This is like one of the most creative songs ever made. And to think it was made by a rock band and I DO NOT like rock, but I LOVVVVEEE this song. Its just so good. ITs genius.

It's a classic, but it's also very easy to make a mockery of!

Anyone preferring the Braids 1996 version than Queen hasn't been doing too much homework on this original (just kidding!!). But seriously, it's a great piece of "rock opera" as I have ever head. I remember watching the video version of this song on American Bandstand back around 6 B.M.T.V. (6 years before MTV!) around late 1975 (also was carried over in 1976 and charted and then when "Wayne's World" came into the picture, it was re-issued back in 1991/1992). Great song, though.

The strange thing about this song is that it's debatable in which release of the song was it "a bigger song".
In 1976, the song peaked at number eight. In 1992, it was re-released and peaked at number three. With that information alone, one would think that it was a bigger song in 1992.
Ah, but when you take "weeks on chart" into consideration, you might want to think again.
In 1976, even though the song didn't make the Top Five, it managed to spend 21 weeks on the chart, which was unusually long for any song at the time, let alone a non-top five song. In 1992, however, it experienced a fast-rise, fast fall and spent only nine weeks on the chart which, on the other hand, was an unusually short term for a Top Three record.
So what do you think, was its 1976 release more successful, since it spent so long on the chart (and wound up in the Top 20 on the year end chart) or was it more successful in 1992 because it peaked higher (even though it didn't come anywhere near the upper half of the chart)?
Personally, I'd say its 1976 chart run was bigger.

:o
Is that a record for the Pre-PPW Era? The only song I could think of that reached 20 weeks before 1994 was "Two Princes" by the Spin Doctors.
Another interesting piece of trivia to add is that in 1993, their song "Somebody to Love", originally from 1976/1977 (debuted in December 76 and carried into 77), was re-released. The second time around, it featured George Michael. It peaked at #15 and spent 7 weeks on the chart the first time. The second time, it peaked at #11 and its run was only one week longer than the first.[/font]

Love this song. Freddie has such a great, unique voice! I agree. Freddie had one of the best male voices ever, IMO.

Don't forget "Don't Walk Away" by Jade, which, I believe, was in its 20th week the same week as "Two Princes". Also, "Love Is" by Vanessa Williams with Brian McKnight spent 20 weeks on the chart. There was one song in 1994, but before the PPW era started - "Breathe Again" by Toni Braxton. To answer your question, the longest charting song in a single chart run was "Love Will Keep Us Together" by The Captain & Tennille. In 1975, that song spent 22 weeks on the chart. So the 21-week tenure of "Bohemian Rhapsody" fell just short of the Pre-PPW era record, though it is the longest run for a song that did not go to number one. BTW, if my memory serves me correctly, there is actually one more song that spent 20 weeks on the chart before April, 1994. In 1977, Andy Gibb reached that milestone with his megahit "I Just Want To Be Your Everything".

Bohemain Rhaposdy went to #9 on Billboard in 1976 and #2 when it was re-released in 1992 but it #1 in its 2 chart runs in the UK in 1975 and 1991

I like the concept & structure of the song, but as a whole, I don't find it to be entertaining.

Agree with all the praise. This is a stellar song.
It's been 25 years now since it saw it's resurgence due to the success of Wayne's World.

This feels like most people's favorite song to me. That's why even though I technically think it really is very good, I have a hard time listening to it. The overplay does not help.

I’ve heard this song probably more than any other in my life (“Billie Jean” as well) and I still love it. Classic.

It may be one of Queen's most creative and signature songs but I don't like due to overplay. As a kid, I heard this song alot on B96 (a Rhythmic Top 40 station known for playing mostly dance music back then) and was probably played on defunct classic rock WCKG 105.9 and defunct rock 97.7 the Loop. Of course many Top 40 stations (mainly on the Mainstream side or most Rhythmic stations avoided it) played this song due the success of "Wayne's World" and the then-recent death of Freddie Mercury. I can tolerate this song once in a while.

Rick Beato gives this the "What Makes This Song Great" treatment. Includes an incredible interview with Brian May as part of the breakdown. Brian sheds some interesting stories on the recording and behind the scenes construction of the song.
