They released the video way too late for this single.
Perhaps they're thinking, if "Rockstar" was able to hang on long enough without a proper video release and only grow in popularity afterward, then there's reason to believe "Gotta Be Somebody" would enjoy the same longevity.
It's a major risk in any case. Should "Gotta Be Somebody" fail to make the Top 10 on the Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart, however, from here on out it can't help but look like a disappointment since all five of the mainstream releases from "All The Right Reasons" out-peaked the LEAD single for the follow-up on that chart and went Top Ten.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

i believe Nickelback will do something about that, they won't let their lead single and a song that its music video just came out to peak that low...i don't know what but i'm sure they will do something

That said, if this album is to be considered a relative success ultimately, it's going to HAVE to best the total sales of "The Long Road" I believe, when all is said and done. And whether Nickelback can pull it off is going to almost entirely depend on how each follow-up single does, and if "I'd Come For You" doesn't outperform "Gotta Be Somebody" on Mainstream Top 40, I can't see the band accomplishing this. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

^Not many artists can do that on the strength of just one single that even underperformed. If they can have just one big "Photograph" or "Far Away" sized hit from the album, it has a good shot at going 4xp.

So much for this era flopping! 2M and counting! This era isn't flopping, but I would dare say it's underperforming. Presently the album is at #53 on the Billboard 200. Not ONCE during the first two years of the chart run for "All The Right Reasons" did the album dip below the Top 50 (or even the Top 30 if my memory serves me correctly). Yet, "Dark Horse" hasn't been out for a year yet and it has already moved beneath the Top 50. This is a true indicator that, even while the band's sales look spectacular compared to virtually every other artist right now, that the Nickelback name is nonetheless finally beginning to show signs of wear. Sincerely, Lisping Hibiscus

True but you have to consider though that the Pop singles from this era have all underperformed compared to the singles from the ATRR era so I think selling 2M is pretty darn good. Now imagine if they actually get a huge Pop single... (not sure that is happening though but you get my point)

Still their best work IMO. The musical productions of legendary music producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange against the straight up Hard Rock in Pop appeal Nickelback has to offer.
I can understand it won't satisfy everybody lyrically as it's a sexual themed record. But that just makes it the lyrical equivalent of 00's Hip Pop, rivaling the genre which is similar themed, but promoted by the industry where Pop Rock isn't. Pop Rock is of course the bigger market. Where Hip Pop fails in one-dimensional sound Pop Rock is able to please. Yet with the media working against it it'll never move its full potential again. Sound-wise this just rocks harder with smarter song productions, being a pleasure to the listening ear. Something music is supposed to do to me, something rarely seen throughout the decade.
So Nickelback turning this direction wasn't welcome with a Pop Rap industry. In their default of promoting Hip Pop to the masses all throughout the decade anything Rock with Pop appeal has automatically been boycotted. As it was neither the Pop Rap, nor the Alternative Rock continuing an evironment where Rap is superior to Rock they wanted to present. So they send for bad press, marketing the band for uncool and limit their sales. Look up the negative reviews the current Top 40 listener echos for an insight on the matter. Considering this fact the album has performed rather well IMO.
Change is long overdue. Hip Pop being forced on American audiences isn't selling no more. It never moved the numbers of the past, but where music statistics show an ever declining sales pattern one has to admit something is seriously wrong. And there is. The industry doesn't sell people's choice. The result? People turning their backs on music in general. IMO.
