I must admit, "9 to 5" is one of those songs that I hate to love, but I love it anyway. This song is a classic all the way.

I remember hearing this on AT20 3 or 4 years ago but they haven't played it recently. Also, I believe it hit #1 on the Hot 100, fell to #2, then reclaimed #1.

I was never crazy about Dolly, but this and Baby I'm Burning were fun dancefloor tunes.
Her one claim to true greatness IMO would have to be her original version of I Will Always Love You, which if I remember correctly was on one of her early 70s albums. She re-recorded it in the 80s and had a major hit, but this newer version was much inferior to her own original. Of course, Whitney Houston did an excellent cover in the early 90s.

The Be-Good Tanyas covered a Polly Darton song on their latest CD 'Chinatown'. I think this is the one!

I love the song (although I don't get to hear it very often)!

Naw, this is a great song, and it of course accompanied the succesful movie of the same name, starring Dolly, Lily Tomlin, and Jane Fonda-- a VERY funny, classic comedy.

When Dolly Parton became a superstar in the late 70's, her music really suffered. Nothing beats her early country and bluegrass music.
This song was good for what it was, a pop ditty, but it's not one of her best. I'm thankful that on her more recent releases she's gone back to her bluegrass roots. Pop-Dolly just doesn't cut it.

I hate this song, but I don't think Dolly was the 70s Shania Twain. IMHO it was Linda Ronstadt who used the West Coast style of laid back rock from the 70s to her advantage.

It's a good song, although the line, "Poor myself a cup of ambition" is kinda lame.
Excellent movie.

I like this song. Though it's not her best (her earlier stuff always will be), it's still fun to listen to.

Not as good as "Islands In The Stream," but still, it's a fine song.

When this song was out, it was during a period of time that R&R and Billboard had not one number one song in common. While songs like "I Love A Rainy Night", "9 To 5", "Rapture" "Keep On Loving You" and "Celebration" topped the Billboard chart, R&R had songs like "Woman" and "The Best Of Times" on top of their chart.

Funny: This is the only Dolly Parton song I know and I think it's pretty mediocre. I wonder whether it would have been such a big hit if it didn't have the accompanying movie.

Thug, I'm sure it's not the only song Dolly wrote that you know. Ever hear Whitney Houston sing "I Will Always Love You?" Dolly wrote that one and had a country chart hit with it in two different time frames before Whitney did her version for the movie "The Bodyguard."

I have the dialogue pretty much memorized to the film.

This is probably my favorite Dolly song. Well, it's not like I've heard tons and tons of her songs, but of those I've heard I like "9 to 5" best. What I've noticed is that, as a songwriter, Dolly usually writes a lot about real, everyday stuff and does it in a great storytelling way. I like that.
The song garnered her an Academy Award nomination and 2 Grammy wins.
Sidenote, I didn't like that movie at all.
