The lack of buzz/interest for this is staggering.

I'm going to be picking this up tomorrow based solely on the fact that AI was legendary and KYE is a respectable 1st single. I hope I like!

Fantastic album, but it would've been better if it was cut down to twelve tracks; there's a lot of filler. It's probably my favourite of theirs after Dookie and American Idiot. The early highlights for me are "See The Light", "Restless Heart Syndrome" and "21 Guns".
There were definitely better choices for first single (I'm thinking "East Jesus Nowhere").

Loved "American Idiot" back in '05, so I got this today. It's a great album , everyone should check it out.
I hope it can go 2xplatinum in the US , it would be awesome.

Yeah, I think there is a bit of filler, but the album is still pretty solid.

They have a huge single at the rock formats and they're set to debut at #1 with 250-350k sold in THREE days, so yes, people still like them.

Billboard.com:
ARTIST: GREEN DAY
ALBUM: 21ST CENTURY BREAKDOWN
NEW YORK (Billboard) – Five years after "American Idiot" restored Green Day as a modern-rock powerhouse, the trio returns with an even riskier album. "21st Century Breakdown" mixes the pop-punk charge of the band's "Dookie" days with the political awareness of "Idiot," resulting in an arena-ready record with a sense of purpose. Much of "Breakdown" is as sprawling as its 69-minute length would suggest: Ballads like "21 Guns" build into fiery sing-alongs, while "American Eulogy" uses a song-suite structure to voice social dissatisfaction. Billie Joe Armstrong's lyrics are just as riveting, with images of bleeding hearts, falling towers, endless wars and atom bombs. "Breakdown" offers a harsh reality, but an underlying sense of hope runs throughout, with Armstrong singing, "I just want to see the light/I need to know what's worth the fight." The album is a call to arms for the digital age, and 20 years into its career, Green Day's ambition continues to dazzle.

The album is awesome! I love 21 guns, and Peacemaker. They stand out as good singles to me so far, but there is so much good stuff here.

I've listened through 2.5 times so far but it seems like 21st Century Breakdown, Before the Lobotomy, East Jesus Nowhere, Peacemaker, Murder City, ?Viva la Gloria? & 21 Guns are standouts...not a bad track though. AWESOME album and with 808s & Heartbreak as my favorite albums of the (grammy) year.
Album of the Year nomination? win?

I think this is a great cd. I wasn't sure how it would stack up against AI but I was pleasantly surprised out how good this is. My favorite tracks are Peacemakers, Last Night on Earth and 21 Guns

news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090521/ap_en_mu/us_music_green_day Green Day lashes out at Wal-Mart policy Nekesa Mumbi Moody, Ap Music Writer – Thu May 21 NEW YORK – Green Day has the most popular CD in the country, but you won't be able to find it at your local Wal-Mart. The band says the giant superstore chain refused to stock its latest CD, "21st Century Breakdown," because Wal-Mart wanted the album edited for language and content, and they refused. "Wal-Mart's become the biggest retail outlet in the country, but they won't carry our record because they wanted us to censor it," frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said in a recent interview. While Wal-Mart sells CDs from acts known for raunchy content, including Eminem's latest, they offer customers the "clean" version of those CDs, which are edited for content that may be objectionable. But in Armstrong's view, "There's nothing dirty about our record." "They want artists to censor their records in order to be carried in there," he said. "We just said no. We've never done it before. You feel like you're in 1953 or something." "21st Century Breakdown" contains curses and some references considered adult. Wal-Mart said that it's the company's long-standing policy not to stock any CD with a parental advisory sticker. "As with all music, it is up to the artist or label to decide if they want to market different variations of an album to sell, including a version that would remove a PA rating," Wal-Mart spokeswoman Melissa O'Brien said. "The label and artist in this case have decided not to do so, so we unfortunately can not offer the CD." But guitarist Mike Dirnt said: "As the biggest record store in the America, they should probably have an obligation to sell people the correct art." Not being sold at Wal-Mart didn't stop the band — which kicks off a U.S. tour summer tour in Seattle on July 3 — from landing at the top of the album charts this week. "21st Century Breakdown" sold about 215,000 copies since it's debut on Friday. The album is the follow-up to their multiplatinum, Grammy-winning CD "American Idiot," and like that album, deals with weighty topics. While "American Idiot" spoke to the frustration over the presidency of George W. Bush and the Iraq War, this CD speaks to the loss of innocence and confusion in today's society. While Armstrong, Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool are still top-sellers without Wal-Mart, Armstrong said the store's policy is disappointing, considering it has become the dominant seller of CDs with the decline of traditional music stores. "If you think about bands that are struggling or smaller than Green Day ... to think that to get record your out in places like that, but they won't carry it because of the content and you have to censor yourself," he said. "I mean, what does that say to a young kid whose trying to speak his mind making a record for the first time? It's like a game that you have to play. You have to refuse to play it."

