I still love this. It's probably his best overall studio vocal performance ever. It was ridiculous how this man effortlessly jumped from soprano mode to deep baritone/bass mode within seconds.
I really dislike the version that ended up on "The Gold Experience" it was overproduced fluff. The original version/mix is superior in every way.

I still like it. I didn't know it was by Prince when it was out. The song is very summery.

Eh, it's alright. This song is surprisingly one of his well-known songs today.

Back when ringtones were still a thing, I had this as mine. I laughed at my mom realizing it weeks after the fact and saying in slow realization, "That's vain...that's really vain. Wow."

Love. Such a classic. I was in college in Minneapolis when this hit was all over the radio. Memories. Sadly it's not on iTunes to see how much love it would get.

I always liked this. Probably because it was out just as I was getting into music, but it always takes me back to the summer of 1994. Classic!

I think it's a bit underrated.
It doesn't rock like some of his other stuff, but then again it doesn't need to. It's just a beautiful love song.

This is actually my favorite Prince song. Probably because it's his only "smash" that I can remember being all over the radio, even though I was young enough that it still feels vague.
If I'm not mistaken, this was his only Top 5 (Top 10?) hit during the "Artist Formerly Known As" days.. as well as his last ever Hot 100 Top 10 (well, until he re-enters this week with a song or two that have already peaked there in the past).

This was the only Prince song I used to hear on the radio when I was younger and it was the first Prince song I've ever known. I actually was surprised when I first learned that this wasn't his biggest hit.

I hated this song when I was younger, likely do to overplay on B96 and WGCI. Now I don't mind it at all. Also, I prefer Prince's 80s material.

Def not among his best, but it worked for 1994 and was a pleasant listen.

I didn't like the way that it leapfrogged over Mariah Carey's "Without You", preventing her from extending her streak to eleven. But ten's a good round number and besides, Mariah's streak would have ended with her next single. Actually, he played no part in costing her #1. The week before he hit #1, she lost #2 to All-4-One's "So Much in Love". On what chart are you two talking about?

Also I donβt think either of these posters are still active here.

Was the R&R chart spin based? In terms of Billboard's Top 40 Monitor and Hot 100 Airplay charts, "Without You" peaked at #2 behind "The Sign." "The Most Beautiful Girl" wasn't direct competition for "Without You," but R&R might be a different story.

Yeah, this song is fine. It does get shadowed by stronger material of his, but I wouldn't change the channel/station if this came on.

You can really tell he was in love around this time. Mayte got him singing these sentimental songs like this one and "Betcha By Golly Wow". π€£π€£
