This was the third single from her sophomore self-titled album, also giving her another big hit.
Sheryl (she is, in fact, my relative) has released so many great singles, but I've always found something strangely appealing about this particular single. It is indeed dark, as is her whole second album, but all at once a sexy, confident Sheryl is boldly dripping out couplets with her savoir-faire which has defined her as an artist. Especially how she begins:
"Ten years living in a paper bag Feedback baby heβs a flipped out cat Heβs a platinum canary drinkinβ falstaff beer Mercedes rule and a rented lear"
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

A great song. I love the lyrics and the video too. Sheryl (she is, in fact, my relative) She's related to you!? How?

I LOVE IT. Hey Sparrow, spill the goods on your Sheryl relation! It is quite an exciting story! And, please, take note I am not making this up! :) My first clue came from when I was in sixth grade, around the time Sheryl Crow had emerged on radio, and I had to make a family tree and research of my heritage. On my father's side of the family, I discovered the Crow name was branched to the family name. Secondly, being a fan of her music, I discovered she grew up in Cape Giradeau, Missouri, and the Crow part of my father's family also grew up in Cape Giradeau. Even more coincidental was when I heard an interview from Sheryl Crow in 1998 that the only things she could live on is Falstaff bear (note the lyric in the song! :) ), powdered donuts and Fritos. BOTH my parents and grandparents enjoy all three of those things too. It was that moment it seemed too strange and I decided, "That's it, she has to be related to me!" My grandpa pulled out his photo album, his genealogy chart, and sure enough, she is considered just less of an aunt! According to my grandpa, since Womack is also in my family tree, it is possible country singer Lee Ann Womack is also related to me, though we haven't proven that yet. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

So she's a third cousin or something?
I remember being TOTALLY obsessed with this song when it was first released!

This is more tolerable than "Everyday Is A Winding Road".

This is more tolerable than "Everyday Is A Winding Road". I liked that one too. However, I found "If It Makes You Happy" to be irritating.

One of my favorites from her.
A bit surprised that this only peaked at 12 on Pop, though...

One of my favorites, it's even better live. Awesome video, too.

Weren't there two videos to this song? The black & white one with her throwing the stuff outta the apartment and then the colored version with like everyone playing different roles and stuff.
BTW...I also love this song!

Good song but not her best. Love the keyboard and guitar work in the bridge.