Good for them...the album is phenomenal. What would their first-week sales have looked like if 21CB was available at the Wal?

I think their Walmart ban will hurt them initially, but not in the long run. Meaning that people may not pick up the album in its first week because it's not in their face, but eventually those who are interested will come around and pick it up.
Initially, I don't like it quite as much as American Idiot, but I would put it ahead of Dookie to be my second favorite Green Day album. Initially, I think that "21 Guns" is an obvious standout, as is "East Jesus Nowhere", "?Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl)" and "Peacemaker". It will be interesting to see what songs are released as singles this time around.

I just bought it at Target for $13. I look forward to hearing it, loved American Idiot. There hasn't been much buzz, true, I think that "Know Your Enemy" was not a good lead-off song to go with- think that was the problem.

I think its ridiculous that Wal-Mart banned their album. It probably would have sold double if they didnt.

Hasn't Green Day built up their present reputation from ranting about corporate America and now they are whining about not being stocked at Wal-Mart?!? I can't believe they are issuing statements about how disappointed they are for not being sold there! Really- it's laughable. All that posturing to end up and grovel to them in the press.
The first time I heard American Idiot, I loved it. My first impression of this is - it's kinda awful. It's such a lame rip-off and poor copy of their previous album, it's like a "joke." There's been no progression. "Letterbomb" was my favorite song on "american idiot"- and they put the same backing on two of the songs here- almost verbatim- on "Murder city" and "The Static Age"- I wondered if they even recorded something new- it seemed ripped straight off the other album.
"Restless Heart Syndrome" is the same tune as "Boulevard of Broken Dreams"- blatantly, too- I guess they know they won't sue themselves for plagiarism. But they steal from everyone- it's something else- the tune to "Last Night on Earth" is John Lennon's "Isolation" which just so happens to be the next track after "Working Class Hero" on his album, a tune they just covered, so it can't be a coincidence. "21 Guns" verse music is much like Celine Dion's "A new day has come"- I kid you not- and the chorus is like about 20 ELO tunes. "Little Girl" is the kind of vaudeville McCartney-esque tune that broke up the Beatles. Billie Joe is so enamored of that damn "static-filled" scratchy record gimmick that he does it more than once here when it was already sort of annoying on "American Idiot." And c'mon, "Know Your Enemy' is the Clash, let's just say it and be done with it.
The bubble has burst. "American Idiot" was brilliant- this is disappointing- though I'm sure I will eventually warm to one or two of the songs on it.

It's simply impressive that in 18 songs (17 excluding Song of the Century), I don't skip any. I think I still prefer AI but this is a great album...hopefully it does well come Grammy season. I could see it being nominated for Album of the Year, Best Rock Album, Best Hard Rock Performance (Know Your Enemy), ROTY/SOTY, Rock Vocal Duo Group, Rock Song (21 Guns) and even Short Form Video depending on what they come out with for 21G or any future singles.

I think singles from this album should be...
1. Know Your Enemy 2. 21 Guns 3. Peacemaker 4. Murder City (Last of the American Girls to AAA) 5. Restless Heart Syndrome or Last Night on Earth.

LOL. My roommate's gf said I have no taste in music because I listen to Green Day and Eminem. At least, I don't listen to generic Southern crunk when I f**k. Which, by the way, I posted on FB for all our mutual friends to see and denied her some of my food when she asked for it and told her to get out of my face.
