Never said it wasnt a huge accomplishment-but does anyone remember which song of Clay's went to #1? You know, how its a classic and everyone remembers the name and still hears it? Oh wait, we really dont. And I guess Inside Your Heaven is Carrie's biggest hit that everyone still remembers and loves, right? What Jesus song!!!! Pure sales may make a song go to #1, but it does not mean the song is a huge hit-thats just like the Pink fans shrieking about how SG was a huge hit comeback single she is back. No-it just means a lot of people bought her single in one week. Without ANY airplay, is it a massive hit to me? No. Radio IS important...as much as people would like to pretend its not at all (though digital sales have certainly allowed for better bragging rights for big sellers as well as more importance placed on sales)

They might not be remebered as classics but you can't call a #1 song not a big hit. And not every radio smash becomes a classic, anyway... "Laffy Taffy" anyone?! :)

Yes, you can, if it gets that way fueled by a reality television show-I dont consider a song that gets no airplay and gets to #1 because of a competition a huge massive hit. Maybe we will have to agree to disagree. I still think he will have to prove himself with a REAL hit even if this does go to #1.

I agree that just cuz a song hits #1, it's a "big" hit. The idols first singles w/ the exception of AMLT by KC rec'd very little airplay, and debuted high, and fell just as fast down as the sales trickled. Kelly managed 20 weeks w/ her song, but I think Clay was only about 10, Rueben about 8 or less, Fantasia was less than 8, and Carrie was only about 8 or 10. (I'm not sure on these numbers, but just best guesses w/o research). And I also agree with what songs will be remembered as hits? Most likely, the idol will have 2nd and subsequent hits that are much more remembered. I really think Taylor will have trouble getting to #1. Remember, Carrie had the #1 single that week, but only hit #4 on digital. I guess we will see.

This could peak at #2.
Shakira's "Hips" may get in the way.

This could peak at #2. Shakira's "Hips" may get in the way. I dunno, I thought Taylor had this in the bag if Shakira didn't release HDL anytime soon. But then she did! LOL Carrie still managed to get to #1, although I suppose that was because Mariah didn't have great sales. But Taylor could do much better digitally this year. He's already in the Top 20 with his song from the AI compliation. How high did Carrie's song on the AI compilation go?

I remember Carrie's compilation song didn't go as high as Bo's. I don't remember the numbers but he was in the 40s at one point. I think more AI fans are downloading this year - also Carrie's fans really are Wal-Mart shoppers as opposed to downloaders, so she sold a lot that way.

I think you are deliberately misreading my arguments. But if you want to run around exclaiming that Do I Make You Proud is a huge massive hit on the level of the other #1 hits these year and makes Taylor a bonafide star, go ahead. Ill just think you are wrong because of the circumstances of the competition and wait for his first real single :) That will be the real success/proving himself to me.

I don't think we deliberately misreading your typing, LP .... you said "I don't consider a song that gets no airplay and gets to #1 because of a competition a huge massive hit" and I said that a radio hit should not be considered bigger than a hit from a tv show. See the downloads after the performances ... huge sales for the original songs they perform ... see the artists that visit the show ... big increases after the show! And trust me, Taylor is probably more popular the #1 Hot100 artist this week. To say a song with almost 2 million in sales is not a huge hit just because it comes from a tv show and not radio exposure, is it (in my opinion) wrong! Do you remember the song "Video Killed The Radio Star"? ... just replace video with TV and you are right on target, duhlin!

So all the AI singles on Itunes right now, will be able to chart next week.? If so, there is going to be major movements on that chart.
Can someone confirm. It would seem that there would be a bunch of singles by most of the contestants eligible to chart.
I know this is a bit off topic, but I didn't want to start a separate thread.
Thanks.

No, the AI singles aren't on iTunes right now. But the songs from the AI compilation are charting on iTunes. Chris and Taylor's songs are charting kind of high so they will probably debut on the Hot 100. Katherine's and Elliot's arent charting as high, so they probably wont chart or will bubble under. But they will probably chart on the Pop 100 along with any other songs.

Do I Make You Proud = Future Hot 100 #1 single! Which of course doesn't mean a thing... thanks to Billboard's antiquated chart methodology.

Carrie's fans really are Wal-Mart shoppers as opposed to downloaders LMMFAO at Wal-mart shoppers. Bring on the "Wal-Mart presents Carrie Underwood Live" DVD.

What consumers buy doesn't matter!!! What only matters is the opinions of radio programmers who may or may not get a little something something on the side. ;) Oh, and I also forgot, we're supposed to worship a 2nd rate airplay chart, but we only look at spins not impressions!!!! And of course, we hate Hip Hop and R&B and worship Country and HAC!!!!!! I totally forgot John!!!
