken off may not upset that many people, we all have to wonder what's next. AT40 being taken off would probably lead to a lot of people unsubscribing, however.

AT40 being taken off would probably lead to a lot of people unsubscribing, however. I really doubt there are people who subscribe to Sirius/XM only for the countdowns. Aren't there stations online that play the countdowns for free? Why would someone pay $13 a month just to hear a 3 hour countown every week?

^^ I am one of those people you describe. I only subscribed to XM because AT40 was coming to it back in Aug '06. I rarely ever listen to XM except for those countdown shows, which were AT40 the 80s, an Dees 80s & 90s. Even now, I rarely even turn on my XM receiver as I usually tape the shows off my SAT receiver now anyway. Since the merger w/ Sirius, they are now available on Dishnet. If AT40 goes, I will likely cancel XM at the end of the year. I'm not that impressed w/ the other content, cept maybe the NFL. Now if they started to stream actual radio stations, specifically Z100, I'd definitly listen a LOT more. There is the quality issue as well, the sound quality is not that good IMO. It almost sounds like an internet stream via a dialup internet connection from circa 1999. Not quite that bad but far from perfect.

Bringing this topic back from the graveyard three years later... This week it was 1994. I thought this would be the week that reflected R&R's shift to PPW tabulation, but I guess Dees shifted to two weeks behind the chart shortly before this episode, so that wouldn't happen until the episode following this one. Actually, Dees never used the oddball chart for the week of April 22 (the week of the switchover). The week before, he did a request special (a repeat of the one he had done back in November of the previous year, only several songs were replaced or rearranged). Then, the week of May 7, he used the April 29 chart, the week after the shift to PPW - the same one used by Casey Kasem that week. I'm assuming that he avoided the April 22 chart to avoid having to call attention to the chart change (of course, he could have done the same as Casey and just not mentioned the previous week's chart positions).

Casey did mention some chart movements, such as "I'll Take You There" moving up 8 notches. But nothing radical, like Celine Dion rebounding 20 spots. I don't think "Found Out About You" was called a re-entry at #17. In fact, in the next few weeks, Casey would mistakenly call them debuts or just "survey song" whenever a song came back onto the chart.

Actually, No. I can listen to Z on my phone now (iheart). I still have XM though but, its because I loaned my tuner to my Dad an he now likes to listen to it so....still paying for XM but not using it. Once a yr it comes in handy on road trips to listen to the NFL. Could watch games on my phone if only cellular reception was good everywhere.
