Can you please explain what an aircheck is? Thanks! All it is, is what song a station plays and when basically.

All it is, is what song a station plays and when basically. An aircheck is actual audio from the station. If you just wanted to know what they played you could use yes.net Note that the airchecks reception posts are from weeks or months ago, not from data acquired that day from yes.net

they do it here in australia as well so they can fit more songs into 1 hour as most station in australia have news on the hour with the music, which is different to most of the American stations i've heard online.

In the 1980's Honolulu had an CHR on the AM dial: KWAI 1080, they speeded up songs except for the Friday night mixshow. KKUA 690 which always used to do it too including Countdown USA. 93.1 KQMQ did it too including their syndicated shows: Rick Dees, Joel Denver's Future Hits, On The Radio with Big Ron O'Brien. 93.9 KIKI known as Hot 1-94 back then did it too including their syndicated shows John Lander's Hit Music USA and AT40. 92.3 known as the short lived KXPW (Power 92X) back then used to do it. They carried John Lander and Scott Shannon's Rockin' America Top 30 Countdown. I remember how speeding up those vinyl records, they were not on CD back then, I could hear the scratches and pops. It really made Casey Kasem sound like a chipmunk! :( As I mentioned earlier, KPMW on Maui is probably the only station that I know of speeding up songs in Hawaii.

Mix 101 (I don't remember their call letters, they never say) does it all the time. They make The Trews sound a little squeaky, although the song DOES sound a little better like that. I figured it was the single version at first, since the other station doesn't play it sped up.
But yeah, it's fun to play mp3s really fast. A Perfect Circle's version of Imagine sounds like a dance song, and the Scissor Sisters sound even more girlish.

WWCK (Flint) plays the version of BOBD that cuts out some of the "I walk alone" 's and shortens the riff at the end. They also play the version of "Obsession" that is sans Baby Bash's rap.

I found it on a site somewhere a while ago. It's quite weird, the mix station is Power 99, and the rock station is Mix 101...

they don't only do it for commercial-time...they do it to add more "pep" to the songs, which I hate.

Wild 94.9 in San Francisco does for some of its songs. Occasionally, if they get enough requests for a new song they have been testing in the mixshows, or they just want to start playing it before it goes for adds, they'll record it from the 12" vinyl and burn it onto a CD and play it that way.
When they used to play dance music out of the mix, many of the tracks were in the special white label mixes they had been playing in the mix. And many of their edits were totally different from the edits that were officially released on the singles.
But for awhile, they started slowing everything down. Slower than even what "normal" is. It was really annoying with some songs. They stopped that. They're back to speeding it up again.

I really didn't like it when they sped up a song by A Perfect Circle. That guy's got that kind of voice that, when sped up, sound really nasally. It was hard to listen to.

When they speed up the songs do they just resample (not preserving tempo or pitch)? So I'm basically asking is the song "sharper" when they speed up songs? There are ways to speed up songs keeping the pitch the same, but usually it doesn't sound great.
I seem to remember a pop radio station in town that plays "One Thing" by Finger Eleven and it always sounded a little sharp and faster to me. Then when I hear it on my Hot AC stations, it sounds "normal."

This has been going on for over THREE DECADES!!!
If you've ever heard Cher's 'Half Breed' @ 47 or 48 rpm, then you know what I mean!!!
Ditto for Elton John's 11-minute epic 'Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding' from his 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' CD in 1973, which sounded quite bizarre @ 36-38 rpm.

I love how this is supposed to fly right over our heads. Most listeners actually don't know the difference.

I think KROCK speeded up "Why Do You Love Me" by Garbage
do rock stations do it too?
I've only noticed it at pop before

One of my local rock stations, WSTZ, is one of the few that do. As far as formats that have a tendency of speeding up songs, it's primarily CHR and country.

KIIS definitely does it. On the whole, I don't mind (except if it's a song that was purposely intended to be slow). Songs like "1,2 Step" by Ciara sound noticeably better sped up.

WHTZ recently stopped doing that. They only seem to do that in the morning now.
Power 105 on the other hand seems to do it all the time.

In the Charlotte area not only does Infinity's CHR/Pop WNKS (Kiss 95.1) speeds up music but so does Clear Channel's CHR/Rhythmic 96.1 The Beat (WIBT FM) and Country 96.9 The Kat (WKKT-FM), also Entercom's Adult Contemporary WSPA (Magic 98.9) out of Greenville/Spartanburg area does speed up quite a few songs but not all.
Infinity's Country station WSOC FM 103.7 use to speed up the music but they dont do it no more when I listen to it they play all songs normally.
