Rick Dees WT40 to XM 8 & 9!

From the rumor mill, this just in. No press-release has been published but from the lips of the on-air jocks @xm this is sopposed to begin every Saturday starting June 7th.

Heard the promos on 80's on 8 already, so it's definitely going there.

Haven't heard anything about 90's on 9 but that would be pretty cool. What would be cooler is if they could get the old AT40 or Casey's Top 40 shows for 90's on 9.

As I have heard, Premiere doesnt want anyone to know Shadoe Stevens ever existed OR that casey ever did a show for Westwood 1. So I wouldnt hold out much hope. I'm surprised they're doing Rick. It would of been nice compliment last year when they had Ricks regular weekly survey on KIIS XM. Or if they could bring back the regular survey to KIIS XM

It's probably the least revered of the big countdown shows, but I still say it's better than nothing. Cool to relive the 90's countdowns...

...not cool to relive the Dees Sleaze. The celebrity gossip obsession Rick had will make these shows sound extremely dated compared to the AT40/CT40 shows, which have a more timeless quality. Still it'll be cool to hear that same 40 song countdown I listened to 8-18 years ago.

I hope they run a few of the special shows, especially "#2 hits of the 80s" from the weekend of May 7, 1988. I missed a great portion of that one.

I *think* I remmber listening to that show. Or did he do any other #2 hits specials? We likely will hear some specials.

I am envious of the fact that XM might get a somewhat bona fide top 40 flashback for their 90's channel. Since Sirius's 90's channel also doubles as their Hot AC channel, they have a show that simultaneously counts down that channel's weekly top 15 as well as the top 15 from a random 90's year. I mean, it's nice to hear a few songs that they don't often play, but it's weak that they only go down to 15. The best part of flashback countdowns, imo, is hearing those songs in the bottom portions that weren't really big hits or went by the boards over the years.

I hope that after the Bruce Springsteen channel runs its course on channel 10, they'll just move The Pulse there, and make channel 9 an exclusively 90's channel.

Instead of looking for live DJ's, it looks like XM is doing all of its programming acquiring from eBay lately.

Wolfman, Casey, and now Rick reruns? Reruns of AM/FM programming is going to take up a majority of the schedule on the decades channels.

They are all good shows. I personally have collected these national radio shows and had most of the Casey Kasem shows before XM was even in existance. But it's strange that their slogan is "beyond AM, beyond FM" when they use so much of the same programming.

Rick + Casey 80's is 9 hours (out of a 168 hour week). The 90's station only has Rick and is only running him once so that's only 3 hours of a 168 hour week.

I agree with you that 90's needs some personalities, but 80's has always had great DJ's, both live and voicetracked.

Well, the decades channels are obviously heavily dependent on AM/FM radio of the past. Of course, there are many other channels that play music that you've never heard on the radio and never will.

Even the decades programming is much more interesting and deeper than your average AM/FM station. You sort of proved the point... the only other way to hear this programming is on eBay!

Actually, I believe Rick did do another #2 hits special, sometime in early 1993. I only heard part of that one - the song I heard was "Hold On" by Wilson Phillips, which never preaked at #2 anyway. It hit #3 on R&R and #1 on BB.

Yes.. Yesterday the 80's on 8 ran June 7, 1988 and today the 90's on 9 is playing the show from the weekend of June 6, 1992.

Great show today.. While the 1988 show yesterday had most of the same songs as the AT40 80's radio show did this week, the 1992 show was refreshing.. Many lost classics like Amy Grant's "I Will Remember you", The Outfield's "Closer to Me", Colorhaus "Innocent Child", and Howard Jones' "Lift Me Up" The Richard Marx sure shot, "Take this heart" was great to hear too.. Many songs that I haven't heard since they originally were released in 1992.

I was thinking the same thing with the 1992 show. WOW! What a flashback...I can't even remember some of these songs. 1988 didn't have the same wow factor. Maybe, it's because they have been broadcasting 80's flashback shows since December 30/31, 2000 with Casey Kasem.

For those that keeping on saying that Rick is using the same old jokes, listen to all three shows on XM on a given week and state some examples. Rick has changed over the years especially since Casey left the scene in 2004. The 2008 Rick Dees is not the same as the 1988 or 1992 Rick Dees.

XM has you covered for weekend countdowns five shows in two days without any overlap. The funny thing is I already have 95 percent of these shows; however, I will turn on XM to hear them.

I was the early to the mid 90s when all the CHR stations either disappeard or fragmented. And yes, I'm well aware of Rick skipping songs. I used to record the show off-air and I remember the songs he skipped very well cuz I always 're-eddited' the show to include those songs. It would frustrate me even more when he did not even mention said song, he'd just skipped completely over it an play an extra. Usually he would mention said song and just skip it. Mostly they were 'rap' songs as some of the affiliates didn't have any 'rap' in rotation. Sometimes though he would skip songs that would be today considered 'recurrents' (aka: on-their-way-down). Allthough even TODAY he skips songs w/o mentioning it.

He did this a lot, not only from 1992-94, but also from 1998-01 in particular too.. and often, these rap songs would be eliminated from the countdown entirely and the songs below them moved up.

Most of 1995-97 was different, as the chart actually was favoured towards rap songs (this was when he deviated the most from R&R).

I listened a little to the 1992 countdown driving in the car, today. Though, it wasn't bringing back any memories (being born in 1990) it was great to hear the type of music that was out then..the style...etc. And hearing Rick's updates on some artists was soo wierd..like Madonna's new album out later in the fall (which I guess would be Erotica), talking about big hair bands still around (it's hard for ne to imagine being alive when all this was going on, lol )

ANYWAY...I can't wait to hear some of the later 90s charts...so I actually have a "flashback" from it.

LOL! That was my favorite part of the countdown too. I remember reading about those when I was a teenager preteen... never knew anyone who had one. I did want a Minidisc player when I was a kid though.

Today is the show from this weekend in 1993. I recorded it earlier and am listening to it now. So far, it's a great example of why I didn't like the Dees countdown much during that time.

He skipped #40 because it was a song dropping off: Jade - Don't Walk Away
He skipped #39 and just mentioned it was Dr. Dre... didn't even mention the song name, evidently because it was too rap.
He skipped #38, Green Jelly's "Three Little Pigs", probably because it was too rock.

I'm kinda conflicted now. I love the fact that Dees made the countdowns available for XM, but it's so frustrating to hear songs being skipped that I wanted to hear.

As an aside, except for the Dre and Green Jelly songs, it's amazing how AC-based 1993 CHR was. I remember it being a pretty slow chart year and fairly adult-based, but I didn't realize just how much until now.

In just the first hour of the countdown, I've heard "I Have Nothing", "Fields Of Gold", "Can't Help Falling In Love", "I Don't Want To Fight", all AC classics now. There's also been forgotten ballads from Patti Smyth and Jade. The only tempo so far has been En Vogue's "Love Don't Love You" and Spin Doctors' "Two Princes".

I heard the 1997 show recently and it was pretty good.

I'm gonna guess sometime in 1990, no idea what song. I'm pretty sure by 91 they were skipping songs in order to fit on HotAC format stations (or what would evolve into HAC)

Actually what I like about most satellite stations (the music ones of course) is the lack of talking. If I want to hear DJ's I'll listen to my radio, I really could do without any talking between songs unless I am hearing one of the countdowns. I love it when one song flows into the next.
