don't ask me why, but this song has been coming back in my head of late... the song was/is sensational!
The song finished at #16 for the year 1990, and peaked at #2 on Billboards, #3 on R&R. In Canada the song spent 2 weeks at #1 in sales, while it peaked at #2 in Airplay...
what do you guys think of the song?

I thought it was quite good. I still hear it occasionally to this day.

Yeah, I really liked this song when it first came out. The lead vocals are really good.

This song was originally written for Don Henley. For some reason, I don't think his version would have been as good as Heart's.

Me either. I have an allergic reaction to Don Henley's solo material.

This song raised a few eyebrows when it first came out. It was about a girl who uses a strange guy to have a baby because her man can't give her one (don't know whether it's impotence or fear of sex or what). And she leaves the guy a note saying not to try and find her. Well, I'd want to, in case one or the other has a STD or something!

I like it but it's far from my favourite from them. I love 'These Dreams' and 'Stranded' more.

One of my two favorite Heart songs.

I'm from the old school Heart, where we debated whether "Crazy On You" or "Magic Man" or "Barracuda" was a better song. I did like a few of the pop hits they had in the mid 80s, especially my honey Nancy's vocal performance on "These Dreams."
I didn't know that the idea behind the song was that her husband couldn't give her a child, I always thought she had had a one nite stand.

I always thought it was a simple one nite stand for pleasure because of her saying, words to the effect of, 'he brought the woman out in me' and just assumed thats what it was about, but upon further review (the play still stands, ooops, that's football talk) I read the lyrics and the line 'i am the flower, you are the seed' (or thereabouts) pretty much seals the deal for me! I'm convinced.

Yeah, I remember Casey saying something about that.
I liked their follow-up better, "I Didn't Want To Need You." I think it peaked at #23 in both BB and R&R.

Please, please understand I'm in love with another man and what he couldn't give me, oh was the one little thing that you can... There's also another line that says something about him seeing "his own eyes". I took that to mean the baby has his eyes.Β I seem to remember Rick Dees pointing that out on his show when the song was out.

I could not imagine Don Henley singing this song. Of course, the lyrics would have to be rearranged.

I could not imagine Don Henley singing this song. Of course, the lyrics would have to be rearranged. Yeah, in which case, it would involve a surrogate mother (and him actually doing her instead of him whacking into a jar).
