On 99/7 WDJX Catch of the Day in Louisville, KY (Basically Kiss or Diss Radio One style): 8/3/05 Kelly Clarkson "Because of You" 95% KEEP 5% toss I'm not familiar with Radio One; are those statistics good?

LOL! I thought I was the only one that thought the chorus for "Because Of You" was a bit off. That second line is a mouthful, I laugh everytime I hear it. Verses and vocals are good, but chorus is VERY immature and too damn long! I guess we all know what lines Kelly wrote of the song... It still annoys me to see people critize the lyrics of this song...it really does. Maybe im just being to touchy? But I mean, she wrote it (the whole song, for your info.) about her parents devorcing. Her strongest memory of her father for the past 15 some years of her life, was his back as he walked away from her...so it just rubs me the wrong way to see people calling it immature. Shes not going to change the whole effing song when it means that much to her.. I thought the lyrics were fine. Though I love hearing the backstory to songs like this, it makes the song alot fuller in my opinion..

I hope this reaches no.1 considering BTHE won't be able to do it.

Well, they play a new song going for ads every week night at 10. People can call in to either Keep It or Toss It. If it's kept with over 80%, they will play it again. If not, they won't play it until it's official date. Ballads usually NEVER get Kept. (Ex: Fix You was Tossed with 80%) But, this one was Kept and re-played with 95% of the vote. Hope that helps.

I was at another board, and someone posted this about "Because Of You":
It grew on me, it just doesn't make sense as a radio-friendly song. But, it's picking up a bit.
I replied by saying:
The song hasn't gone for adds yet, which could be why it isn't getting much airplay. It goes for adds in two weeks, so all the spins that it is getting now are just stations that want to play the song early.
Then they replied again:
Negative. Stations can't just PLAY songs early. They have to be authorized. Most of those spins are in separate markets, and not all markets go for adds at the same time.
Then I replied once more:
I'm actually pretty sure they can. Most of Kelly's album has been played on the radio, and stations have spun various live performances, album tracks and unreleased music from various artists. Not all markets go for adds at the same time, but the majority of her play right now is on Pop, where "Because Of You" goes for adds in two weeks. I'll ask someone at Pulse Music Boards, which deals with just radio information.
Can someone clarify this for me?

I actually found your post to be overly insensitive and highly rude.
How is that dramatic or unbelievable? She recently told the story behind Because of You in an article and I found it to be very real and very personal.
Her parents got a divorce when she was 6 years old. Her father helped them move back to TX (they were living in LA) and her last memory was of him leaving the house and walking away from her. They had no money so she didn't travel to see him very often. In fact she said that minus one visit when she was in High School, the next tme she saw him was when she move to LA when she was 19.
The fact that the image of her father walking away from her is the strongest memory she had of him is not something that I find unbelievable or dramatic. Sadly it is probably very common in today's society. I think it is great that Kelly was able to share what she felt when she was dealing with growing up in a broken home. It probably helps some of her younger fans who are going through the same thing just to know that they are not alone in what they are feeling.
I love this song and I hope it is her biggest hit to date.

I also don't really see what's so special about this single. It's okay, but it won't do as well as SUBG and BTHE. It doesn't have that "single material" in it. I don't think it'll make the top 10, imo. But again, with all the "Kelly Hype" this year, it may make the top 10 just becuase it's Kelly Clarkson. Who knows.

I don't know if it will be her biggest on Pop, but AC is a good possibility. Come on, someone other than Mariah will be #1 this year, this is the only song that I've heard recently that sounds like a #1, this is what happens when radio starts playing crappy music, eventually the best goes to the top, this may be one reason why Lifehouse is as high as they are, if radio can't get anything better than generic crap, they will eventually put the songs that are "too good for Pop radio" in high rotation, I see that happening with "Because of You."

I personally think this song will do great. What makes this song so great is that it can be interpreted so many ways. Being the Kelly freak that I am, I always would listen to her CD in front of my friends, and all of them liked this song. Even if it doesn't end up being Top 10 like the other Breakaway singles, it is Kelly's most personal, powerful release yet and shows a side of her most are yet to see.

Her strongest memory of her father for the past 15 some years of her life, was his back as he walked away from her That's overly dramatic and highly unbelievable. Wow, I can sense someone that has never known the pain of a truly broken family before. In America, unfortunately these stories are becoming more and more common and sometimes the kids do not rise above it. Having a mother or father walk out on a kid can be absolutely devastating. As for the song, I love it, but obviously it is not as immediate as her former 2 (or even 3) singles. Will it top SUBG, B, or BTHE? Probably not. But I do hope it performs respectably with a solid top 10 on pop and decent on Hot Ac/Ac along with some good downloads and video airplay.

I've been listening to this one more and more, and I think it can be really big. It should outpeak BTHE on the Hot 100.

IMO if 'My Immortal' did really well, this could too. Yup, if "My Immortal" and "Beautiful" managed to chart so high, why can't this? Not to mention this is better than both "My Immortal" and "Beautiful" IMO.

That's overly dramatic and highly unbelievable. Wow, I can sense someone that has never known the pain of a truly broken family before. In America, unfortunately these stories are becoming more and more common and sometimes the kids do not rise above it. Having a mother or father walk out on a kid can be absolutely devastating. The thing is, when you are a kid things ARE dramatic, little things even. So obviously something like that is going to be an event that shapes a life. Anyone think back to some of the events as a kid that shaped your life and try to tell me that they don't seem like small events if you look at them for what they are. A simple conversation, or one afternoon playing catch with a baseball, or anything that seems small and inconsequential can literally change the entire direction of your life as a kid. So the person that said that initially needs to back up and be realistic themselves. Back on topic: Because of You, I look forward to this run and hope for at least top10, but won't get greedy for much more. Will there be another single after this if this hits top 10? I suppose it depends on how album sales are doing at that point.
